Hold on. Isn't Major Nelson basically a MS PR employee or did I miss something?

Because promoting the damn thing it's supposed to be his job, no?

Doesn't really matter this guy could give hookers and piles of blow by the shovel full and it wouldn't make one bit of difference since he's a Microsoft spokes person on gaming.

What does this have to do with anything?

Ah, another thread full of people bashing someone for doing their job.

PR or not (it is), there is some neat/good info in there.

The trolling is strong in this one.

Oh no, he posted something about Xbox on his Xbox Blog and on the news site dedicated to Xbox News, Xbox Wire. Let's all make fun of him!!!!

Xbox Live Multiplayer on Xbox One
You’ve told us that Xbox Live is the best service for online multiplayer gaming

I never said anything of the sort!

All I currently get is abuse and I'm tired of it, fingers crossed these new featres for enforcement work.

I've seen this exact tidbit of PR mentioned several times. Who exactly is waiting for a match for more than a few seconds to a minute, let alone long enough to get back to a movie/TV. I can't think of any game that wasn't totally dead where this would be even remotely useful.

EDIT: I should mention, most of this looks good, this specific point keeps irritating me though.

Yeah, for popular games you shouldn't really need asynchronous matchmaking, but for older or less popular games this could be great.

Man the gaming side of GAF is just embarrassing. Such stupidity, ignorance and just hate. Might as well just fill in the extra letters and be done with it GAmeFaqs

I just want to know what people were expecting from a PR representative's corporate blog. People seem surprised.

I just think the wording of the title makes it look like there's any other emotion for him to have towards the product of the company he works for.

Also: template- epic skill... lol. I suppose it adds rap music and a huge-ass intro.

Thread title is misleading. Should be 'Major Nelson: Why I'm Paid to Talk Up Products From My Employer'.

Are you really implying that people here are so colossally moronic that they need to be warned that a representative of a company - one whose job is to communicate with the public, even - has an incentive to focus on the positives of their company and downplay the negatives?

Its odd that people here think that if you work for a company, you cant say anything about that company and be trusted. Where do they expect announcements to come from in the first place?

TBH though i expected more memes, gifs and one line responses. There's only been a few so i guess we can be thankful for that. It is tiring wading through all the crap to get to the real discussion posts however.

Of course he's a shill, he works for Microsoft. Were Tretton and other shills when Sony was making bad decisions? What do people expect him to say?
Uh..
Sounds like an infomercial.
Basically.

The "blog post" in the OP is clearly a press released written by a marketing department and yet it is presented as if was written personally by "Major Nelson". It even features his genuine emotion reaction! How precious.

People aren't reacting because this press release exists, people are reacting because of the conceit of its presentation.

There is nothing wrong with that article, what is going on in this thread?

Because someone who worked for MS wrote it.

However, if it was a third party source, then they would be accused of being a MS shill.

Since he works for MS, then he is an MS Shill.

If it was written by a gaming magazine, then they would be on MS's payroll.

When I'm at work I'm excited about online payroll solutions. I'm such a shill! On a side note, how funny would work be if it was like GAF?

There's an option where it can work perfectly.

They show a real life situation where XB1 just turns into the best thing ever because of all the combined elements and we say: well that's nice.

Instead we got a bland article that essentially says nothing.

There's a difference between an advertisement and insight that may come in the form of an article.

Sounds pretty interesting.

Are they still keeping TrueSkill or are they doing away with that? I found that it never really worked, so I'm hoping that this new system will be more effective for matching you with people of your skill and play-style.

And about the matchmaking thing, Smart Match, that does sound pretty interesting, however do people really want to be trying to watch a movie or a TV show while they're playing games? Seems like it'd be better to focus on one of those things than overwhelming yourself doing that many things at once.

It's more that he's a PR guy who spouts bullshit about "transistors in the clouds" and other such nonsense. If we had a nuts and bolts article from one of the Xbone's engineers then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Instead we have another disingenuous article from the man who brought us "have you seen Titanfall?".

Im surprised Major Nelson still has this job. He dosnt exactly fit the demographic anymore.. figured they would find someone younger and fresh to push xbox live next gen.

Its a round-up of new Xbox features and improvements, some of which have gotten their own press in the past week or two.

That's what PR does. This is exactly the kind of info you provide a community you're responsible with engaging.

And some of it does look new to me.

Do you really believe that? Any claims made would be pretty much met with the same responses we usually get in these threads - the standard memes, titanfall jokes, infinite power of the clouds, DRM comments and everything. Its honestly been the same way since the May reveal - any MS thread is pretty much 50% troll posts and memes. It hasnt gotten better at all.

If you've ever queued for an unpopular game mode or map in MM, it tends to take forever. Or what happens if 2 years from now I want to play some Forza 5, which won't have as big of a community? Hell, I recently played Shadowrun which came out in 2007. It still has people playing on 360 too. However, to get into a match in decent time you have to do a quick match, but what if I really only wanted to play a certain map? Then I could queue for it, and switch and play a few rounds of Poker Night at the Inventory or something.

Plus, they allow you to have more filters on your MM search, which will make it take longer. For example, let's say you want to play Call of Duty with only people who are in their 30's, speak English and want to play on map X with game mode Y (and now you're also no longer matchmade with people who have "bad" reputations). The more specific you get, the longer your match will generally take to find.

In the best case, MM is damn near instant, but if you only like to play a certain mode, then this makes it easier. Plus, we all know sometimes MM just takes forever (I play Dota 2 a lot, even though that's the #1 played on Steam it's not uncommon to have 4-5 minute matchmaking waits).

Another benefit is that if you're watching Netflix, I log in, invite you to a party to play some Halo 5, I can queue us up without you ever leaving your show. When the match is found, you accept and it brings you straight into the match without ever going into a menu yourself (I would do that as the party leader, or would queue it up from Smartglass).

I'm always going to be in the 'casual play area' the 'competitive, veteran area' sounds like my butt would get whurped

Nothing new to you? Then don't post in the thread. I wasn't aware of the challenges and the enhanced reputation and enforcement. You knew about the beta for it?

oh sorry that it didn't look worthwhile as a point to me. Maybe it's a big thing to be a vigilante for XBL for its users though.
