Index (Atlus) entering into a restructuring bankruptcy; looking to transfer/sell

Microsoft buying Atlus would be a colossal mistake. Nintendo could make it work, but they couldn't.

Might as well bankrupt them again if that's the case.

kyons you cannot be serious

Gurl.... Anything to keep it from those two platforms I'm good. No fanks. They can have SMT tho nothing would be lost since they been releasing them on that anyway. If not P4G and Dragons Crown would be a swan song I won't complain about.

Hopefully things work out. :/

I don't really care too much about who/where the IPs go, as long as they're still putting out games I want... somewhere.

No pachinko machines or mobile games tho... my heart can't take it. lol

Yep, this.

Although I must say, for as much as people love to say, "Atlus didn't release any current-gen games this gen except for Catherine!", Nintendo buying them would make that trend permanent. Tragic irony there.
Why is that? WiiU would be perfect for Atlus' console budgets. And Catherine looked glorious. Their games don't need better specs IMO.

This is masterful trolling. I applaud you sir. Good job.

yes. in fact, apparently it was the only positive light out of the corruption ordeal.

Source proving that they had been profitable in recent years? Because according to this Atlus's finance had never been as good as what many of you guys seem to think:

http://finella.nemissa.info/2010/02/14/end-of-the-atlus-we-know/

Fast-forward to now. Atlus hasn’t been doing well the last few years. P3/4 and the Trauma Center series are relatively successful, but their arcade division as a whole made severe losses.

NINE was also a flop and Imagine was also consuming so much resources that they had to dump it out to Cave to continue.

Strange Journey didn’t sell that well either. In fact, the PSP remake of P3 outsold it.

Due to their losses and the bad economy, Atlus had to sell and/or close down some of their subsidiaries back in November, hoping that they’ll recover their losses in the next quarter (Jan 2010).

Obviously that isn’t happening….

Anyway, just what could this mean?

Just being pessimistic here, but since SJ’s sale is low, we might never see a classic SMT-style game again.

Inb4 9001 Persona 3/4 spinoffs/remakes.

Time will tell just how this change will actually affect us, the consumers.

Atlus ATM is nothing more than a small worthless fry in the video game market, when was the last time any of their game sold more than 1 million? That's the reality of the video game market ATM, people here constantly shit on AAA games but it's likely your AAA companies are in much better shape than those companies who are constantly having a 150K sales target.

i mean what if they just kinda kept em 2nd party-ish and published though, like they're half-way doing at the moment for platinum
i wouldnt see much reason to fuss there, plus you know you got a 3DS already stop frontin

we need to coordinate a village visit haha

Kyon, why opposed to Nintendo owning them?

Kyons is that ride-or-die-for-sony head; you gotta figure if Atlus dropped off the vita than looking back at the PSP the golden years would be sadly barren is the thing (my best guess haha)

Well, at least I got the amazing Zeno Clash games out of them!

Batteries the CRISIS!
Bankruptcy doesn't mean that a company goes away. It means that it wipes its debt off the books and restructures some things. In this case, it sounds like some new investors are coming in who likely will make some changes and require some efficiencies to make their money back. But bottom line is that Atlas probably will keep making and releasing video games.

There's an unbelievable amount of weeping in this thread. Atlas is probably going to survive, at least in the short term.

[edit] Duckroll's post below mine is interesting ... so perhaps Index will spin off Atlas under new ownership — either a group of new investors, or another video game company. But either way! Atlas is gonna survive! It'll be OK.

This is the official press release sent out announcing their civil restructuring. There's a lot of legal speak in it, but further down one of the important sections is their outlook for the situation. It states that the game division is clearly the most desirable and functional part of Index's business, and that's one area they plan on expanding on specifically. They will seek out and select a sponsor as soon as possible to conduct a business transfer before the situation further damages the value of this core business.

Sounds like they're looking for a partner or a straight buy-out.

so essentially they're going to try and do an snk playmore thing (except without the guys in charge of index because they will be getting jailtime?)

Why are you so loyal to Sony? I'd rather be able to play any future Atlus games than no games at all.

2 words: region locking.

Actually no I'm an importer and I have 2 JP 3DSs. Already pre ordered my two MH4 XLs too

Can you imagine a Persona series where Nintendo doesn't allow them to write the story first?

That would be a mess

i mean what if they just kinda kept em 2nd party-ish and published though, like they're half-way doing at the moment for platinum

Yes we do ;)

And and actually I'm Sony/Nintendo hun since day 1.(Did we not buy Wii U's day 1 together?) Just for persona imma need ha in HD. And P3P was a tragedy. So yeah

Except it's not, since it's my actual opinion.

No offense if you like Wii U, but I want P5 on tech that's actually current; Not on a console with innards last considered impressive in 2009.

I hear you. I don't think they could afford the nextgen development tbh so we will probably never know.

There we go. Quoted so people don't miss.

That was oddly embarrassing.

So this is where they're allowed to sell "all or part of their business," then. : P

(or I found something completely irrelevant).

If they get the dev teams, but not the IP, and are forced to redo all their lore and get rid of almost 20 years of world and lore building, I am out. I do not want to play a "Megaten" game that has no Jack Frost or has a fake one, Jeraldo Freezing or some shit.

Well, if Atlus will be integrated into another company, I wouldn't be surprised if several key members would decide to form new and smaller studios independently anyway.

Persona 5 is probably going to be on the PS3 so...

Nintendo buys Atlas IP *Persona 5 Wii U exclusive; Gaf down for weeks*

Xbox One exclusive would be worse I guess. Or more hilarious actually.

nah that would mean the series would move forward and not backwards so i'd take that. Or if its PS3 still then 0 problems[/QUOTE]

So, just to be absolutely clear, you're stating that a (hypothetical, joking) Persona 5 would:

* Move forwards on Xbox One
* Be fine on PS3
* Move backwards on Wii U

May I gently suggest that you're not using the most open-minded appraisal of the situation?
