Is Sony doing a mistake releasing the new Vita in Japan on the same week of Pokèmon?

Nintendo has Japan on lockdown

I still see Vita doing well globally. With all of these high profile indies, AAA Port initatives (i guess they want to continue beyond borderlands 2), PS4 Remote play, and Localizations...

It should stay relatively healthy as far as attach rate and slow but steady growth like it is now.

No idea how they can repair the situation in Japan. Its not like it doesn't have some great titles. They hit between 60-100K and drop off.

I think PSO2 has 500k+ Vita players. I dunno man. Sony not securing Monster Hunter hurt damn good. SE and Capcom seem allergic to supporting the system

What growth? Its sales in the US are a joke every month.

There's a vindictive side to me that's contemplating gathering your predictions of FFX Vita bringing new life to the platform and reposting them when the Vita SKUs are ground into dust by the PS3 version.

go ahead and do it.

You know what, I'm so confident that FFX will save the Vita that if it doesn't I will buy you a $20 PSN or eShop card code.

screencap this if you must, i am serious

1. The vita isn't dead, you guys hate hyperbole in the media yet spout it here any chance you get.

2. The vita redesign isn't for week one... the LCD will drop in price much, much faster than the OLED would.

I doubt there will be much of a bump in sales and I don't think they expect one.

Exactly. Vita could have been announced for $99 with $5 memory cards and it still would have bombed. Be smart and invest Nintendo. You'll be glad you did.

Not really, that would sell a shit ton of systems but would leave a huge dent in Sony's wallet, a loss leader I guess.

I answered "yes" before I got to the word "in".

Seriously, though, I don't think it's going to make a meaningful difference either way.

I actually bookmarked your previous post going against me. Can I get on this bet?

You should really clarify what you expect and mean by "save" because you could (and probably will) wiggle out of buying that guy a $20 PSN or eShop code..

Is it me or is the gaming market becoming too over crowded? High profile games launching the same day or close to other games and indie games. Consoles launching close to each other(within a week).

I see it kind of like how movie studios deal with releases. They choose a certain day, and if another studio thinks that they can beat them, they'll put their release date close to try and get the business. For instance, Fast and Furious...whatever number they're on..was released on the same weekend that Hangover 3 was releasing. FF won and Hangover 3 didn't do as well as it could. FF moved in the first place to avoid releasing close to ..I think Iron Man 3?

In a perfect world, having competition promotes growth. You have to gamble and bring all your cards to the table if you want to beat out your competition. Obviously that doesn't always happen, but it makes sense that they'd want to release close to or before/after other similar launches.

But releasing a revamped Vita on the same week that Pokemon comes out is dumb. No if ands or buts about that.

Monster Hunter 4 is huge on that chart for just being around for 2 days. Give it some time and it'll be the only game needed on the chart to top Vita.

I hope Vita TV turns Vita around in Japan. It sounds like a reasonable device, that is both cheap and accessible. If they release Monster Hunter 4 on it, consider the Vita on some form of life support.

Vita can't compete with 3DS, no matter when they release the new model. A delay wouldn't really do much to help it.

Did this actually work for 2ds? I wasn't paying attention.(serious)

Not sure. But 2DS will be launched alongside pokemon, not against the pokemon so there wont be a way to tell anyway

Isn't the Vita version two separate games while the Ps3 version only one? I can't see how that'd sell well.

My bad, I wasn't trying to be funny. I didn't actually mean against Pokemon but against other titles(other platforms) from what little I noticed they got quite a bit of blowback when the announced the 2ds so I was curious. But yeah, it's not even out yet so...

Gonna need some clarification here.

Define "save".
The Vita in the week of FFX release will see a great increase in sales (all models) and will outsell the 3DS for that week or so.

long term effects the Vita will "saved" and be a viable competitor to the 3DS for 2014 and beyond.

I have no clue how it will turn out but it is possible since I'd imagine FFX is way more popular than X-2 and you get it cheaper alone for Vita than getting the collection for PS3. Who knows.

Dont worry. I wasnt implying that you were trying to be funny there. I just illustrating that 2DS is a different case here due to it being the system for the mentioned major game.

I don't really see it appealing to anyone that doesn't also own a vita so even if it bumps hardware it wont do shit for software sales, in fact the ps4 remote streaming ability of vita and vita tv could in fact do a lot of harm for vita software sales in the long run anyway,

I fear you're going to be very disappointed.

I don't think it will matter to be honest...but I'd have thought they'd wait a couple more weeks just for more impact (and to push sales above 3DS for a week).

I still think Vita will be the second best selling platform in Japan this year and will do well in November/December (even if a bunch of it is due to current Vita owners doubing up and getting Vita tv).

It's getting a steady stream of core niche titles from Japanese devs regardless of 3DS destroying it in sales. Sony can always count on Japanese support regardless of poor sales (Nintendo are not so lucky in that regard).

Because of a remaster? Why on Earth would FFX make the Vita a viable competitor? It would need something on the level of Monster Hunter to even begin to make that happen.

EDIT: Also, a game that will also be available on a console with a far higher install base?

the only thing thats missing to the Vita is the killer App, and thats not gonna appear if they cant increase the playerbase, the price-cut and the 100$ whatever VitaTv is a step in the right direction, and its been shown in the past that, like any gamming system, if the games are there people will buy it, Sony just needs to ease developers concerns on the Vita/VitaTv viability as a platform, they should fork out the money for exclusives or something instead of just going after indie development.

also there are more flattering shots of the new Vita screen than that one

To me, it seems unlikely that the Vita can outsell 3ds again. Selling above a 20k baseline for a while seems like the most you could hope for.

What is with the crazy unwarranted vita hate machine.

Its not moving a lot of hardware but its for damn sure making money on software.

Both on old titles for Sony and smaller scale development.

Heck even a few AAA titles did well despite less than 2 million have been sold. It clearly doesn't need to beat 3DS to exist and I am glad it does

There is plenty of great software still coming to what is pretty much a niche device and im sure glad to own one.

Bottom Line. Devs are making money on the device and it clearly has a small but cool role to play in the future. Its sad that people arent paying attention to all the cool things in the works in the vita space and thats a damn shame.
