PS4 UI 16 minute video

I can't really see much in the low resolution video posted above, but what I can see looks promising. Looks speedy, which is what I want. Looks like they've retained quite a bit of the XMB, which is awesome.

If someone finds a non-private version of the video, please post it. Thanks from the rest of the masses who are desperate for UI news ;)

Right, because 'it's terrible' isn't an opinion.

It's kind of like calling the color red 'green' and pass that off as an opinion. Based on this video, you can objectively conclude that the GUI is fast, easily navigated, and with very little visual noise. The GUI is clearly designed for speed and ease of use and does this well.

So no. "it's terrible" is not an opinion. "I think it's terrible" is. A shitty one at that, but hey, like assholes, right ?

Sweetness.

Still looking better than Xbone UI, unsurprisingly.

No, it's really not. Hopefully it's still customizable like the PS3 one with folders and such. Demos and DLC was great to split up into those when searching for stuff. The Xbox UI, if not for the ads, is pretty well done. It's just that they take up most of the space with "recommendations".

There was a marked difference between the xbox one dev box UI and the latest reveal, so I'm reserving judgement on this until Sony show us what the retail UI looks like.

I feel the exact same way i'm only getting Ps4 at launch but xbone UI and features seem more impressive to me as well

Same.

I started digging the XMB a lot more when I got my hands on an Uncharted theme so hopefully that helps on PS4, but honestly it's still pretty boring to navigate on PS3 and it took me a while to discover little features on the console because it didn't feel like there was any incentive to explore it. It's basically just a tool rather than an additional experience that gives the console some character. I get that plenty of people are satisfied with it just being a navigation tool and that's fine, but when I'm being told that "Greatness Awaits" I'd kind of like to see a little more thought being put into the entire experience, not just the stunning games. I want to be blown away from start to finish. From what they've shown so far it's just kind of bland and makes me want to load up a game right away instead of checking things out.

If I can switch the PS4 on with the PS button on the controller, and then get back to whatever game I was playing before by simply pressing X, then I'll be happy.

It looks functional, but I much prefer the look and flow of the X1's UI.

Its to be expected though with Microsoft making a big push with ''3 OS's'' and Microsoft being one of the best software companies with some of the most talented software people.

I'm going PS4 because of the specs and it will be my console and not the family one. And I'm sure the games will look better and run better so I'm cool. Buuuuut I really think that the impact of walking into a room saying "Xbox on" and it turns your tv dvr cable box on with the voice and motion navigation is going to be strong. It seems readily next gen as compared to games where they already look like movies and real sports on tv on current gen. I think the feature set of the xbone will be easier to market and catch on with a wider audience. That $500 price tag though is ugh. I really think MS figured if Apple could charge ridiculous amounts for ipads and iphones they could get away with a $500 dollar console. Focusing on the enemies that might be and left the door open for the enemy that is.

Provided it all works as advertised.

Simple and clean.
This is fast.

Saw this, too last night and got excited. After watching it a few times it seems as though it isn't what you think, unless I'm seeing incorrectly (Which could be possible given quality of video). A few seconds before it actually jumps into KNACK, the user opens up the menu from the KNACK icon. He must've pressed PLAY then because a little "loading circle" can be seen rotating on the bottom left of the KNACK icon square and then just happens to launch as he scrolls back over the KNACK icon.

A little disappointed now... I almost jizzed when I thought it was a ridiculous fast game launch

To elaborate a little more I think everything looks more tucked away in menus which makes it look like it is not as feature rich as X1's OS. I like how in the X1's OS everything is just there any readily apparent.

I have to say the Xbone UI looks more interesting, that doesn't look like it will translate into functionality though. The PS4 UI looks quick and efficient, and pretty when it needs to.

Isn't he just going back to the XMB menu from Knack?

I much prefer the xbox style UI, but it would have to take Jack Tretton himself shitting in my cereal for me to buy a xbox 1 over a ps4 at this point.'

Really dislike both the XMB and the vita bubble system.

Uncluttered and easy to use (at least it looks like it to me). That is exactly what I want from a console UI. Looking forward to trying it out in a month.

Wish the video was not so shitty - SONY get on it and post something extensive and official for folks to look at!

I guess it could be a resume feature, and the system just picking up the game from memory.
Watch the video, it's just the Knack intro playing, then he picks up the controller and presses the PS button where it just goes back to the XMB menu. Around the 3:50 mark.

Not blown away by PS4 UI video.

My single biggest gripe about the PS3 UI is how slow it is when you bring it up while in the middle of a game, and the lag when scrolling through game tiles on PSN. If the PS4 UI doesn't suffer on those fronts then I'm more than happy.

You are seeing the gif sequence in incorrect order.
PS4 playing Knack, he push the PS button twice and go to the dashboard.

OK, that was my bad, pesky gifs lol
So what's with the loading circle icon on the bottom-left of KNACK icon that's visible around the 3:00 minute mark?

Well it shouldn't suffer, as it wouldn't have the RAM issue. Vita is a example at how snappy it can be.

Reserving judgment until the official UI demo Sony promised us we'd get closer to launch.

This looks like a slightly neutered devkit, it's poor video quality (the repost), and in French. I think it's too early to be condemning it, especially while ms has been showing metro openly for a while now.

We'll see how it turns out once everyone gets their hands on it. Sony knows that in today's day and age UI is extremely important. If they follow their philosophies back in the Feb. reveal the UI should be just fine I imagine.
