DmC |OT| No, F*ck You!

The other DMC modes were pretty balanced on every mode though.
Not DMC1 where Air Raid was OP in Normal mode because it did way more damage and was safe against the bosses. Actually most DT exclusive moves were scaled a lot for higher difficulties.

Not DMC3 where Royal Guard was not nearly as effective on lower difficulties because of the risk/reward ratio. High enemy health and DT system in DMD mode provided a unique challenge where you need to be up to snuff with your combos and know what you were doing with your actions.

. And even then, the easier modes in previous DMC games left openings to witness the experimentation and depth of the games mechanics - something DmC doesn't do anywhere near as effectively. Sorry pal, DmC is a so-so designed game put together by developers who always put together pretty mediocre games from a gameplay perspective. This is pretty par for the Ninja Theory course.
Good job circumventing the argument and going to attack the game + NT overall.

The argument was not that DmC was designed and balanced as excellently as the previous good DMC games... but whether DmC and DMC2 weapon balance was even in the same tier of being comparable. It's not. DMC2 has palette swap weapons with poor melee to firearm balance which is fundamentally opposite of how a DMC game even works.

Well the Dante in DmC also needed to feel real as opposed to past Dante's. I think they did a good job on that. There was some solid character development going on in DmC

Agree to disagree. DmC's Dante, with his hamfisted motivational changes at the drop of a hat, didn't seem like a real person to me at all.

What have they done to Vergil? This is character assassination! WHHHHY???

About half way through the DLC and I'm still not used to how Vergil is supposed to play. The animations on his basic Yamato combos feel really stilted and I'm not liking the 3-hit demon combo. I'll wait till I unlock everything until I make a real judgement but so far he's a lot different than I thought. Spiral Swords is boss though

I was a real skeptic of this reboot. Finally played the demo, I liked the combat, the writing is shit, and the game isn't as pretty as people put it.

Still, I went from "I won't play this" to "Will get it when it's cheap".

Quick question though, how is the Vergil DLC? I loved playing as him on DMC 3.

Why is the writing shit? I thought the game had really good dialogue.

Virgil's Downfall isn't too bad so far (just started it). Virgil is fun to play and I'm enjoying it.

Got through the DLC. It was a lot more challenging than the main game come to think of it. Vergil felt significantly harder to use than Dante, died a few times and my style rankings were pretty ass. Now that I unlocked the just frame launchers in SoS its a significantly easier. Spiral swords obliterates everything God damn! Need to play around with Doppelganger to get a grasp on it, only used it one other time after the first one. Big negative was how boring the area the DLC took place in was, lol at recycling a level I played like an hour ago and Vergil was pussified to the maximum.

Speaking of just frames, the rumble cue is godlike. I hope everything starts using it

On PC the game looks gorgeous and is optimized really well. Ultra settings @ 60 fps all day.

DMC3: SE is my favourite game in the series and I really love the DLC. Spent about 15 hours on it thus far.

For more impressions\reviews on the DLC, here's the thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=516626

SS mixed with Doppleganer is extremely powerful. You can basically obliterate anything the DLC throws at you in a matter of seconds.

So I'm confused on the "story" in Vergil's Downfall...

Does he actually kill Dante, or just a clone of some kind? If so should have been a real battle. And I guess at the end he's the new Demon King...?

It's all in Vergils head. The point was that he had the will to kill Dante. He didn't actually do anything.

Just finished the game, but I have NEVER played a previous DMC game. The only thing I know about Dante/Vergil is through Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 so it was pretty cool to see where their moves originated from and history.

I thought the presentation was amazing, bosses were pretty incredible, and the pace/controls was good. Took me a few levels to adjust to demon evade though. This is also probably my first action game like this (haven't touched Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden etc.)

Yeah, it was kinda easy (i played Normal?), but the story was compelling enough for me to not skip like I normally do. I also don't get the hate on DmC Dante, he seemed bad ass enough to me. All in all, took about 8 hrs.

Lol at the Spanish Mod

I am sure this will be considered as sacrilege by many, but I have played all the previous DMC games (not a hardcore fan, but still, managed to beat them all regardless) and I like this Dante the most.

They're literally completely different characters. The Dante and Vergil of UMvC3 are from the original series (as they were in DMC3, the origin story of the original series), whereas DmC is a completely different continuity/alternate universe.

OG Dante and Vergil: half-human, half-demon; younger twin, older twin
DmC Dante and Vergil: half-angel, half-demon (not human at all); older twin, younger twin

You should play DMC3:SE, since their UMvC3 moves were lifted straight from there.

Finally got a chance to play Vergil

HOLY FUCK he is FAST. I can't go back to Dante after this.

Eh, actually I found it really easy to go back to Dante. Vergil made me accutely aware of how much I rely on Buy-In to get enemies positioned for racking up the score, I had a much more difficult time getting up to SSS ranking combos without employing spiral swords or Doppleganger with Vergil. I really didn't like Divorce either, it may have been doing more damage, but it sure as hell didn't feel like it. Took forever to break shields with it.

Divorce is pretty damn slow. Volcano/Atomic is where it's at.

UMVC3 takes stuff from DMC3SE for Dante and Vergil. A lot of Trish's moves are brand new but there are some elements of DMC1/DMC2 in there. Vergil is a near 1:1 translation from action game to fighting game with all but 1 of his moves not making it in.

Didn't know that some of his kick moves are actually reinforced with those boots in UMvC3 thanks to that video. Interesting to know.

Just ended this game.
game was actually quite fun but i know ill get flamed for this it was no DMC. Game was very easy i was playing on the hardest difficulty and i rarely died and my most health drained during platforming sections! Also the enemy were very rarely aggressive and were just punching bags speaking of which to get high score you just needed to hit enemy with different weapons with basic hits and not get hit instead of to chaining combos.Boss battles were also very easy and predictable.
i was playing using mouse and keyboard and i was constantly getting SS rank and i am the guy who died 20 times on the fist boss of dmc3 se edition on automatic and easy.ALso combat was very very slower. At least the platforming section were much much better than previous DMC

beside that i really enjoyed the game. the level design was good and areas felt very different. The weapon variety was good and using all of them was fun . the artwork of limbo was fabulous and music was great too. story may be average but voice acting and presentation was superb. Specially loved fighting with Mudus gf and that area reminded me of kinetica for some reason.

final thoughts a good game and i enjoyed it a lot but for people who wanted next DMC its very disappointing.

btw how is the expansion pack Vergil downfall ?
if capcom are planing to make this a side series then i am very happy but if they are going to make only DmC then i will have to buy wiiu for bayonetta

Finished it a few days ago. While I wouldn't call it a horrible game, the experience felt pretty underwhelming overall. I can't believe I've actually played all of NT's games, with the exception of Kung Fu Chaos. I would say DmC is their most decent title thus far, but that's honestly not saying much.

Gameplay was pretty fun. While not as robust as DMC3 or 4, I still enjoyed the streamlined controls. Story, design, and everything else was very "meh". I'm personally not a fan of NT's art style...their games all look way too colorful. It felt like I was playing an Avatar game, lol. :/ However, the graphics were outstanding.

I actually kinda had fun with the platforming bits, but they felt too frequent after awhile.
The boss fights were a total joke, and an absolute cakewalk. I didn't have trouble with any of them. I was expecting an epic battle with the last boss, but was ultimately disappointed. I did however, enjoy the level designs for the Bob Barbas and Lilith fights. Attacking you with dubstep moves? Genius.

All in all, the game wasn't total fail. Just felt very uninspired. I'd give it maybe a 6.5 or 7/10. I borrowed my friend's copy, but maybe I'll pick it up someday when it drops to $15.

With that said, I'd much rather see a DMC5 over DmC2...if that ever happens. I'm not liking its chances. :(

Nah Sessler was the opposing guy. He gave it a 3/5.

But the whole thing wasn't exactly balanced, there wasn't anyone there who respected the old series much. I mean all they had to say about DMC3 was that opening cutscene and nipple strap.

Thr thing with DMC1 and DMC3 is that when they came out they had innovative mechanics which pushed the genre and stuff that is pretty much standard now. You have to give them that respect even if certain elements about them are dated (like the camera in DMC1).

It was already quite clear that the parts that Brad liked about the game were not the gameplay itself, and I've never gotten the impression that Sessler was particularly good at games, so I wasn't expecting much. I wasn't particularly surprised with anything they had to say about the characters, story, platforming, or level design. But once they started talking about gameplay I just had to shake my head repeatedly.

Scoring systems are for elitists? Vergil a bad boss battle (compared to the others in this game) because you had to learn how to dodge? Boss battles in general are outmoded?

I don't even have a response to that... I just can't even... ugh.

Brad is fucking terrible at the old DMCs. He even admitted it himself. He likes Donte may Cry because it doesn't require any skill to play. He's prectically the posterboy of the "Press A for Awesome" crowd.

On mission 7, and having a pretty good time thus far. I think it's safe to say this game was made with people like myself in mind. That is, someone who has absolutely no attachment to the old series and who just wants a fun action game.

I do feel bad for NT that this game bombed though. They really can't catch a break when it comes to sales. I kind of wished this game sold well just so NT can finally have a hit. I do wonder if DmC 2 will be made, or if Capcom will even continue the series (DMC5).

I'm at mission 11 and loving it, I played all the older DMCs when they came out but not since. This game isn't nearly as bad as some people in this thread made it seem.
