So hyped.

edit: this is a really stupid question, but HFR isn't separate from 3D in theaters, right? It's either regular 2D or HFR 3D.

December 26 :S

I feel once this trilogy is over people will see that PJ's decision to approach the story from a post LOTR's perspective was the right one. Using the extra material makes sense and gives it the stronger links into LOTR's.

It's the shortest one of the series yet :lol.
I know, I know.

It's just that by the end scene of the first Hobbit movie, they were exactly halfway through the novel. Spreading the remaining book contents over two 2h+ movies feels ill fated. Either the second movie is full of padding and filler or both the second and third movies are.

Do we know whether we'll see Stephen Fry in the Desolation of Smaug?

EL to deliver some of the best moments in the FRANCHISE?

I'll believe it when I see it.

They were 6 chapters in actually.
And yes, he's in the movie.

Could it be a reversal of LotR? Where the first one is the worst and the second one is actually the best? :p

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Shiiiet just bought tickets for Hobbit 1 and 2.

Looks like becoming chubby again did the trick for peter Jackson. Also I am quite curious where in the book they will end as there will be very few material left after smaug

On paper there's very little material, but if you think about how it has to be conveyed on-screen, it becomes much greater.

At the moment it looks as if DOS will end with Smaug flying towards Laketown, which leaves that whole debacle for the third film. Then there's the whole political arc outside Erebor involving the men and elves, the Battle of Five Armies, and the return journey back to The Shire. On top of this, there's the entire resolution of the Dol Guldur arc, including the razing of the fortress and banishing of Sauron.

So there's no need to worry, the third movie shouldn't feel bloated at all, all things considered!

Thank god it's being shown in 24fps 2D here! They're gonna have the movie simultaniously showing in four rooms, three of them being HFR in 3D. I managed to get tickets for that one room without any of the gimmick crap :D!

Gimmick? lol

AUJ in HFR 3D was a fucking revelation. Every film should be in that standard.

Buttery smooth and the clarity was insane.

I complained for the first movie and I'll do it here: I really wish they did a HFR 2D version. Can't see 3D but I'd love to see how the HFR stuff is.

I dunno if it would be worth it. As someone who dislikes normal 3D the thing that HFR is good at is that it makes the 3D work. I don't see much sense in HFR 2D tbh.

It's incredible during wide, location shots. It makes CG elements look much more believable and part of the real world. But it doesn't work as well for normal scenes with characters moving around a set, it can feel like the footage is being played back too quickly and brings out too much detail in sets so that they lose some of that cinematic blur that we are used to.

I've heard that that HFR helps some people who had problems with traditional 3D. It did make the 3D look crystal clear to me, even during fast paced scenes where it usually becomes a bit of a fuzzy mess for me in 24fps.

Mm-hmm.

This movie could have a sub-zero RT score and I would still watch it just for dat HFR.

If you really can't see 3D why don't you just go to a 3D HFR show and experience it in 2D? :p 3D-to-2D glasses are also sold on ebay and whatnot. They're just regular 3D glasses with two right-eye lenses or two left-eye lenses, you could fashion your own if you can find two regular ones.

Seriously, I mean does anyone believe we are ever getting another blockbuster movie outside of the hobbit trilogy in HFR. I'm honestly viewing this as a once in a lifetime experience.

!

In my head I have it that the film will end with the
Dwarves taking back Erebor after the Bard kills Smaug. That would leave the last movie with the Battle of Five Armies, Bilbo taking the Arkenstone, Dol Guldur/Sauron and probably Bilbo taking his treasure home.
It may even end with
Bilbo ending up in Rivendell
, as they seemed to tie in the original trilogy.

Gonna see it in 48fps, but the cinema here only shows it with a break. C'mon it's not that long, I went to see the first one there without a break. They only do this to sell candy and popcorn...

yup, all of this

it also made the 3d WAYYYYYYYYYYY easier on my eyes. 0 strain, unlike 24fps 3d

That is bizarre. Its not any longer than your typical suphero blockbuster. Do they have breaks for those too?

Just booked tickets for IMAX HFR 3D on the 14th of Dec. So damn excited for this, after reading the book and watching the trailer it seems as though this is going to be a visual feast.

The soundtrack is fucking godlike. GODLIKE.

Especially disc 2. Wow.

There aren't a lot of hooks or memorable themes (compared to LOTR), but the overall flow is incredible. Shore has done it again.

Also, that version of Smaug's theme in "The Hunters". Hype.

There's at least one new theme in this one (besides Smaug's) that is so good I found myself humming it yesterday and momentarily forgot whether it was from The Hobbit or LoTR.

For anyone with the soundtrack, it's the motif that starts off
Beyond the Forest.
