Lightning Costume for FFXIV:ARR

Seriously cancelling my preorder for this game, not even exaggerating. I hate FFXIII that much and this is silly.

lol

It will probably be a popular "town" outfit to wear for a while, but it'll wear off eventually. I just find it odd you could cancel a preorder for a game that you were interested in (assuming you were, anyways) just because of this. *shrug*

Yeah. This may work out fine in Japan, but I have to wonder how much it will hurt the game globally.

It won't for me. Final Backstreets BACK ALRIGHT versus XIII is a-okay with me.

I wonder when we'll get to see Zack and Lightning - Japans ultimate favorite FF characters - sit down and have a beer in Ul'dah. It'll be like a strange alternate universe
(like Dissidia)
where all Final Fantasy heroes meet up and relax a while.

So this game really is becoming a casual joke? Now using 14 to promote 13-3... I want this game less, look at what they are doing for new content.

I already posted my sentiments towards people who get pissed off about a simple costume being included in a game the character is not from, and in short, I think its just a stupid excuse just to show you hate a character. Would it honestly make you not preorder/buy a game? Makes me question your real intentions of buying the game...

Anyway, this is awesome, if only for the reactions. ;)

It's not just a simple costume though. She's in the actual game and tied to a quest line. Lore be damned.

Wait, there is also Snow? Fuck that, I'm bringing my FFXIV 1.0 copy back to the store!!!!!

I can only hope Lightning will be included in XV too.

It's not just like, "I'm mad because I don't like Lightning!"

First of all, it's hard for me to justify paying a subscription while they're advertising Lightning Returns in the game.

Even more importantly, the idea of this type of thing is really tacky and clashes strongly with the game and its own lore. I was already worried about the longevity of this game because it feels pretty shallow and automatic. Having Lightning in the game with her own series of quests and an outfit that makes characters look exactly like her tells me that they don't take the game very seriously. I can no longer hold out hope that they have some greater plan that will make the game last. It seems obvious that this is going to be a theme ass theme park where the only reason to stay is to wait for the new FFXIII Hope series of quests being added in a few months.

Since two people implied otherwise:

Even so... such a small portion of the game would invalidate all the rest/positive aspects of the game. You dont like her being in the game? I cant imagine it would be so hard to just ignore one quest or two and some costumes. Its borderline overreacting imo.

Haha you actually think it's going to be a major huge questline or something

Yeah I'm sure that that's been done in any other mmo, every quest is serioustime for serious people only.

It's even more amusing to see the defenders of this not acknowledging the real complaint here, and chooses to focus on the costume. So sweet indeed. :p

It's just the silly Backstreet Boy-ish CGI art's *POSE* that looks silly. In in-game situations the characters fit really well and look perfectly fine.

WTF is this shit? Even Cloud has never been this forced and he is the most popular lead in FF for fuck sake. Can we just drop this shit character already.

Optional quest + optional costume = ruining the lore of the game. Keep it coming guys.
How does the fact that it's optional have anything to do with...anything?

She's still in the game, sticking out like a sore thumb. People will still be running around as her doppleganger. I can't turn that off. Participating in the quests is optional, but in an MMO all of the content is part of the world.

Lol, that's just sad. So you didn't care at all about all the pandering to, say, FFVI fans, yet when there's one questline for one character you don't like, then that's suddenly OMG GAME IS GOING TO BE SHIT. Square Enix is going to support XIV like they supported XI, with big meaningful expansions, in addition to smaller stuff like this. Just because there's a Lightning questline & clothes won't change that, it's clearly just to promote Lightning Returns, which is a game from the same company releasing somewhat soon after XIV.

Just admit you were never going to buy the game in the first place. And that you are glad Square gave you a reason not to do so. No shame man. ;)

Meanwhile people will be strolling around in Magitek armor from FF6. What's your point.

I find people w/ names like Sephirothxxxx FAR more distracting.

At least there is still FFXI for uncompromising lore...

Not like this would prevent me from playing it, but it does seem like a stupid choice. The costumes alone would have been enough to have a cross-over with XIII since LR has the XIV costume, but if anything XIII is the one that needed the help, not the other way around.

That gets on my nerves too, but it's forgivable because I don't expect them to not let people choose their own names.

Magitek armor, materia, gunblades - this is how to do fan service. These are things, and things can exist in more than one place at a time. Doing it with a character like that is dumb though, and even if this was Cloud I would find it tacky. The fact that it's Lightning just makes it worse because it's clearly advertisement and I'm expected to be paying a subscription to see it.

Did she kill your puppy? You can't even watch another player with her costume? Well I guess everyone has their priorities.

I can and will ignore the quest but i can't ignore groups of people running around in Lightning's costume. It's not only that i don't like Lightning's design but its inclusion is tacky and it will (sometimes) break my immersion in the game.
Imagine if they release other costumes from characters from every previous FF entry and people run around in Tidus,Vaan's,Tifa's etc costumes. It would be ridiculous to say the least and it would ruin the lore of FFXIV's world.

FFXIII fanboys need to take off their pink colored glasses for once and judge the situation as it is.

I'm not going to keep repeating myself to respond to quips and people who aren't bothered by it. That's fine if you aren't, but there are legitimate reasons not to like this. Just reread your post that I was responding to. It cheapens the game and its lore, it's not about not liking her specifically.

Nobody cared when Cloud and/or Basch were shoehorned into Final Fantasy Tactics.

Cloud was redesigned to look and feel like he belonged in that world. He was also only their for an extremely short amount of time.

Basch wasn't in Tactics, it was Balthier, and given he is from Ivalice it makes sense for him to be in that world.

Is it really that different from other fanservice stuff in the game, like the Crystal Tower or Magitek armor or any of the other stuff that clearly doesn't fit but is being included for the sake of fans?

This reminds when they said they would be introducing the ability to Jump in the game. People lost their minds. 6 months later they were over it.

Not at all. It's just for me at least, it's Lightning. How about we drop her in favor of characters that don't get in a new game almost once a year for the last five.

I'm not so bothered by the costume as I am bothered by the precedent of including a character from another FF game that really doesn't fit into the lore. It kind of weakens how serious they are going to take the lore of the world and also could lead to even more inclusions of other characters which I feel doesn't really fit into the world of XIV. I'll be cautious about it but it won't make me cancel my pre-order.

But there are no other characters, it's just Lightning and Yoshida is a wise man, the game has already other fanservice stuffs. And you shouldn't call people who disagree with you FFXIII fanboys just because they don't mind her as a character. You know I can do that too: FFXIII haters need to take off their black colored glasses for once and judge the situation as it is.
