I like the idea of - if there are a decent number of exclusives which I'm sure there will be - pick up a used xbox one in 2-3 years and used copies of those games, and play them offline. So MS don't get any of your money or any online fees and you don't contribute to their online stats.
PSN+ doesnt need to be connected to the internet to know at what date your subscription runs out to make games unplayable.
Im sure they could do something similar.
Ive got to ask does he work for microsoft?
It's interesting because in an interview Major nelson says flat out "if your son is at college and you buy halo, you can call him up and let him know he can play it" to me thats saying "son, i got you this game you dont have to go buy it now"
Fuck them if that was the case
So why are they taking family share mode out if all it really is is OS and Xbox Live support for demos? Spite? It wasn't actually implemented yet and its no longer worth it to invest the resources to create it (I believe the pastebin post said it was ready to go.)?
I'd actually think most publishers would still like family sharing because it means they don't have to create separate demo versions of games on their own dime.
It only ever existed to take the sting out of not being able to simply hand a game over to someone else for them to borrow. So why are they taking family share mode out if all it really is is OS and Xbox Live support for demos? Has any other site confirmed this as true or atleast covering the story?
By the by, CBOAT carries no clout with a lot of MS fans, atleast at the teamxbox forums. :lol

Nah he doesn't flat out say this, he says instead that his son can "check it out". He uses the words "check it out" quite a few times, haha. Just want to throw a "thank you" in for CBOAT. The stuff of legends. Not the hero we deserve, but the hero we need. He's fucking Quetzalcoatl.
Sorry there's no hard facts, we don't what it could of been.
My hopes are still up.
I'm the only one 100% not caring about this?
It's a done deal, there is no source.

Well we know it wasn't a time limited demo.
A one hour demo wouldn't even make sense because with their DRM they could have offered a one hour trial for every game on their marketplace.
But of course there are going to be those Microsoft haters that deny it.
"Corporate pawns trying to sell their anti-consumer policies."
I guess we'll only really know when it is (hopefully) released later for digital purchases.

I think the theory is sound that they were going to do the 1 hour limit thing, then decided after so much backlash over other policies that they had better throw a bone to consumers so they actually did attempt to do what they said where you can share with your "family" for unlimited amount of time but hadn't hammered out the actual policy at that time.
I'm guessing publishers told them to go fuck themselves as that would end up with worse revenues than used game sales and so they had no choice but to drop everything back to "old school" policies.

Moving this post here since this seems to be the new thread.
What's funny is that they DID hint at this. In an obfuscated way. We just never noticed.
Remember when the DRM was first revealed? The easiest complaint was "What if I wanted to take it to my friend's house?"
Remember the response?

We just glossed over that because we figured, during the PEAK of the "24 hour check" freakout, that 1 hour offline for visiting a friend was just more shit on the cake.
Nope.
That was the max amount of time a friend could play a copy. Period
It was in front of our face the whole time.

This post is extremely inaccurate. The 1 hour thing is how long you can stay offline when using your profile on another console. The 24h is how long you can stay offline on your own console. That's it.
With the debunking by MS now out I hope we can put this time limit bullshit to rest.

To be loged on and access to someone library shouldn't you be....online?.
Seems you're adding an explanation that MS never did or specified. Their whole message was ambiguous and confusing for some reason.
With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library.
Yeah, our marvelous yet to be specified feature that now will remain unreleased forever, was indeed marvelous and in no way we tried to phony our users into thinking that to compensate our draconian DRM we were going to add a more damaging feature to first hand sales.

Well Microsoft exactly explained what that referenced one hour thing was about:
http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/connected
I don't really know how we got to that being some secret hidden message about the family share plan, except that both things involve an increment of an hour.

Exactly. It seems anything, even taken severely out of context, can be used to bash MS/Xbox One.
The person that said that though cant tell the difference between a demo and what family share offered.
Demo's are extremely limited. Set mission/MP map etc, barely lasting 10min in the majority of cases.
Family share was full access to the game for a one hour period.
MS's own policies released (the one hour check in) supports CBOAT's version rather than Greenberg's. Especially when you consider MS are still on a damage limitation exercise. They will say anything to distance themselves from anything DRM related
