Forza Motorsport 5 at gamescom - Spa confirmed

Wow, trolls are out in full force today indeed...

Anyway I did some research on the laser scanning company who supposedly scanned tracks for Turn 10 as I wanted to know how some had found other tracks scanned. There are videos of scanned Yas Marina and pacific Raceway, photos of the in-progress scanning of Long Beach as well as a picture of the result in cloud point data. They also talk about a mobile rig which they seem to have developed for a racing game developer client which cuts time spent scanning a racetrack from several days to several hours. On a photo of this rig, you can see red and yellow rumble stripes, similar to those in Spa since they made it all Shell themed.

What Forza 5 is doing right (too me)
- laser scanned tracks!
- 1080p/60fps (the choir is singing)
- Open wheelers!

What they're messing up:
- Not supporting FM4 wheels. I'm sure this is a Microsoft thing.
- Graphics look great! But so does FM 4. Not looking like a huge step forward.
- Can we host lobbies like we could in GT5??

Unfortunately I decided not to preorder based on not announcing steering wheel support. I refuse to play with a controller. Not sure who's the blame (Turn 10 or Microsoft, probably MS though) but its very lame. My money will be GT6 bound instead. And I'll continue to do my primary racing on PC where I dont have to worry bout my steering wheel being supported

Exactly it's a dynamic cube map, but it's not actually realtime reflections. In Forza they mirror the screen on the hood map, and you get cars reflecting even though it's not really realtime reflections, in 3rd person view//other cars you get what seems to be a global map. In GT5 they use dynamic cube maps for all situations and all cars. Neither have actual realtime reflections.

Pretty sure Forza5 has dynamic cube maps as it did in previous games (at least for the player's car), and though some elements may be missing in the generated cubemap, it actually reflects moving objects in real-time like helicopters as seen here and here (this one is kinda cool cos the helicopter is actually behind, off camera)

Did you find anything Bathurst related?

Long Beach, Monza, Yas Marina....no Mount Panorama?
Surely Turn 10 aren't going to exclude one of the most requested tracks in Forza?
Nah, they don't have the guts..

You mean if he found something like this:

Bathurst, NSW Australia - Complete surface imaging of the Bathurst Formula One Circuit

Where was the BADNET quote from?

It can easily be found, it's from the company's website. They also say on there that they did 9 miles of imaging in historic Prague.
I just hope that all those tracks are for FM5 and that they won't wait for FM6/7 to release them.
Just the idea of finally having Spahurst in the game, and laser scanned in addition to that...

Edit : I found more. They did scan Spa and they went to Silverstone as well. And it looks like we'll be getting the new layout of Silverstone without any old bridge section as they haven't scanned it.

You've massively redeemed yourself with this post and I'm gonna have to take you off ignore.

To be fair, it seems after your recent 'return' you've matured a bit as well.

Well done.

Loving just today's news tid bits.

Whilst I'm here, how many new tracks can we realistically expect from F5, the only thing I'm not looking forward to is driving the same track for the thousandth time, be it 1080p whatever, I've done it a millions times now and need more tracks.

Also, what's the chances of Bernese Alps being in?

Kahnbodgd, Mongolia - Hoist house and deep shaft survey of the Oyo Tolgoi Copper Mine
Bathurst, NSW Australia - Complete surface imaging of the Bathurst Formula One Circuit
Abu Dhabi, UAE - Yas Marina Circuit and facilities (Static and Kinematic Imaging)
Port of Spain, Trinidad - Onshore and offshore asset integrity surveys (petrochemical)

Sources are here (Pacific Raceway, Spa, Yas Marina and Silverstone scanning), here (Prague, Yas marina and Bathurst scanned) and here (Yas Marina, Long Beach scanning).

Edit : And Monza is obviously from the video posted a while back.
