I think the reason they changed the controls in the first place was to get away from "your stick must be neutral to do this" which confuses people... I guess?

I guess. I think double-tapping forward is harder than assigning Stinger to forward+B or Circle. They needed to do it for Attack, but Launcher is free.

Serious question: Couldn't they have simply made Stinger and Streak and whatever equivalent <toward, toward input> simply forward+launcher on the controller? That still requires no lock-on, and it's not difficult for a beginner to wrap their head around.
That's not going to work because sometimes you need to use the launcher in a particular direction and if there was a directional input there you would get a Stinger. Like let's say you wanted to use Tremor on your right side, if Flush was mapped to forward + O you would then get Flush in the right direction.

They should've made it dodge + attack. That works great in Darksiders.

Hm, I suppose that's true. Just seems like a waste of buttons.

That could work. Ah, I really should play Darksiders 2.

You'd have to make sure you're facing the proper direction but also at neutral before doing a launcher, which might be frustrating without lockon.

I'm fine with back, forward motions on analog sticks, but the forward, forward motions always feel muddy and unresponsive. You don't get the feedback from a dpad or the "click" in a Japanese arcade stick, so it's just an unsatisfying action to do. Just pressing 2 buttons and a direction simultaneously feels much better, as does a back to forward motion. I think it's because those are single motions while f,f is technically a double motion.

Instead of all these goof mods, I wish someone would just make a really detailed version of the current threads.

I was playing DMC4 last night while my 11 year old nephew was around. After watching me fight a Blitz using Nero for about 30s or so he commented, "This music is really cool."

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Target demography confirmed.

One of the reasons why no lock on sucks is that I can't even see the health of enemies. Very problematic in DMD when you are trying to kill one of two same type enemies like 2 Dreamrunners.

Sometimes I feel like such a scrub in this game.

I wish this game wasn't called Devil May Cry so we could talk about how it's pretty easily the best western action game yet instead of complaining that it's not DMC3. Which is shocking coming from Ninja Theory, whose past couple games had like half a second of input lag, constant framerate drops, and screen tearing out the ass.

Whatever they do with the series from here, I hope they keep the launcher button and dodge button.
But does it qualify as a western action game seeing how Capcom directed them on the combat system? From some of the interviews, I assume Capcom was pretty hands on during the game's development.

They were, and it's quite clear that Capcom's intervention had a lot to do with why the action turned out as solid as it did. As for whether that disqualifies it as a Western action game I can't say.

Such a simple change but it does a lot for me.
I really want this mod.

Finally finished the game. Loved it. It's a solid 8/10 game. The combat, while not feeling as if it has too much depth to explore, was incredibly fun the first time through, but the levels, while looking good, simply equated to pretty floating corridors in majority. There were areas that allowed bits of exploration, like The Order HQ, but actually diverting from the path never felt all that rewarding. Instead of keys, lost souls, and doors, NT should have played to their strength and rewarded the player with extra bits of characterization/narrative along with the former mentions, because the game felt odd in the department as is.

I forget who it was on here that said it felt as if the characters acted on constant impulse, not rational motivations, and they were spot on. Orders were accepted within minutes, and shit just happen. There wasn't much of a build-up, or tension, to any particular scene--feeling like the majority of development happen off-screen. Which is incredibly disappointing, as the character skeletons they have here were pretty good. Dante, Kat, Phineas, even Vergil.

I look forward to what else NT has in store for the series.

Hmm, yeah, I could see how platforming would bug people. I'm already kind of sick of it and I just reached the part where the demo ended. Not feeling the game, but I'm going to try to approach it when a clearer head later because I currently have a fervor and I'm really dizzy and sleepy.

Not sure if looking for a save for a higher difficulty is the right move or not. I can't see myself replaying this with the platforming.

Are you guys serious about the stubble? It's awful lmfao.

What do you have against Italian pornstars?

The stubble looks awful. Only Uncle Dante can pull that off.

A fellow hater of platforming. :)

Stubble looks better on new Dante.

The fight was cool but I mean it showed how powerful the demon pull is in the fight. Although the guy's use of Angel Glide was nice to keep on the move, I am going to x-copy that shit but then again I don't know when I would use that since I have already SSS'd the last boss fight on DMD.

Donte...?

What is this, elementary school?

Anyways, just get this game and now on chapter three. Playing on Nephilim. Kind of surprised on how easy the game so far seeing that Nephilim supposed to be "hard"? Anyways, definitely a lot easier than DMC3.

I really like the presentation though. Dante isn't too bad too, enjoyable chap.

If you see some of the interviews with Tim Phillips (VA for Dante) you will notice that his pronunciation of Dante is essentially "Donte". That's where the whole thing started.

He wasn't alone.
Okay, only achievements left are kill 5 thousand demons, Hell&Hell and Nephillim SSS.
Well aside from the Virgil ones.

Was fun... mostly.
Or, I hate this game so much.

It was so close.
