If the customer service reps are starting the 15th for the launch then the launch is almost certainly the following week. Not sure how much training they'd get, but a coupe of days I'd think.

A simultaneous launch with ps4 would be stupid, and a really annoying hassle for retailers and consumers.

Oh this makes sense, 22nd and gradually build up Black Friday hype through the week?

They'll obviously hold back inventory for that day.

Remember, he only said they are called in on November 15th. The date could still be later than that. My money is on November 22st.

For who, if both are doing it :p

Then for both? Just like if they both had invested in Rift support, it wouldn't cease to be gamechanging because they would both be doing it. This fanboy shit is so 1990.

Anyway, thanks CBOAT! You're posting more frequently and while we appreciate it please be careful.

Right. If we knew when they were being briefed and trained we could narrow it down better, but for all we know they're being called in on the 15th to start getting ready. Either way we know it shouldn't be before the 15th and any info helps.

I thought you you were killed by MS ninjas or even worse, getting waterboarded by MS and NSA

He barely escaped last time. Right now, heavily armed members of the Microsoft special task force are en route to CBOAT's hideout. He's frantically backing up all of his data onto a portable hard drive and wiping his computers. It'll be a close call this time. If we don't hear back from him... *swallows* then we'll know what happened.

Simultaneous would also be a bit dangerous. Like 2 rival gangs meeting in the same building, but world wide for midnight release.

There's probably going to be a catch: like online mode is disabled in pre-owned versions.

Would not count on anything online being disabled this gen for any reason...

Too much after market money and too much invested in the games being connected

Someone explain to me what a used digital game would be and why you'd ever buy a new digital game if a used digital game is the exact same thing but cheaper.

Someone mentioned that you wouldn't likely be selling it back to MS, but selling it among other members in the marketplace, putting the game in a very limited supply. Part of the money on each transaction would probably go to the publishers, Microsoft, and (hopefully) devs. If implemented correctly, this could be a game changing goldmine.

If MS pushes the trading, selling, and buying of used digital games then it will completely make up for their previous transgressions. This is absolutely groundbreaking stuff if true.

It sounds to me like that survey was probably from a 3rd party. It mentions both Xbox Live and Playstation Plus. It has already been confirmed by cboat and Wario 64 to be from a survey, and not an approved policy by either Sony or Microsoft.

Someone is being a middle man here, and sending out a survey to those "in the know" to gauge interest in such a policy, the ability to trade in your digital games or buy them "used." I think we know who DIDN"T send out that Survey, GAMESTOP!!!

Sounds to me it would be like a user to user system, using real currency. So you wouldn't be able to buy a used digital game, unless someone had it for sale. Then the publishers/console makers will collect a fee, similar to Ebay.

I hope it works this way. Money from used digital games going to devs would be great.

Oh man. CBoaT threads are the best threads.

If it did release the 15th, the midnight launch would be the most terrifying and beautiful thing I'd ever live to see. I doubt it would ever happen though.

Can´t help to think how will you exactly set value to a digital used game. Sounds stupid.

Loaning games sounds more realistic than this.

Maybe the seller sets the price, Sony/Microsoft and the games Publisher/Devs get a cut.

Kinda like an open marketplace like eBay. The market will basically set the price, meaning, what people are willing to pay will set what people ask to sell digital games for.

Unless gamestop sees the writing on the wall for the next ten_twenty and is getting in on the digital used market by running the infrastructure?

Yes agreed it is a user availability system but someone will make money on all transactions, allegedly console makers, pubs, devs from a cut the seller gives up like ebay

Yeah it seems that the publishers are ready to get rid of the middle man in game trade ins.

If both consoles launched on the same day, the ensuing street fight would look something like this

One final re-post for the new page,

TRANSLATION:

Back home now. Yay! >_<

Apologies for the late October no show for the PS4. I heard it was that date, but Sony is not my strong suite. It happens. Call 1-800-BUT-OCXS for a refund of your money. ;)

Seriously I am sorry though.

Xbox November 8th hahaha... no.
Saw Kotaku article and then their retraction. That's ok I could have told them November 8 was a pipe dream. I know Microsoft better than SCEA.

* Xbox One customer service reps are being called in for November 15th.
* These are customer service reps not actually working for MS. Hardly any of them do.
* New CS software implemented for November 15th w/ support for taxonomy for Xbox One.
* Called "Assisted Support Desktop."
* Anti-Phishing stuff in to make it hard for Nigerian Ukranian Russian princes to call about account info that not theirs but if customer doesn't have e-mail or a phone number associated with account, Xbox One reps will have tghe power to tell the call to fuck off.
* I wish I had some talked to some Sony CS reps 3 weeks ago. Oh well!

Do you want to sell your digital games? OH NO I ONLY REPORT BAD NEWS FOR XBONE!

For the following questions please assume that Microsoft Xbox One will offer a digital marketplace where you can purchase and sell digital video games.

New digital marketplace where you can purchase and sell digital video games:
-This will be available through the systems’ premium subscription service (such as Xbox Live Gold/Playstation Plus)
-You will have the ability to purchase and sell pre-owned digital video games.
-You will have the ability to sell back/trade in your versions of digital games you have purchased.
-You will have the ability to buy pre-owned digital versions of games through the online marketplace.
-You will have a variety of prices and features available to purchase for pre-owned digital versions of games.
-All transactions will take place via digital downloads/transfers within your next generation gaming system’s digital store.
-New full game digital downloads will still be available, as will physical (disc) versions sold at retail stores/websites.
-Pre-owned disc versions of games will be able to be played on the next generation gaming system for free.
-There will be a marketplace service fee charged to the seller when they sell a digital version of a game.

Last thing, final word on the matter:
Get mad if you want, call me into question if you like. No sweat off my nose. My job is safe and your tender tear buckets make flowers grow.

9 years on these forums. Been here before. Reddit mad because they're shown up and I'll turn the lights off when they leave.

Why?

Simple.

I don't get paid to post.

Also, CBOAT posted again in the topic and clarified that what he posted about the digital sales stuff is not set in stone - it's a survey going around that suggests a possible direction Microsoft is looking into.

So, CS reps are getting trained on the 15th.

Nov 19 or Nov 22 launch?

Nov 26th at the latest (Tuesday before black friday)

Also, I don't understand how they could make a digital marketplace work.

Why would anyone buy a full price new digital copy of a game when they could buy a used copy? Seems like they'd lose potentially a lot of money upfront.

But who knows, maybe they make it back at the tail-end if they're taking $5-10 on every digital sale.

Yeah, hiring contractors on the same day as launch doesn't make sense, so 22nd or later.

I like the analogy with tears and using them as things they're not.

Yeah because NeoGAF and its crying over 8.8 scores and the fact i had to carefully word this post in fear of being banned is any better.

The fact that you admit the extra amount of thought you put into your post yes indeed does mean NeoGAF is superior to reddit.

Very interesting news. I still believe Cboat. Wonder how many people will still be doubtful about this post given that it's positive MS news?

To Cboat's post, that would be a pretty fascinating move, and I'm curious to know how they would attempt to implement such a system. Definitely a step in the right direction for digital rights. Some questions I would have however...

-How many times can a digital copy be sold and purchased. My initial thought is like MS's original "one transfer" policy. So only once.
-Who sets the prices on the market place? I assume it won't be the users (Just like any "trade-in" program), but will it be MS? Publishers?
-Will the prices be competitive with physical trade-ins? Or are we talking the GameStop method of $5-$10 off?
-And the culmination of all the above questions, if this is actually a good deal for consumers, why would they buy anything digital "new?" What artificial differences will be built into the "used" digital copy to continue to drive new sales? (Something like "online passes" that lock out multiplayer or something would be my guess.)

I think the baseline idea is great, even if it's just aspirational at this point. Seeing consumers getting at least the seeds of control on digital goods is a good start, and I hope it's something consumers start to demand going forward. I want to see control over digital goods across the board.

Imagine both launching on the same day. Holy Shit the NPD thread for November will be brutal, shit will be a graveyard of accounts of console warriors

Hmmm, as someone who is totally against digital, this Microsoft news is very interesting. I'd love to see it become something.

This sounds great but there´s gotta be a catch somewhere. Maybe restricted online like another gaffer mentioned a couple post back.

Maybe after buying it used you can´t sell it back.

This is really the only way they can phase out the used games market and physical copies without screwing consumers in the process. Two birds with one stone and we all win.
