This baffles me. RAM is cheap as shit these days. It's the brand new, not yet released $300 video card that nobody's used in the wild yet that seems unrealistic about these specifications.

Oh, and while we're at it, 640GB hard drives are also about $40 these days.

and you do realise that card isnt that expensive to make right, it probs cost around $150 to make if that. just look at the new iphone it costed apple around $170 to make yet they charge like $600 or so to buy

Don't shoot me down for this question, I don't much have knowledge about specs: I see everyone here very positive, can we expect a Xbox > Xbox 360 jump in power again (which was 8x?) if recent leaks/rumors would be true?

1. Slapping in cheap RAM means have fun enjoying a slow 4+ year old tech.
2. Slapping in cheap HDD means have fun at 5400RPM and watching it die after a few years.

Well the AMD 8xxx series are going to be rebadged 7xxx series cards now. Was he aware of this when he leaked these specs or was he using "8xxx" as a generic term for mid-range Sea Islands?

It doesn't cost $150 to make, it costs $150 at retail. (The 7850 that is, but that's the *850 pricepoint)

We don't know if a rebranded chip is used. Rebranding makes sense for the market, but not for use in a console.

only the OEM cards.

Why? This is mid range PC type of specs nothing out of this world. 8 tiny CPUs combined with a midrange GPU which a 88xx would be. The high end will be 89xxx. This is what I expected but will disappoint a lot here hoping to get a high end PC specs for 399.99 dollars.
$399-499 is the highest they can go unless they go with the Xbox live $199 + 2 year subscription model.

The specs have nothing to do with retail PC parts. Everything is custom and they aren't buying chips from AMD. They're buying bluprints with the right to manufacture where they see fit. Big chip, bad yeilds, ram chips, complex mobo, packaging, assembly, royalties for tech, etc will cause a price to sky rocket.

The specs sound sick if true. An 8800 would straight up beast. CPU should be decent for gaming as well. Physics and lighting are being done on the gpu now next Gen, that frees up the CPU for other tasks like improving AI and all that other crap that CPUs do.
We will see a major jump in fidelity. Unlike at the start of last Gen, we actually have game engines ready for the new hardware and they've been ready for years.

May have to just bite day one with these potential specs MS. Bring on full BC and that better include all my XBLA.

Considering they are being rebranded, how does it make sense that MS or Sony is releasing with a GPU based mostly on a mid level card released in the 1st half of 2013?

Doesn't make much sense, and history doesn't support it.

guess how many teraflops in the GPU jar and win nothing at all:
i'll go for 2.5

Well...

If you have your own support for real-time lighting like Doom 3 had, then all of your areas that are directly hit by light are bright, and all of the areas that aren't directly hit by light are completely black. So you need real-time indirect lighting, which means calculating two bounces of light on them, and so on, which really is only becoming possible now with today's GPUs, that are 2.3 to 2-and-a-half teraflops.

wouldnt the FM xbox 1 --> xbox 360 comparisons be better served using FM1 to .... FM4 (or 2 or 3) rather then the 30fps horizon anyways?

EDIT: thread moved on without me

You have one point of reference for history. Only the last gen used anything remotely close to desktop gpu. This was when the highest cards were pulling less the 100w. We now have cards and card set ups pulling huuge amounts power compared to that. This card and those at its level is the most amount of power you want in closed device with shitty cooling.

nope.
i7 are 4.5ghz with 8 threads. This guy is 8 ish threads (some maybe os only) at waaaay less speed.

But backed with probably 2-10x the system bandwidth potentially more depending on how they configure everything

And if its amd doing the CPU and GPU... There's likely going to be a lot of special adjustments between the two

You make me feel old, but the Xbox 1 GPU was a custom design based on Geforce 3 tech.

Man those were the days, Geforce 3 was the shit.

Gotcha. So there could be 6GB in the final for all we know. 8GB would be fantastic I must say though.

The idea behind doubling RAM in a devkit was so debug tools could run and it's easier to have unoptimized games on the system.

However, debug tools don't take exponentially more space to the point where you would need 8 GB of debug tool overhead, and 8 GB is already a lot of space to work with for a game in general.

lol 8800 graphics? That's pretty awful. I mean I had a 8800GTX and it was a good card for when I bought it (years ago). But it would never be able to run games at a high level.

Also is that BD guy telling the leaker that he's reporting him to MS?

You know what I really want for this gen on the Xbox? The ability to install all games to my hard drive and not require a DVD/BD in the drive.

lol just get a pc brah

yeah I went back to play Halo 3 (no install) the other night and all I could hear was the disc spinning. I still hear it with installed games but nothing like that.

how did we used to put up with that?

Will only happen when you attach your copy of a game to your account. That would mean : no reselling of games.
