Would you guys have any of your hip-hop top 10 on your list for all genres of music?

Considering I basically only listen to alt rock/singer-songwriter stuff and rap heavy enough to have a top 10 from them, yeah.

Hell, my list would probably have 2 Counting Crows albums, 7 rap albums and a Third Eye Blind album, depending on my mood at the time.

Who are the ol school reaggaeton artists? I never really cared for it and was introduced to it when Nore made it big.

Might want to edit out the Dalek album for some other unassailable pick, like you did with Curren$y.

I did it because I ultimately like DC better, I would be fine with putting OG pilot talk there and I'll straight up say Curren$y is in my top 10 favorite rappers all time. Dalek album is incredible too, probably the best experimental hip hop ever besides The Cold Vein maybe

but of course

Why would people be mad that one of your favorite rappers is boring?

Okay, I've listened to all of them. Including Rakim y Ken-Y to name another.

So weird that they're considered ol school reaggaeton. Always thought there were others before them.

It's not reaggaeton but this has always been one of my favorite things with Don Omar.

Of course there were artist before them but that era seems to be considered the golden era of reggaeton

Sadly I am fairly limited to the PR it seems and would love to hear artist from other regions

I might actually try and sleep listening to currensy , he bores me so much I zone out sometimes and forget what I'm doing. My head just goes completely blank. It's like I'm concentrating so much on listening to his song but nothing happens.

I do like Currensy. I really do. But I just can't bring myself to play him on my iPhone. If he plays on shuffle then so be it.. But other than that. Nothing.

Curren$y is that atmosphere music. You listen to that shit when you're working on a paper or you're on a long drive and you just want some wall of sound to chill out to. Or when you're in bed trying to figure some shit out after a long day. It's not really supposed to hype you up or be thought provoking lyrically or any of that. Its that contemplation shit. Its pretty much just some stream of consciousness shit talking over some laid-back production. Like the opposite of rappity rap. Nobody said it was for everybody. Some people are always trying to party, or go hard, or work super fucking hard.... or feel the need to glean meaning from music like nuggets. Curren$y's not for you. on the low his music is like drone or ambient rap.

I'm only familiar with Reggaeton from Puerto Rico. I do listen to music from Mexico (obviously) but other than that I haven't really messed with music from other Latin countries.

Heard DR and Columbia had some good acts

Top Ten

Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons...
Kanye West - College Dropout
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, mAAd City
Eminem - The Slim Shady LP
Tupac - Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.Z.
The Roots - Game Theory
Nas - Illmatic
Busta Rhymes - Big Bang
Notorious BIG - Ready to Die

There are a ton I left off, mostly DMX albums, Jay albums and Cube all of who had a major impact on what I like, but most of those albums had a ton of skippable. I place a premium on cohesive albums. Jay's Reasonable doubt is the strongest one left off, and depending on the day that may be on here. Brooklyn's Finest to 22 Two's is one of the best stretches of song in rap history.

Really hard to knock it down to ten.

I purposefully left off atmosphere albums too free up room, otherwise when life gives toy lemons and god loves ugly would both take up a spot. And maybe strickly leakage and sevens travels as well.

DR has bachata which is what I posted earlier so I guess I have listened to something from DR even though Aventura is from NY.

Only artists I've listened to from Columbia is Shakira and Juanes. Juanes is pretty good if Latin rock/pop is your thing.

The entire album was basically a roadmap of my life, from the drunk waking up in strange towns beginning to the getting addicted to fucked up women to trailer trash angst of Guarantees. Shit is special to me. Strictly Leakage was basically the B-side to Lemons and was really good, too.

I'd definitely have a few rap albums on my overall top 10, but I'd have to drop some as well.

I'm a bit sad that Madvillainy is so low on the list. It's my favourite album :I
I was ready to put that on mine. Don't know why I didn't. Could easily slot that over a few on a different day.

Hope the next Madvillain album is good if it ever comes out (right before Swift & Changeable apparently :lol)

I feel the exact same way, and it came out just as my life was hitting that "wreckless adult man child" phase where all the stupid shit I did when I was younger began to happen again with drugs, booze, and shitty women. It just fit perfectly with what was going on around me. It's my number 1 quite honestly, and I have put it there many times in the past. But I figured I'd let the champs take a breather so some other albums could have a moment to shine.
