Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

Until it's a global requirement for everyone to have at least 10Mb/s down/up with less than 150ms ping, I'd say the "always online" is an acceptable complaint. Due to businesses like Qwest ignoring every rural request, my parent's house has a max of 300 kb/s down 100 kb/s up. My Xbox always chugged along on that connection until I went to college, so always online would have been a bitch for me. It's not always you either have internet or you don't.

Let me reiterate then,

The game isn't designed around a single player campaign, so tough titties!

60-40 is a majority Steely!

The Traveler is really the Librarian in a Cryptum, with the game's prologue being the buildup to the Halo Event. The "Great Ravaging" was the activation of the Halo array. As for how humanity managed to get devolved once more and clear out the aliens in time for recorded history and eventually the Halo franchise is anyone's guess.

How can people bitch about it requiring online if the whole point is that it's a living, persistent online world that you can plug into? It makes no sense to me. They've constantly said it's designed to be social from the ground up...

Indeed. I bitch about it when there's no reason for you to be on the internet while playing a single-player experience, but any sort of MMO or persistent world has to be always online, duh.

No way close to Halo numbers? That's a joke, it's multi-platform and Bungie...I have the feeling it'll far surpass Halo.

Halos sell upwards of 6 million at least (sadly we don't have firm numbers of Reach and 4, but it's safe to say they're close to Halo 3, if not with the same lifespan.) I don't necessarily think Destiny will pull that, because it's not a normal shooter and it's not the "HALO" name splashed on the cover. I don't think it will do badly by any means, and I think it's clear Bungie is banking on building on the success of the first game. "Wildly successful" for the first game in a franchise often looks like chump change when the franchise really takes off in its later incarnations.

Destiny reveal was awesome. Not sure what people were expecting for an early teaser. This is Bungie - they will drag this thing out.

Not a fan of having to fly to the arena play competitive MP, hopefully it's not clunky. I have hope after Bungie's track record of UIs.

I'm not really disappointed with the reveal. It looks really awesome. It's not just another game in the series they were unveiling there, it's a new universe. They need time to explain the concept to people, and build it up piece by piece, slowly like they always do.

What surprised me though is the way they handled the press/media day. A lot of journalists are pretty irked that they were asked to fly out for a day of powerpoints and practically 0 gameplay. I guess that puts them on the same level as us, but still. It's gotta sting a bit.

Also, Halo related, Throwback settings up this afternoon, and Spartan Ops finally in the AM. Pretty excited for that, actually.

(also I can't help the hype, I have to say, Destiny is sounding A LOT like a super mega awesome solar system scale- Spartan Ops-type thing, complete with hub worlds! which is SO good. Let's see if Bungie can deliver...)

I think I like the idea of designated skirmish areas in the gameworld. Fly to where people are competing and jump in line? Could be fun and a nice break from waiting around in menus.

Where's all the cool news in one spot for me? I can't be click clackin all through this thread today. Aint got time for dat

Bungie's making a Halo game with different character designs. It has MMO type elements so you can't play offline. They invited a bunch of press to see the game then didn't show them the game. They had more generic Marty O Donnel orchestral music in the background. There was concept art of space marines and aliens. You jump through blue portals like in Halo 4. The UI looks good.

Wow what the fuck did they do to Exile in Snipers, did they change the spawns? It is horrible I get spawnkilled almost every second time :/

EDIT: Wow Kyle I guess if you do it like this no game is good, keep these quality posts up.
Yep the blue portals are exactly like in Halo 4. And Halo 4 invented them, don't forget that.

Sounds about right. Good synopsis.

Yeah, when I say "quit videogames" I really mean "play indie games and Football Manager and nothing else forever".

  • Online-only
  • No subscription
  • No "main menu"
  • Matchmaking and game matchups done on the fly in-game, rather than through lobbies
  • Hub "public" zones that are all 3rd person. This is where you meet up with players, exchange loot, etc, etc. The one described in the news is on Earth, the Last City and mainly in a place called The Tower, but there are others on the other planets, too, apparently. One for Mars was suggested.
  • Raids/Dungeons
  • Game will seamlessly add players in and out of your co-op or solo adventure, think like Journey-style.
  • Takes place in a variety of locations: Earth, Venus, Mars, The Moon, rings of Saturn, Mercury, moons of Jupiter... more could be added
  • Each planet/location is treated as a "book" as far as story and structure is concerned. You can play and unlock new chapters within each planet's book.
  • You can get your own ship, and can customize it. Higher level = better ships.
  • Similarily, you can customize your character, appearance, skills probably, and weapons. Vehicles too.
  • Only human are said to be playable so far.
  • Three announced classes: Hunter (like a Rogue class I'd say), Titan (like Spartan I guess), and Warlock (magic user). Yes, there is magic. Space magic
  • No word on space combat or space travel, but if you get your own ship, I don't see why not.
  • Game will have no loading screens, no progress bars. Implying seamless travel from location to location.
  • Ties in with mobile apps and social networks, ie: set up parties and missions, get allerted of new chapters available, new locations, events, etc. Customize character...
  • Races are: Human, Vex (time travelling robots), Spiders Pirates, Cabal (rhino people), and some others
  • Faction Wars features, competitive hoppers, not very elaborated upon.
  • "Squads/Crews" look to be up to 6 people, but you can imagine that you could have pairings of multiple squads, or enemies.
  • Probably a lot more that I missed, but that's some of the main stuff.

Man, we will never see an ODST ever again. Dark, gloomy and a sax playing in the backround, most bizarre elements that made one of the best campaigns possible. *Weep*

Gonna use this for the reveal thread. Yoink!

Thanks

I actually agree with you on this. The note progression in Marty's stuff was really... predictable, I guess. His instrumentation and post-processing sounds better but that doesn't mean anything if he can't get some good melodies out of it.

Yet I'm sitting online on my Xbox right now. Interesting...

You don't even play video games anymore. Go find a hillbilly to bang or something.

I just tried to play some BLOPS 2, but my TV just doesn't allow it, no matter what settings I disable it's still lag city!

Soon, I will return!

Also, I'd be playing the shit out of Path of Exile if it didn't blue screen my PC.
