Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
So what if Chespin is sorta like Gabumon in Pokemon.

Gabumon is a dinosaur wearing a pelt of a wolf whose one of the "straight" evolutions turns him into a wolf and then into a werewolf and into an armor clad wolf again.

What if Chespin is like that? The reptile-like hoodie slowly turning it into a reptile?

EvilMario

Will QA for food.
If Fen is Fire/Psychic. I hope it has good speed and special cause I dont see it being defensive at all.

Even Victini with its great all around stats couldn't pull off the typing. Fire typing usually spells doom, even if the majority of Fire Pokemon are awesome.

I hope not.... rather keep the first mammal grass starter a mammal.

I think Earthquake should get a bonus in addition to STAB if a ground type uses it. Or cut it in half if's not ground-type. The element's best move is available to pretty much everyone.

I actually wouldn't mind around 50-75 new Pokemon. As long as they don't waste the spots... I want to see new Pokemon and a few evolutions to older Pokemon.

I know ;_; At most it will be a strong UU pokemon. Depends on new moves and such tho.

What would really help starters is not having to be stuck with the Torrent / Overgrow / Blaze abilities from the get go. Only a select few can actually use those abilities to their advantage and then we have to pray their Dream World ability (if those stick around) are decent (and released eventually).

Also, Victini's movepool is god like (thanks to Psychic typing), but it couldn't be saved.

Earthquake is perfect the way it is right now. It's a high risk move in either singles, or doubles. You can give an opponent a free switch in singles, and using it with a Choice'd Pokemon can be suicide. In Doubles, you need to team plan around it and have a good deal of prediction with your opponents Protect and your own Pokemon.

I've never been one for consistency.
1998 - Charmander/Red
2000 - Cyndaquil/Gold
2003 - Torchic/Ruby
2007 - Chimchar/Diamond
2011 - Tepig/Black
2013 - ? ? ?/? ? ?

Sayong "over 700" Pokemon just means that the final dex count sits somewhere over 700, not that there's only going to be 50 new Pokemon. Even GS, the gen that added the least, had at least 100. So expect the final to be around 750-780 at average.

Indeed. Screw the silly abilities the starters get. Im guessing Fen will have a nice move pool so UU it is. The others I dunno. Grass/Dark we have seen before so it depends on stats..the frog is anyones guess.

ATM I wanna see the regional bird. Any ideas of a bird that would fit the europeon type feel?

Thank you, I am not very well versed in competitive battling.

grass/rock is the only option.....tho that would make the fire starter only have neutral damage unless it evolves into a fire/fi......oh God.

Are we assuming this will just be sticking to France? Gallic rooster is the national bird.

As others have said, Chespin has just grown on me.

Did a quick and dirty edit of my avatar. Didn't want to mess too long making it properly cover the head, figured it works as a headband too.

They also tried to pump it with as many strong coverage moves as possible and it still isn't OU.

It has V-Create and Bolt Strike, for god's sake. They're both well over 120 BP.

lol i went to google to try to discover some trivial piece of evidence to prove grass pokemon are terrible but instead found out that pokemon is #1 on google trends. not that this really means a whole lot since wii u was #1 as well, but it's still cool

Yeah Fire/Psychic is just really awful.

Weakness to Pursuit in general is damning, and then add on weaknesses to Earthquake/Surf/Stealth Rock and you have a Pokemon that will have zero use in competitive play.

As in "Heathcliff"
Again, during Japanese pre-release it was often said that the games would feature over 100 new Pokemon. It's just a bit of buzz on the fact there are new Pokemon. Saying 750 or 800 is probably too specific for them right now.

That's my point. People were worried about getting only 50-51 pokemons. They only said 700+.

Was this posted? Apparently from a press release
*In addition to existing Pokemon, there will be a large number of completely new Pokemon. *The additions will bring the total number of Pokemon in the franchise from the current 649 to over 700.
*Because of Pokemon X and Y, the Pokemon anime, movies, card game, and merchandise will “break into a new dimension.”
*People around the world will be able to simultaneously experience “Real Play.” (I’m assuming this is referring to the game’s global October release.)
*The game will utilize the 3DS to its maximum abilities to leverage its overwhelmingly beautiful presentation.
*The game uses an innovative communication system that makes it feel as if you are playing with other players around the world.
*The bonds between players and Pokemon will deepen, and Pokemon will become stronger with the new battle structure.

Anime reboot perhaps?

Sounds pretty vague, but I really hope there are a lot more than just 50 new pokemon.

Looks good! Can you take a quick stab at Chespin-ing my avatar? Someone tried it and I appreciate it, but they blurred the edges so that it bled into the head. :O

It's really interesting to read the opinions on the starters.. Everyone seems to have a different taste. I really do not like Chespin, but really like the other two. Froakie looks cute while Fennekin looks badass. Chespin looks just 'meh' to me.

I always started with fire, until BW/B2W2, where I picked Snivy. Maybe this will be the first time that I'll pick water, but, I might revert back to fire too. I guess I'll choose depending on the stats or additional type. We'll see ^_^

They should really rebalance the game for some types. Stuff like Stealth Rock just royally fucks over multiple types. Wish they'd just get rid of that move.

Yep.

It's only natural in a world where Dragons dominate, Drizzle is common and Rock moves are everywhere that Fire types would suffer (true for 'Smogon' singles and VGC). You basically have to have an amazing movepool to help your team out (Infernape in doubles can be helpful), outstanding secondary typing and ability (Heatran), or an absurd setup move and movepool (Volcarona).

I'm going to make a bold statement.

I think Chespin (pending his later evos) is my new favorite starter of all time.

Oh snap.

I just realized that GameFreak is forced to design a Pokémon who will be National Dex #666.

I would like for something to happen where we dont end up seeing the same few moves used during tournaments. A change like that would work nicely.

Less Pokemon? Seems alright, and makes sense considering Gamefreak is building from the ground up with this game. Pokemon have never been in 3D and animated like this, so they have to use completely new assests for everything.

This is a great concept:
"I read somewhere that Fennekin is a noble lady, Froakie is a sneaky thief and Chespin is a knight, so I wanted to go with that idea for my evolutions. I considered giving him a quill sword but that was too similar to oshawott so I gave him leaf arm shields instead. This'll probably get scrapped later, so enjoy it while its here."
