(If you are) Why are you getting a PS4?

More exclusives that were announced appeal to me.

I have not had a good experience with any microsoft hardware in the past

I prefer the playstation controller design over the X-box.

I think that playstation plus offers more bang for my buck.

Cross play with the vita is such a cool idea

I understand you asked us not to mention price (I haven't a clue why) but that is a huge deciding factor for me as well.

That isn't to say I won't purchase an xbone in the future, but as of right now, I prefer what Sony is offering.

Sony's 1st party exclusives on the PS3 were great, and it seems that will continue on the PS4. Second Son currently looks better than any other next gen exclusive, Wii U stuff included.

I also have a wide variety of taste. Western games, Japanese games, AAA, mid-tier, indie, and all types of genres. The PS4 will likely be the only platform (PC included) to get the best of all worlds.

So far I'm getting it for:

DriveClub, Killzone Shadowfall, Rime, The Order 1886, The Witness, Destiny, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Hohokum, Resogun, Dust 514 and War Thunder. Not to mention a bunch of indies I plan on double dipping (PC/PS4) on.

I prefer the games on Playstation as apposed to Xbox.

Apart from XBLA games (because i have no idea about them) the only game that interested me on 360 was Gears of War, no joke, the only game.

It'll have better Japan support. Also, indies. AND third and first party. And Vita remote play. And PS+.

It have so many things it's not even funny.

Great first party titles, Sony has had a very good track record since recovering from the PS3's launch. Preferred controller. Like the current management.

Nah. I have barely used my PS3, I don't like indie games, I have grown to hate Naughty Dog and I think the UI and online are a complete and utter mess on PSN.

So I have no idea why everyone is so hyped aside from negatives brought up about the Xbox One. Hence the thread and the way it is stated.

So do you more fully understand now that everybody's given a cornucopia of reasons?

Also, I have to wonder, given the wide variety of genres indie games cover, what kinda of games DO you like?

Coming off the back of the Last of Us, I can get behind Sony's gaming direction, rather than Microsoft's.

I also like think Sony is managing the launch of the ps4 far better than Microsoft is managing the launch of the Xbone.

Anything I can criticize Sony for, seems to be also something I can criticize Microsoft for. For example:
1, Charging for online multi-player.
2. And for not creating a vastly more powerful machine.

And when it comes to the games, I'm not really interested in Killer Instinct, nor Killzone, which looks like more of the same but slightly better. Forza looks cool, and probably the only game that will get in the 90+ metacritic area. Knack looks dull. The Order 1886 looks the most interesting, but have not seen any gameplay for it.

So at this moment, next gen games aren't all what they seemed to be hyped up to be. In fact, the games I want most this fall, are games that can played on any of the machines [technically speaking [performance wise]], though some are obviously exclusives], whether that be console or pc. They are:

* Resogun
* Rime
* Everyone's gone to the Rapture
* GTA V
* Fifa
* GT6
+ couple of others that I can't recall just this moment.

That's about £150 worth of stuff without buying stuff I've yet to play, that already came out this year.

I'm going to be buying ps4, if available, this year. Xbone - post price cut, maybe two price cuts, and spend that £400 on games.

Are all your friends getting one because all your friends will have one? Honestly, your reasons are just a lot less compelling than the reasons others have brought forth for the PS4, especially someone who is getting the XB1 day one and has no interest in the PS4.

We play COD each and every day for hours at a time as a group. We all want the best COD experience possible and that is on an Xbox One (better graphics than 360. DLC before PC, which they don't have gaming capable ones anyway). So the "my friends will have it" is shorthand for "we play COD habitually as a clan and will only play it together."

1. On paper, it appears to be the more powerful of the two.
2. Killzone is the only first party launch title of any platform that intrigues me, and I can see myself playing.
3. Naughty Dog
4. Indie support is through the roof, and half of my purchases on day 1 will be on the PSN store, supporting those titles.
5. Did I mention Naughty Dog?
6. Cheaper price point (although, the $100 difference wouldn't bother me if I was on the other side of the fence).
7. With PlayStation, the word "exclusive" is more genuine than when Microsoft says it. Sony doesn't need timed exclusive, third party games to support their console. They have a huge stable of first party studios they can rely on. Titanfall will come to PS4 after 6 months to a year.
8. The User Interface looks great.
9. PSN - That's where literally ALL of my friends are.
10. Trophies. I have too many of them to switch consoles now.

But most importantly, 11.

The PS3 launch was a nightmare, and Sony looked to be in a predicament they would never recover from. But they did, and the PS3 today is a much more fun, and enticing console than it was in 2006 - by light years. So, when I buy a PS4, I know that it can only go uphill from there.

And I just have current gen fatigue. I always early adopt when it comes to Playstation.

Not a Jellyfish

but I am a sheep
I have four brothers, the three that play video games all had PS3s and have already preordered a PS4.

We are between the age of 22 and 30 so naturally we are all spread out, are busy, and some have families, getting a PS4 lets me talk to them and play games with them still.

- My friends will also have Titanfall on the Xbox One so I will be playing it there.

Fair enough, but couldn't you convince them to get it on the PC or 360 instead? It would probably be cheaper for all of you.

- That is not always true. For instance, Cove is probably the best map in Black Ops 2.

Black Ops 2 suffers from horrible, linear, and clustered map design. That's therefore not saying much, and even if it did, it would be an exception that proves the rule.

- I love the idea of using Skype snapped onto the side of my screen while watching events like football games or UFC "with" my brother, friends, etc. (Obviously this could be accomplished with other devices but I like the way it is done simply in one device.)

Bring your laptop (or even your phone) into your room and start Skyping. You can now Skype while watching a TV program. Also, assuming you can't just use your TV as usual, PS4 has multimedia services too, even though they're understated.

It's substantially more powerful on close-to-peer architectures (which has never happened in the history of gaming, to my knowledge), so third party games (99%+ of what I play) will run better on the PS4.

This is the same reason to why the 360 was my platform of choice this gen, BTW.

  • Vanillaware's next game will almost certainly be PS4/Vita exclusive and I want to be ready for that (even though it will probably be 2017 by the time they release a new game).
  • Naughty Dog.
  • I'd much prefer to play Hotline Miami 2 and Rogue Legacy on my PS4 than my PC.
  • The PS4 is impossibly small and I'm limited on shelf space in my entertainment center.
  • Better system specs than the Xbox One.
  • Titanfall is the only Microsoft exclusive I want, and I'll hang onto my 360 for that.
  • The DualShock4 is the best controller I've ever held, and I've held the Xbox One controller.

- I'm done playing games on PS3/360 specs
- I don't want to upgrade my PC right now (and I prefer the console experience)
- I am ready for new gameplay experiences provided by revamped online, graphics, physics, AI, etc.

So do you more fully understand now that everybody's given a cornucopia of reasons?

Yeah. It seems to come down to genre preference.

I am all about the CODs and Titanfalls of the world and the TV functionality while everyone who seems to be in for a PS4 day one is in not (gross generalization but you get the drift).

Honestly 1st party and indie games. No DRM, not heavily focused on just shooters.

I'm much more into travel these days and being active so I don't have much time to play, so the indie games they announced and continue to come out with greatly appeal to me and the amount of time I usually have to game.

- PS+ is the best deal in gaming ever.
- I have a Vita, remote play does not look like total ass this time around
- I prefer Uncharted, Infamous, anything Quantic Dream and Gran Turismo over Halo, Gears, Forza and Fable
- Sony's policies seem more reasonable (3rd party headsets, region free, G25 support, multimedia features not behind a paywall, use standard hard drives, etc.)
- Great Indie support, even during the current generation. Nobody else would've dared to put something like flower out
- Japanese support, leading to more diversity
- Love the share button and the mentality behind it (ask Nintendo how they handle Let's plays)
- The feel of a dedicated gaming machine
- YOSP <3

Oh I also forgot to add that I want the absolute best looking, best performing versions of third party games a console gamer can get. So I'm getting a PS4.

1st party studios and potential Japanese games (mainly RPGs) coming to the system in the future. PS+ is also a great deal and has given me tons of free games and discounts. Sticking with it and the games I already have seems like a smart move.

- Friends getting PS4s
- Prefer gaming on a dualshock, and DS4 looks like it's going to be a great controller.
- PS+ instant games collection and deals
- I have a gaming PC but I want a next-gen console for non-PC titles, though I'm hoping more and more developers start making PC games, now that even some of the less major Japanese developers are doing it.
- I like the gamer-focused direction Sony has been going. They may be going a bit too heavy into the indies at the moment, but indie games have shorter development times so it seems like a great thing to advertise pre-launch.
- More likely to have Japanese titles on it
- Hardware seems quite great, even surprised as a PC gamer.
- Prefer the exclusives in general
- While I expect third party titles to not have as big of differences next-gen, if a developer puts in the extra effort to utilize the hardware of the PS4, multi-plats are more likely to be better.
- Having people like Yoshida and Mark Cerny be figure heads for the system gives me a lot of confidence for it too. Andrew House seems like a respectable person as well. Sony has certainly had some bizarre people representing their brand in the past.

I plan to get a XB1 in a few years down the line, will likely be able to pick up whatever exclusives I want then for cheap too.

And first party games.

I have a PC to play multiplats, it's all about the first party.

Is that really true? Go look at the pre-order numbers for CODG. Its preorders for the PS4 are greater than those for the XBone.

Killzone SF and Planetside 2 also look to be top-of-the-line shooters, and they are PS4 exclusive. I am personally looking forward to Planetside 2 more than anything else.

I'm tired of this gen and I believe Sony will keep true to the gamer next gen. They have ND and the value from PS+ is incredible. PS4 is the better value package overall

So why are you picking up Sony's next console?

Two caveats:

1. Don't mention price.
2. Don't mention negatives about any other platform.

Just give me the positives of the PS4.

Full disclosure: I am getting an Xbox One day 1 and have no interest in the PS4 but want to hear the positives about it from those who are getting it.

- I've had enough of the current consoles and want something new
- that new tech buzz
- most powerful = more potential (whether tapped or not is a separate matter)
- I like Sony published games, both big and small. From uncharted and motorstorm, to unfinished swan and flower, they've provided a really broad range of software
- the support Sony have given PS1, PS2 and PS3 gives me confidence that I will get great software support from them for the full 5-7 years that I have a PS4
- I have a vita and will use remote play a lot as I have a family fighting for the lounge TV
- although I have a gaming PC I tend to get analysis paralysis with settings and tweaking (I'm getting better). So even if PS4 gets slightly less pretty versions than PC, the lack of tweaking is - for me at least - a benefit

1) I'm a huge fan of Sony's first party studios. In my opinion, they have a stable of the best developers in the industry, and they actually give them the freedom to create some compelling, quality games.

That's the only reason I need, honestly.

Some additional ones, that are more like bonuses:

2) PS+. I'm so, so glad I signed up for this service back in the day. I have no reason to ever unsubscribe, because I've gotten more than my money's worth.

3) PS Vita. By itself, it's a fantastic handheld. Paired with the Vita, it's still a fantastic handheld, but can now supplement, and, ideally, improve my PS4 experience.

4) Other bonuses like Netflix, Hulu, etc, that aren't hidden behind paywalls (although, I imagine that if they were, it'd be tied to PS+, which I have anyway, so it wouldn't be a big deal for me, personally).

The games are going to be incredible. I really enjoyed my ps3 and so I'll be jumping in day 1. You can't beat ps plus. It's too good.

Killzone looks insane.

I dunno man, there's been a lot more mentioned than game genre preference. Studio support, UI, console specs, console size, PS+, Vita support/crossplay/crossbuy/remote play, accessible back catalogs, no camera requirements, etc.

Not at launch, but later in 2014.

Reason: Quantic Dream, Naughty Dog, apps are not behind a paywall and a little bit of tradition too I suppose, since everyone else is getting a PS4 as well. Not interested in MP gaming at all.

-Most powerful console on the market.
-because of that I expect multiplatform games to look and run better on it.
-controller looks great
-incredible first party studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, and Polyphony Digital.
-The Order: 1886 looks really cool.
-I've got to play the next Uncharted.

I want the best version. The Xbox One version will, without doubt, be that version. The game is huge and will sell well across consoles but I want better graphics and the DLC as soon as possible. I would never even consider waiting a month for it to come to PS4.

The general public probably has zero clue that is even the case but I do and it effects my decision immensely.
