Kiefer Sutherland is the new Snake

LOOOL, that's not a horn, that's a piece of metal from an accident that they can't take out yet. At least that's what I get from it.

IT'S NOT A HORN.

You missed my point. Yes, I agree, it is not a "horn" but a piece of shrapnel that got stuck in his dome.

However:

1. Does that piece of shrapnel look exactly like a horn? Yes.
2. Is that piece of shrapnel in the same spot that an "actual" (lol) horn would be? Yes.

See what I mean? While it may not "technically" be a horn, for all intents and purposes, it is a horn / represents a horn.

After 15 years of that voice, I don't think I can get into the games anymore with a completely different one. It's just not the same to me.

Stuff like this is why it's dumb going after a big name like Kiefer.

There's no way they'll want to spend the money it'd cost to get him in for Smash. And what happens if they want to do another lower-budget game like Peace Walker? Just nailing him down for sequels in general is going to be a bit of a pain in the arse for them.
That's one of my issues as well. Also how expensive is a recording session with Kiefer? Does this mean they have to cut down on all (from a gameplay point of view) useless codec conversations? I think a lot of the charm would be lost without those.

Apart from the dialogue at the start? "What happened to the woman?" They both sound like they're being voiced by Sutherland.
missed that bit

Perfect example for what's wrong with this industry. Rise costs by hiring a damn expensive actor who will not benefit the game's fun. And what if the game doesn't sell as well as expected? Then used games are the problem!

You realize that actors aren't always at liberty to talk about their projects until given the go-ahead, right? Marketing. PR. NDA's. Contracts. Look it up.

Guess you've all heard the news by now! Honored to be working on such a beloved old franchise; can't wait for you guys to hear my take on Big Boss! #MGS5

...Just kidding, he didn't actually tweet that. Nor will he, because to him, this is just some dumb video game he's never heard of. Just another paying gig.

That's not relevant to what I said.

You have no idea what the game will be like with Kiefer.

Hey, you might even enjoy it more than the other games! But no. Nope. You won't even give the game a chance because they took a relatively mediocre voice actor out of the game.

Good for you.

There is no need to get upset.

How am I upset?
Hayter fans are upset, not me

People being mad over a voice acting change in a video game just doesn't seem right to me.

It's often that the privileged don't have their priorities straight. I'm fairly certain at a portion of these guys will get over it once they see more of the game, though.

Kiefer is definitely just as exited about MGS and cares about it as much as Hayter. Why just look at each one's Twitter.

If Hayter truly cared about MGS he would be thanking fans for their support and wishing Kiefer the best of luck with the role.

Instead he seems hell-bent on causing a major backlash, crying that he was "fired", and implying that the game will be a failure without him. Guy thinks way too highly of himself.

I am actually surprised how many here likes Kiefer. I don't dislike him or anything, but I don't see him the awesome hollywood guy either.

I loved Hayter's voice for Snake, fuck da haytas.

But I'm not going crazy over the change or anything, it's not that integral to the experience for me. I'm sure Kiefer will give the role substance with the added facial work, and who knows, perhaps Hayter's role as Snake will subsist, since this change is for Big Boss alone.

Looks like you didn't read one of my earlier posts. One of the reasons I love(d) this franchise is that I've grown attached to the characters. Meaning ruining those characters ruins the franchise.

Did you watch the video? He has heard of it before.

Also all great actors are passionate about their job, it's not just another gig to him, there are interviews about his experience on 24, they show how much these roles mean to him.

Someone should shop Richard Doyle's Big Boss MGS4 face on that picture of Ron Paul sitting alone on a chair in an empty room.

I kind of feel bad for Hayter. He is Solid Snake to me. The thing is though that Big Boss is a different character, so I don't mind so much a voice change. Yeah Hayter has been playing Big Boss since MGS3 with the exception of MGS4, but the person who should be really pissed is Doyle. I won't mind so much Sutherland taking over the role of Big Boss, but it is going to be really, really weird hearing Big Boss have a different voice. I also don't trust most Hollywood actors when it comes to voice acting in games. Sutherland was in WaW, but MGS is a whole different animal. Unless he has some control over the script, I can foresee some very odd voice acting when it comes to Kojima's writing. Say what you will about Hayter, but the dude at least tried to do what he could with what he was given. I wonder how Sutherland will react if the script is as much of a bloated mess as MGS4.

That's what I'm talking about. You don't know if the character was ruined. You just decided to believe it was ruined.

I can tell you won't even try to think any other way so I'll stop talking about this because unfortunately it's a waste of time.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
While i love Sutherland, i think he's a great actor and 24 is one of my favorite tv shows ever. I'm not sure if he fits Snake. We'll see.

I was very excited when i heard him in the Phantom Pain trailer but as Snake? i'm not really sure.

but in Kojima i trust.

Yeah they are, which is why some might make statements like "I won't be buying this game," they're just reacting to disappointment right now, there's no use debating with them.
I'm sure down the line most will get over it.

Also like someone else said@

Big Boss = Kiefer
Solid Snake = Hayter

You'll get over it. And you'll end up loving Keifer, because Keifer is a great talent.

I'm sure Sutherland isn't lacking in talent. That's not my hang up. Snake has a pretty distinct voice and that's the voice I identify him with.

Guys, stop.

Solid Snake = David Hayter
Big Boss = Keifer Sutherland

If you think of it that way there is a lot less to be upset about.

or
Fake BigBoss = Keifer Sutherland
Real BigBoss = David Hayter

actually i don't care the voice
i hate hayter in MGSIV, so overreacted

This is fantastic news.

I'm sorry, but Hayter didn't bring anything substantial to the table voice acting wise after MGS1. His voice work was fine, good even. After MGS2 every Snake sounded goofy or oddly composed voice wise, the Snake character/icon having a new voice will be refreshing.

Not buying a game because of a voice actor not returning seems so forced.

Because of a voice actor? That's beyond ridiculous.

Nuh uh. Didn't you hear? If you change the main voice actor, then it is no longer Metal Gear. So if I took the past games and replaced Hayter with Kiefer than the games will turn into Call of Duty clones.

Major backlash? wtf.

He made a harmless dig, and has thanked his fans constantly. The hate towards hayter is so irrational.

It was a mistake to even cast hayter as BB in the first place. They only did it to satisfy a completely obvious ending twist in MGS3.
