Kotaku: Gamestop has sold out preorder deluxe Wii U stock nationwide

Guys does Best Buy ship items all together in one shipment ??

I'm asking cuz I'll be using a carrier service and they charge per item/per pound so it would be cheaper if they sipped it all at once :/

I'm getting a deluxe WiiU with 7 launch games plus 2 pro controllers.

The initial shipment of the first new home console in six years has sold out?

oh shi-

c'mon please restock soon, history is starting to repeat itself.

This has happened in pretty much every major console launch in about a decade. I went through this with the PS3 launch when gamestop oversold alot of pre-orders(ended up not getting one). Hope it works out for you all.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I don't remember PS2 having preorders.
Looks like Nintendo will win this generation a second time.

What you did, I have seen it.

And they keep repeating this shit every time they roll out their new products. The Wii U didn't have the immense hype that the PS2 had, and yet they sell out their presells in a single day. Fuck these people! You can't tell me that they weren't aware of the shortages when they released the current gen hardware 6 years ago? There's precedent, so there's no reason why they couldn't take steps to avoid the shortages. MS and Sony are going to pull this shit next year. Mark my word.

It's really frustrating that they do this each and every time they release new consoles. And the irony is, rarely are there any amazing games in the first holiday season that new systems are released.

I think the SNES was the last system where you had a generous list of games released in the first 3 months. Players could buy, F-Zero, Castlevania 4, Final Fantasy 2, Actraiser, UN Squadron, etc.

Resistence was Sony's killer app title at launch date. Everything else was basically HD versions of existing titles on the then current gen systems.

People are also underestimating the amount of people buying this to resell it at a higher price.

Yep. Be prepared to see it on eBay for $500 - $700. It's what scalpers do unfortunately. I hope they don't the Wii all over again and can't buy it for months and months. I don't want one now, not until a Zelda is on it. That's when I bought the Wii, for Twilight Princess.

Guys, guys ... what if Pachter is right?

He said it would fail and than again it would sell out.. He covered his ass on both sides how could he not be right??

Honestly this was expected but not this fast... Nintendo has always undersold initial consoles as it is a great hype machine and makes it "exclusive" and everyone tries to be one of the exclusive people to get one..

That said it's the first home console launch in like 7 years and everyone is excited.. No chance you will grab on at stores before mid/late December.

Im almost 90% sure not one soccer mom has a preorder. It's mostly hardcore Nintendo fans, and scalpers hoping to rape you for Christmas.

PS got mine 2 hours after Gamestop opened the day of announcement. They said they had like 30-50 per store coming.

HOLY SHIT! Glad I went to Gamestop yesterday to pre-order.

The rep said that they sold 200 deluxe in our area which includes 14 stores. That was at about 11:30 AM yesterday.

3DS was a $250 hand held with an identity crisis while the Vita was almost always anonymous.

Wii U will sell well at launch, it's the months after that I'm personally concerned about.
Why is it always Nintendo that people are concerned about? especially when it has been whopping competition's asses for 8 years now.

what was the preorder status for the 3DS? i felt like such a fool calling on launch day if the had one where there where 300 units just laying around.

Yea, me to. Am intrigued to see how it handles its first drought of games post launch. Every system has one, and this will be going up against some great Q1 competition.

I just need to know when monolithsoft's next game is comin, and then I'll be there.

Should I be worried if I pre-ordered as GS they might not be able to cover even whatever pre-orders they did take? Didn't preorder til yesterday.

Oh well, there is still ToysRUS in-store preorders whenever they start. I think they were late starting for Wii but had a ton of systems to sell at launch. Maybe I'll try to get one there.

I didn't really want to get one at launch anyway. I just hope it doesn't turn out like last time. I'll probably get one the first half of next year. I just don't want to have to go hunting it down like a dog as with the Wii.

Where are you getting that from? You should be fine with your pre-order from GS.

It's the years afterwards, but, after hearing parity+ from ShockingAlberto in regards to Japanese support, the final years of Wii U should turn out way better than Wii.

It's not Nintendo as a business I am worried about, they're fine. It's whether Nintendo are reading the market correctly with the Wii U

Tell me about. I was literally stalking trucks as they got to various stores to find one. lol

While there are multiple people surely trying to flip this system for a profit, the Wii has a huge user base and it would not surprise me if they sold a crap load of systems again.

I tried to pre order Wii U at my local electronics store (Saturn in Germany). They said they won´t do pre orders because with he Wii the only got half of what they were told so they couldn´t deliver every pre order on launchday.

You can pre order the basic pack on their website though...

360 or xbox launch (can't really remember) my friend had to wait for other shipments because they oversold preorders. Since then I wonder if they have a clue how much of a product they can get when they are taking your money. The ones around here only get enough games to cover pre-orders and gut a a copy for the walls right now too (games like NSMB2), so they kind of scare me is all (yes, I mainly shop there for used so this stuff doesn't bother me usually).

I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, but that experience was my only one with GS and system launches. This is my first time using them for one.

The more surprising thing to me is how many people apparently even know this system exists. Nintendo's advertising outside of a few talk show appearances has been kind of non existent.

I imagine you should be fine. I don't think they took too many pre-orders overall. This is probably just the first wave and you're in it. :)

Hmm, time to head to GS to preorder one. Luckily im pretty good with the guys there. Hopefully they still have some left available to preorder.

I knew the system was going to sell, but i was not expecting this fast either.

Glad I preordered mine just a few hours after the conference ended. I was Deluxe SKU number two for my closest store in Columbus, Ohio.

64 days. :(

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Surely they aren't sold out on pre-orders in every store in every state in the entire United States unless there were only 2-3 capacity per store, most stores that'd all be taken by employees.
Are we sure this isn't technically talking about Gamestop.com (US)?

This isn't a hot product in the eye of the public yet, if it was I could see it selling out on pre-orders, but that's not the case. The people who jumped at preordering as soon as it was announced are not the masses. This is not PS2 level demand (yet). Many haven't even heard the words "Wii U" yet.
Anyway, the number must be really small per-store and taken minute-one by employees in most stores.
I'd be interested in hearing the official preorder capacity per-store so far.

And the chances of in-store preorders opening up again are...?

WiiU obviously isn't a hot item in the public's eyes because they (mostly) don't even know about it yet. When the actual advertisment campaign starts, that is when you will hear the general public talking about it, same thing happened to Kinect (though I doubt Nintendo will go forth with a half billion ad campaign, but you never know).

I imagine preorders will reopen around the time that campaign starts, and/or when Nintendo gets a better understand of how many WiiU they are going to actually have.

For those looking at the Best Buy alternative, you can go to the product page for the Deluxe and add it to your cart, choose "pick up in store" method, and from there you can then check your local best buy's availability. I thought all hope was lost when I heard Amazon wasn't listening the Wii U and GameStop already sold out of pre-orders, but after checking my local Best Buy's I have about 6 different stores still offering pre-orders.

After learning that GS sold out of preorders I looked at Best Buy. I was logged in on PayPal and only one click away from preordering when I immediately restrained my right hand from pressing the left button.

I decided to wait for Newegg to put their preorder up since it's my last hope for a tax-free purchase.

But but.... it releases on a Sunday. Surely you won't be able to resist waiting that extra day or 2 for the system to ship.

:)

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I was planning on paying for my pre-order today since I was already going up there for a StreetPass MeetUp.

This is BS! They didn't even formally announce it was up for reservation WTF. I hope here where I'm from PR I still can get my pre-order.

edit:OK I called,no BS WTF. They had about 20 deluxe editions only. How did this happen so fast. Not even an e-mail from GS saying I could go to reserve it....
