RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

There is a huge dif on 720 and 1080p. I was hoping the difference to be from 1600x900 or so, but 720 vs 1080 is huge, and I think even the average joe can tell the dif. nowadays.
We have been educated to know the dif. between HD ready and FULL HD, when we buy TV's thats what we usually look for, so this might just be one of the worst news for Xbox.

For the most part it's one sided this time, so I wouldn't call it a war. It's more of a roast.

Allow me to explain.
Unlike on anonymous forums where anyone can post anything and claim to be anyone, here people have specific names that can be recognized by other people. In addition, NeoGAF mods ban people who post false rumors. When people make claims as controversial as something like "the Xbox One version of CoD: Ghosts runs at 720p", they put their account on the line. This allows them to build reputations based on what they say. Believe it or not, there is an actual system of accountability here.
What may be difficult for outsiders and newcomers to see is that the posts from "random people that make everyone crazy" aren't "random people". They are people who others recognize, through reputation, as being accurate sources of inside information. People don't go apeshit over every post CBOAT makes for no reason.

This new and improved "humble" Sony will sit back and wait for it to play itself out. Outside of a few jabs here and there (the epic "game share" clip) Sony has just sat back and let everything play itself out, which is exactly how they should handle this as well. There is no need to speak up, it's already seen.

I'm referring to twitter. I have no idea what he's referring to but to argue that literally no one is saying that this is a game changer is an insincere argument to make when you couldn't possibly know the discussion going on in every single gaming message board.
Yoshida did not claim he did not know, but rather that he would let Activision confirm it. There's a difference. Albert's main problem was trying to "run interference" by claiming ignorance.

People do care. It's anecdotal, but everyone I know who is a hobby gamer/not a huge techie started looking at the PS4 when they heard it was a more powerful machine.
You give them something specific like "CoD looks way better on PS4" and that's gonna cause a double take.
100% no. I used an exaggerated statement to get my point across. I'm totally fine with people discussing whatever they want to discuss. Why would it be wrong for me to state my opinion?
Like I said in an earlier post I think that this is the greatest forum for gaming and I'm merely surprised how much effort is being put to bashing on consoles, games etc by some. It's 100% fine though and I respect it.
Considering CoD usually runs at sub 720p I doubt they've ever said what they're running at. It's up to pixel counters.

Did you even read my post? I said it was started by one person. It was "confirmed" by another -who talks in gibberish- later.
I have a feeling that this could actually do some serious damage to Xbone's image. Just knowing that the Xbone version of COD is barely visually improved over the last generation might lead a large number of people to conclude that the Xbone is a Wii-like marginal improvement over last-generation's hardware.
It's conflicting because while part of me thinks it would be cool if MS got a break sometime soon the other half of me thinks they completely deserve everything that's happened to them. Or at least the suits do.

Now, that's evidence started to surface even before the consoles launch, and it's as big as 720p vs 1080p is some cases.
God have mercy on Xbone once devs started utilizing PS4 extra compute maximizing system bandwidth.

Exactly. Also, it can be looked at from another perspective. A lot of people might not be able to tell the difference between the two but if you say the ps4 version is better chances are they will claim they see a difference and go with the ps4 version.

Which makes me curious about the GPU and CPU differences in previous gens. If PS4 is 55% more powerful than XBone, what about the PS3 VS 360 and PS2 VS Xbox?

Well said. There were many journalists who though the Xbone DRM polices were fine and would be accepted by customers. That proved to be completely wrong.
So to say customers will be fine with 720p is making the same mistake as before. Wait for customers to vote with their wallets first, then you can try and draw conclusions about customer behavior.
Yep, I think you'll find Sony are in the box seat for another PS2 style bloodbath, especially if they can achieve some sort of price cut within the first 3 years.

Partly yes, but sales of the PS3 version were really close or outperformed the 360 version in other regions also. My point is that Bayonetta is a shit port, disgustingly bad. But in the end people who wanted to play it on PS3 just did. So it's not that clear what kind of impact performance issues can have on the sales of these things.

It didn't for the GameCube (vs. PS2) though. Tired of using that example but, it fits when people keep on bringing up the point as if it can be used as an "end all be all".
As long as there's enough interesting/appealing content people will want it.

Hmm, funny to me that you used to be on my ignore but whatever. In this case I agree with you but I also add the week head start over on this side of the pond is a strong contributor as well. So many purported MS follies saddens me. If it wasn't for the much stronger launch line up (imo), it would be a complete disaster I feel. Good Lord, could you imagine if GT6 was a Ps4 LAUNCH title??? (sigh)

As long as the devs have the balls for it. Wasn't the PS3 more powerful? However of course this time the ease of development is pretty par for both (Edge saying it's easier on PS4 than XBone).

Not trying to be a troll but I literally just cancelled my Xbox One preorder. I loved reading the news of microsoft making changes in favor of the consumer and wanted more reasons to get two consoles at launch. However this thread for me was the straw that broke the camels back. I will wait for a decrease in price and enjoy my ps4 in the meantime.

These systems are launching a week apart with near identical controllers and games. One system is $100 cheaper, is more powerful and seemingly is getting superior ports of 3rd party titles.
This is nothing like we've seen before and it will make a difference. The 'mainstream consumer' also has twitter, access to websites and friends. If this continues the narrative will form that the PS4 is the one to get.
A lot of people can't loo at an image and tell what the resolution is, they can all look at an image and say which one looks better, this is where the argument falls down.
People are correct, you tell Joe average about 720p and 1080p their eyes probably glaze over, yet when they hear people talking about something "looking better" and they can see it for themselves then that will matter to people.
People don't care why something is better, but they do care if it is better.
And I really doubt that this will change anything for launch, it will continue to affect public perception of the respective consoles.
It was more powerful but the Cell was, by all accounts, a lemon. It took developers years to wrap their heads around that thing and by that time, the 360's install base was too big to ignore.
Yep and a lot of that had to do with exclusive content and features which goes back to my previous point.
Don't get me wrong though, the PS4's price will obviously help the system. Just too soon to say that that alone will cause the system to have a "PS2-like dominance".

I'm considering cancelling mine but the money saved will either be pocketed or put into a massive SSD for Steam. I find it strange people feel obliged to go for a console they weren't interested in originally just because their original one of choice may not be all that grand. Hold on to your cash for a while.
