This week’s magazine leaks have begun trickling in. Japanese retail blog, Sinobi, reports that a new visual novel adventure by the team that developed 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors has been announced.

The game’s script and direction is being undertaken, once again, by Kotaro Uchikoshi. Like 999, Kinu Nishimura is providing character designs.

The new game is in development for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita, and will be fully-voiced. As with 999, Chunsoft will publish the game in Japan. No release date has been announced so far.

Update: After a brief internal chat, we’ve finally decided how to translate the game’s title. It’s something to the effect of: Extreme Escape Adventure: Good People Die. Sound familiar? That’s because 999′s original Japanese title had “Extreme Escape” in it, too.

The new game, titled Gyokugen Dasshutsu Adv: Zennin Shiboudes, actually isn't a sequel to 999, but it is being developed by the same staff. Kotaro Uchikoshi is handling scenario and direction, with Kinu Nishimura doing character designs. Both had similar roles on 999. The game will also be full voice, with major voice actors like Akio Otsuka, Yukari Tamura, Chiaki Omigawa, and Rie Kugimiya

Some names are missing in that cast list though...

Ono Daisuke
Omigawa Chiaki
Kugimiya Rie
Sakakibara Yoshiko
Sawashiro Miyuki
Tanaka Atsuko
Tamura Yukari
Naya Rokurô
Noto Mamiko
Hosoya Yoshimasa

Don't even try to dub this one in English. That way madness lies.

The guy dressed like a mechanic is the game's main character, Sigma. Sigma is an ordinary college student who will frequently make sexual comments, annoying girls.

The girl in the center of the character art is Phi. She's cool and intelligent, but will sometimes say stupid jokes. She says she's a C cup when she's actually an A cup.

The story begins when Sigma is kidnapped and awakens in an elevator next to Phi. While Sigma doesn't know Phi, she seems to know him, even calling his name out. A bunny appears on the elevator monitor, causing them to flee the elevator (I'm not sure what the bunny says to make them flee, although if I saw a talking bunny on an elevator monitor I'd flee too). They find themselves in a warehouse alongside seven others. They will have to escape from this facility.

Chunsoft refers to Gyokugen Dasshutsu Adv: Zennin Shiboudes as a "game of betrayal." What that means is unclear at present, as only a few gameplay details have been announced. The game will have visual novel parts and escape parts. The escape parts involve exploring rooms and solving puzzles.

Development on Gyokugen Dasshutsu Adv: Zennin Shiboudes is currently at 50%. Famitsu lists the release time frame as TBA.

Awesome! 999 was amazing. Can't wait to see what these designers come up with.

Yes! I loved 999. I never did get all the endings though. Still have two left to do.
Same! I got the main ending also.

I was wondering how much longer it'd take before the first 3DS/Vita multiplatform title was announced.

Also, I really ought to buy 999 sometime.

Region free Vita FTW
Thats good, But with the PSP and the DS being a region free, I still buy my PAL games exclusively ;)

Hence me not have played 999, damn it all to hell!

I skipped 999 even though I heard great things about it. Was it strictly a visual novel with little gameplay, or was it a novel in a loose sense, a la Phoenix Wright?

It's a straight visual novel with some occasional choices and puzzles.

I think Anihawk put it best when he said it's the game Heavy Rain wanted to be.

It's more of a novel. There is gameplay, but you'll be solving the same 7 or 8 puzzles over and over again trying to get the best ending. The puzzles are solved the exact same way every time. Bored the hell out of me.

The one to get will depend on the resolution they do the art at, but I suspect it will be Vita.
