PS4 hardware design unveiled

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Now here's hoping the fan isn't super loud like my previous 60gb PS3.

My 60GB PS3 seemed quiet, but maybe that was just because my launch 360 sounded like a jet taking off.
But my 60GB PS3 was like a space heater. You probably could have used it to cook meat if you placed it by the right side.

Speaking of space friendly, the XBone can't stand vertical right? Ps4 on the other hand looks like better standing vertical

and also I thought it was really cool they gave props to the guy who did the design and his team. Very nice gesture

Looks great to me. Love the blue accent and the slant. I looks futuristic.

didn't like the design that much. it may look better in person but in pics it looks strange.
IMO xbone has better design

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
I really like the first shot in the OP. But hate the second. USB ports need to be hidden or just not in the middle.. looks bad.

Doesn't look too bad, but not really good either. And not exactly neutral looking... but not offensive. No strong feelings in any direction...

Way smaller than the XB1, far less vents, and supposedly the power supply is internal as well? Very impressed by Sony's engineering in this case.

It looks like a monolith, like some giant shard of obsidian. Especially when it's standing up.

The more I look at it the more it grows on me, especially details like the power/eject buttons on the front and those sides.

looks like no power brick either :)

the documentation say it comes with 1x AC Power Cord

Look at the text on the first page, it confirms that the Power supply is part of the internal architecture.

This is incredible engineering if all true. It might be very noisy then??

Yes. It has presence and flair. GAF has no taste when it comes to this sort of thing, but I think most will grow to appreciate the design.

So Microsoft is going to have the hubristically expensive console and Sony is going to have the comparatively cheap console that will overheat and kill itself? Quite the reversal from the last console generation.

I take it the PS Eye is not included?

The PDF Sony put out says it's not packed in with the console. I'm very happy about that. I prefer a lower price for the machine over a camera.

Oh, yeah. I think this is one of those designs that will grow on people. Now I want to see it in person. There's several things I'm interested in like how hot does it get to the touch and what character of sound does the fan make.

Also, I don't think it looks like the XBone. PS4 has more angles that make it interesting to look at. XBone is literally just a box.

I like it a lot, very interesting details. Love the blue strip and near invisible buttons. The recessed ports front and rear with stealthy vents are also damn clean.

How does anyone think it looks like the Xbone? It has no curve but other than that it really does not look the same to me. Blue accent is nice and minimal buttons are cool. Digging the fact that it goes vertical and reminds me of a ziggurat somewhat.

It's not great imo, but i was surprised by the small dimension and weight(an empty console?)
