(If you are) Why are you getting a PS4?

It's not a catch 22 but those just seem like bad reasons. If something was cheap and simply had no negatives (which are not positives, just the lack of negatives) then it would seem like there is no NEED to buy it.

I want to get to why people feel they must get it day 1. That is all.

Sorry, man. That is just a bullshit argument.... it is like asking me to explain why I don't want a prostate exam, but I am not allowed to mention the finger in my ass.

I will eventually get a PS4 because it will inevitably get support from the JP devs I care about.

But seeing how a majority of those devs will likely stick with the PS3 for awhile? I'll jump when they jump.

Main reason I'm getting one day one, in addition to Xbone, is because I suspect that multiplats will look/perform better on PS4. If it wasn't for that, I would get a PS4 later on in the gen when must-have exclusives arrive (looking at you, Naughty Dog).

For me it's not about supporting Sony because of price. It's about supporting a platform that is dedicated to gamers, that understands variety and that pushes creativity in all genres, understands art styles, invests in first party development, supports its systems for a long time and respects consumers the best they can.

I know i can't go wrong with a PS4, it has a lot of games, it has the best first party developers in the world, it has a controller that i really like, it has the Japanese support, it has a history of supporting its systems long after they release unlike MS who seems to no give that much shit about their system after 3-4 years and pumps up only the ones that sell... *cough* Gears, *cough* Halo, *cough* Fable, *cough* Forza...

Giving my money all to MS would be encouraging a company to make a console with shooters and western games as it's main genre, paywalls, a camera that i don't care about much and dlc exclusives... i've had enough of that shit this gen, i want something different, PS4 is that console to me.

-The price
-Playing third party games with superior version this year (BF4, AC4, Watch Dogs...)
-Amazing games from Sony studios (Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, Quantic Dream, Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital, Sucker Punch etc etc etc)
-PS+ value
-Remote play with Vita
-streaming and sharing videos
-Dualshock quality
-Cloud gaming with GAIKAI

Because Sony's focus on indie developers, unique games, developers and gamers really appeals to me. Sony WWS is home to some of the most talented studios out there (Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games) and the games they have shown me so far look great. Killzone looks fenomenal and is my number one anticipated launch title. Infamous Second Son seems to be taking everything fun about Infamous and making it better. I also love the smaller titles like Rime.

The more interesting question would be; Why are you not getting a PS4?

Perfectly reasonable, but why? There must be something that takes your interest?

Nah. I have barely used my PS3, I don't like indie games, I have grown to hate Naughty Dog and I think the UI and online are a complete and utter mess on PSN.

So I have no idea why everyone is so hyped aside from negatives brought up about the Xbox One. Hence the thread and the way it is stated.

In the long run I trust Sony to have good games.

As for launch I just want something new since its been 7 years. Plus there are enough games that are interesting me, Killzone and Driveclub being the main two.

Plenty of Indie games, thus a great variety in games from day one.

Also the track record of Sony first party games.

Regarding the hardware, I like those small touches like bluetooth headset support and replaceable HDD.

Basically, I wanted a better PS3, and that's exactly what Sony are offering.

If anything..as a minimal gamer, you can still enjoy your ps4 without ps+ but the xboxone is a brick without live. Also MS is not a company I can trust. So much back pedaling and they seem to lack focus. Look at windows 8, they took out the start button for no good reason only to bring it back in w8.1; look at windows RT, look at windows phone 7 that was just abandoned; look at microsoft courier; look at the zune...so much more. I don't think I can trust MS with my gaming pleasures for the next 5+ years

At launch it will be nothing but a Battlefield 4 machine for me. And I'm okay with that.

But there are so many great looking games on the horizon. Galak-Z, Rime, The Witness, Mercenary Kings, Infamous -- just to name a few. And those are just the currently announced ones!

Comes out on my birthday, so I'll share that date with the PS4, GCN, OG Xbox, and Live.
PS+ is a better value than gold has ever been.
My Vita can be used for remote play, so I'm stoked about that.
It's a brickhouse on the spec sheet.
Most of my "online acquaintances" are switching from MS to Sony, I go where my group goes for multiplatform games.

Mind you this is coming from somebody who has a big 10 on his gamertag from having Live that long. I'd love it if MS had the better system for me, but facts are facts.

Edit: DEM JAPANESE GAMS!

I can't make you write one thing or the other, so go nuts. I just want to hear the positives you feel are a part of the PS4.

If you want to bring up negatives of the Xbox One, have at it.

Because I own a decent computer and i always found the playstation + PC combo to be the best combo. Great first party exclusives and usually the xbox games i want (i.e titanfall) also come out on PC.

  • Sony's 1st party offering appeals to me more.
  • Vita remote play (I'll get a Vita at the same time as getting a PS4)
  • I already have a PC.

It has the launch exclusives I want
Most powerful console hardware
Interesting, unique exclusives coming next year (Rapture, Rimo etc)
Playstation Plus will continue to be fantastic
Sony have knocked it out of the park when it comes to first party AAA and they will probably continue to do so
Have you seen Infamous?
Sony didn't try to bend gamers over a barrel

I now use PC as my main gaming, and I need a console.

PS4 because:

It seem to be the best console.

Microsoft could go back to a DRM plan.

Sony games.

They aren't forcing PS+ down my throat, I can live comfortably without it. No big features or apps will be locked away other than online MP.

If I do get PS+ it's the best deal anyway, I don't need a lot of random games though.
It's small.

I always liked the DS.

I need a DS4 for my PC so 2 birds.

I want to get to why people feel they must get it day 1. That is all.

I don't need it day 1. I might get it later. No rush for me, I'm probably growing out of gaming. I'm getting old.

I'm not getting a PS4 right away because honestly there is not one first party game that seriously interests me but I know there will be in the future. The only game I am kind of interested in is Knack and I just can't get a solid feel if that game is going to satisfy my 3D platformer love or if it is shallow and boring. I think I will be picking up an XB1 sooner just because there are games announced already that I know I want (Halo, TitanFall, Sunset Overdrive, etc.)

Because it has better support from japanese developers. And I already own a PC and a WiiU. I'll be missing out on the least amount of games that way.
I only hope that the controller is more ergonomic. Because the PS3 controller gave me cramps. I'll find out tomorrow at gamescom.

I have essentially been PC-only this entire generation, but Sony's output has truly impressed me.

I will be picking up a PS3 very soon to play the amazing exclusives that I missed out on, and will probably be picking up a PS4 around 2015/2016 when it has amassed enough exclusives.

Microsoft, on the other hand, hasn't impressed me very much with their output. PC + Xbox 360/XB1 seems redundant at best, and the vast majority of their exclusives I would prefer to play with M/KB anyways.

I tend to get all the new hardware at launch. PS4 is no different.

Not so crazy about the launch games but checking out the hardware is interesting enough to me.

I love the indie focus (I don't own a PC), Sony's first party, and Playstation Plus. Multiplatform games will theoretically look better this time around. I own a Vita, too, so it's a no-brainer for me.

It's also $400.

Full disclosure: I am getting an Xbox One day 1 and have no interest in the PS4.

Haha, ok I'll bite MS Minion:

-Better history of first party games
-Its more powerful than its direct competitor
-Indie Games tickle my fancy
-PS Plus is the best service for a gaming console.
-My friends overseas can own one at the same time I can (so I can continue playing games with them)

**Rumblings of third party games performing better on it are also good news to me.

No idea? None? Zero?

Sony's exclusives first-party games. I regret missing out on the PS3 and got burned on the 360 (in the last few years). Not letting that happen again. Plus MS' exclusives just aren't doing it for me anymore.

More than 6 years support
Focus on new experiences. Dont care much for dudebro games
Smaller and more powerfull than xbox one
Naughty Dog
Mediamolecule
Preferred stick placement
Rime, FFXV, Infamous second son, That game by those that made stardust

Main Reason for me is I plan to play Final Fantasy XIV: ARR and it's only for the PC and PS3 and will be on the PS4 in early 2014, I'll be playing for a few months on my PS3 and I can transfer my account when it comes to the PS4.

I also own a PS Vita and look forward to remote play and cross-play / cross-buy.

Because Sony hardly disappoints me with their first party lineup.
Edit: And they've been trying hard to get things right with this new console, I gotta support their guts.

Because Sony has always been great bet.
Japanese licensed anime Bandai games.
I like Sony IPs (Only imagine those Next Naughty Dog games) they usually create new franchises. Who could imagine uncharted before PS3, who could imagine God of War before PS2, what will be the next?. Their studios are not just hq graphics, it's all about art style, something it's more valuable for me than put here your random last graphic card tech.
I'm ok with visuals offered by their time console generation not need to spend a 1800€ workstation pc. (Cannot wait to play The Witcher 3 on PS4).
I'm still afraid with all that indie love by Sony (Vita its diggin its own grave with that policy).

I'm getting a PS4 day one because I like the look of some of the exclusives they have coming, I know that 90% of the games will be multiplat regardless, and if I'm going to buy one eventually, why not hop into the new generation day 1 and witness it all? I waited a year with PS2, I waited six months with 360, and I'm at a point in my life where if I can budget for it I can buy a $400 console on release.

Because the games I want are there (Galak-Z, Transistor, The Order). Because they're not forcing me to get a peripheral I do not need. Because my friends game on PS. Because I have a Vita and am excited for remote play. Because the console is sexy as fuck. Because symmetrical sticks. Because my PS+ is set through 12/14. Because I like their first party games, a lot. Because JRPGs.
