Is each new release thread going to be like this now? Though the point on DLC content someone raised does lead to some interesting questions...

The CPU is the limiting factor, and by some accounts, the Wii U's is even worse than the 360's, let alone Orbis/Durango.

Remember most of those earlier claims of Wii U CPU inferiority were due to unoptimised code. IdeaMan has stated that of the 3 developers he knows developing for Wii U that none of them have mentioned any CPU issues.

This doesn't mean it will be as powerful as the 720/PS4 of course, but even those are looking to be "just enough". It would really surprise me if R* pushed a title so much that they needed all that CPU.

While IdeaMan might have said that, others on NeoGAF have clearly stated that the Wii U is weaker in some aspects than the PS3 as well as 360: I remember quite a few posts by Arkham to that effect (but the community shouted him down, obviously).

So far, we don't know whether a Wii U-version of GTA 5 is in the cards. Take 2/Rockstar are going to observe the market diligently and adjust their plans accordingly - there's quite a bit of time left until the game releases.

This is so early on that is is laughable to bring this up as a point of weakness right now, how did we get to this? GTA V is beyond the tech of AC3 and COD Blobs2 so it does not fit on Wii U?

Yes, obviously what he (and another developer just a few weeks ago) said doesn't matter, because it won't fit the Wii U's fan-narrative (I have the console on pre-order, BTW - but I don't see the need to put on blinders and only accept positive news on the device). I don't believe that GTA 5 wouldn't be possible on Wii U (there's no indication to that effect) and I don't care about that discussion, I was just reacting to the message at hand.

Whether a Wii U edition is in the cards will likely depend on whether the console has a successful launch or not.

At this point if Reggie manages to pull GTA V out of his ass I'm just going to sit back with some coffee and scroll through the threads.

This is Rockstar's decision making excuses of why they did or did not, should or should not is just pointless fan boy chatter.

For now I'm gone.

Ideaman confirmed Arkham's points I thought, there were a lot of headaches in the early goings with the CPU structure and it definitely wasn't playing nice with brute force code porting early on. It'd be nice if we could get an update from Arkham to see how things progressed and if they improved as dramatically for the team he was in contact with compared to the 3 teams Ideaman was.

So much this. This is what I'm talking about when I say people give Nintendo too much credit saying they expected them to pursue a Wii U port. Who would be telling Nintendo to do that? The figureheads of their western branches. Who does Nintendo not listen to? The figureheads of their western branches.

Well they went out and secured a number of the other mega selling franchises: COD, Skylanders, Madden/Fifa and Assassins Creed. I don't see why GTA would be out of the question.

I don't think it's worth discussing too much, we never know how these things happen behind the scenes. I guess it's just a bit disappointing for Nintendo console owners. I don't recite too many examples of 360 missing out on major 3rd party games, and it was one of the reasons that Microsoft took so much of the market from Sony. If Nintendo is serious about taking that chunk of the hardcore market, they really shouldn't be missing the mega franchises (like GTA).

Then again, if Nintendo did approach Rockstar about a GTAV port, it wouldn't have been leaked like this. Most of the advertising for games don't even have a WiiU logo on it. If It's coming to WiiU, it's probably going to get it's own announcement and separate advertising (as we've seen with AC3).

Regardless, I'm pumped for GTAV and will be picking it up on PS3.

I don't think Nintendo is serious about taking a big chunk (if any chunk at all) of the hardcore market.
Why not? Nintendo was the first company that suffered from focusing too much on the casual market. It would make sense to reconnect with the enthusiast gamers.
Btw there is no more hardcore players than kids.

AND btw the first UK advert clearly focuses on gaming for gamers... with hot girlfriends who want to watch TV.

We have yet to see if the money bags for games extends past Japan.

To be honest I think a Saints Row would fit better on a Nintendo console than a overdramatic gta.
Just imagine.
Interactive maps. You see a map with some places to go just tap and voila! Route set.
The gamepad could work as the perfect mock up phone.
The gamepad screen could show relevant events for the missions we are doing.
Perfect mission and menu browsing.

That stuff would all work just as well for GTA V.

Thread about GTA V's likely, anticipated release date on already confirmed platforms.

Somehow turns into another circular thread about Wii U, CPU power, and Nintendo's behaviour towards third parties.

This wont be happening in the Game Informer thread.

All I'll say on the Wii U matter is I'm pretty sick to death of the endless port begging for every fucking game. It's like you people were asleep at the wheel for the last 15 years of Nintendo consoles.

MS have more money now to offer. So sadly they might get it again.

Maybe not. I remember Rockstar saying they didn't sell as well as they were expecting, probably because it took them so goddamn long to get it out. But in that case MS may not pay that ridiculous amount for exclusive access again. They likely won't even have to in order to get the majority of sales.

With the way things are going I can see LA Noire style different bonus missions being offered or maybe even timed exclusive MP DLC.

At that point it would depend on which company wants to splash the cash.

Sony did for AC3 I wonder how much they paid for those 4 extra missons

The 360 will be almost obsolete by the time GTA 5 releases. I think neither Sony nor Microsoft are going to be interested in spending huge sums on DLC exclusivity for their outgoing consoles.

Why is WiiU even being brought up, if it were announced for it we'd know about it ...

Anyway, another game for Q1/Q2 next year, absoloutely crazy.

Well, Nirolak said platform talk was cool here. We already had our warning about what not to bring up in the GI thread. >_>

Spec talk shouldn't be here, and we've tried to avoid it TBH. But the OP said it was OK to have Wii U related discussions wrt this title.

I would love to see an additional Free-Roam mode where you can choose your char and have to get a certain amount of money (1 Billion $) before every other (computer controlled) character. You can do this by either legal or illegal stuff.

/dream

Microsoft will have an exclusive "super hd" version on their next console, bundled with all the dlc. I'd almost bet my house on this.

Sounds reasonable

I could see something like that happening RDR had a MP progression system that made players have to do certain things so they could rank up like the gang hideout missions or co-op missons.

I hope they build on that for GTAV I guess it's all about linking your activities together in a better way than GTA:IV whose MP modes were all separated and so some modes died a death quite quickly.

I would imagine staging it like RDR as an open world lobby system would solve a lot of those problems.

Also gangs will play a bigger part in the MP modes I think that has really helped make MP3 MP a lot more fun with clans and I can only see that being even better with GTAV.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the environments and hearing about how they plan to make the MP even better.
Same here man. The MP has so many possibilities with the possibly more expansive environment...fuckin' a.

That picture of the dirt bike race in the countryside alone got me so hyped. Hopefully you can spend hours just fooling around in online free roam without even touching the city.

Red Dead's online was fun because of that. Not that I didn't also enjoy GTA IV online, but the expansiveness of Red Dead's environment with the animals and whatnot made free roam more unpredictable than GTA IV's.

Of course they are right, because it's fucking obvious.

O fucking K. Apparently I didn´t fucking get it and so fucking did a lot of fucking other people here. We´ve been fucking speculating for half a fucking dozen pages now.

I personally don't really care about GTAV but I'm not blind.. it definitely would be a great business move for both Rockstar and Nintendo to get it running on Wii U.
I mean, it only means quick cash for Rockstar and a title like GTA could do wonders to Nintendo's actual image towards this whole hardcore gamers/casual guys/Nintendo consoles are for kids discussion.

Surprising because GTA 4 dlc is still in my opinion the best in terms of value. I loved those dlc packs and didnt feel ripped off from my purchase
