Call of Duty: Ghosts on PC demands 6GB of RAM.. yet it uses <2GB

So sad for a franchise that owes its roots to PC. At least Battlefield still gives a shit.

If you played Battlefield 4, you probably wouldn't be saying that.

Dice seems to give slightly more fucks though.

I only upgraded to 8GB recently and played the BF4 beta with everything maxed with 4GB.

Wtf were/are IW thinking.

BF4 beta was ridiculously unoptimized as well.

Why would it help a publisher to impose arbitrary limits on who can and can't play a PC game? It seems like that would only hurt sales. There's got to be something else, maybe something to do with the game's optimization in certain parts.

Blame EA for wanting this game out before Ghosts, BF4 wasn't ready for release.

It's an early tech demo of our GPU fur system from June 2013. The latest version will be integrated into Ghosts in a forthcoming patch, and it'll also be seen in The Witcher 3 sometime next year (the gif demo uses Witcher 3 assets and was originally presented by CD Projekt).

Cool, it looks fantastic.

That's fucking incredible. Valve need to remove this from Steam or at a minimum put a massive warning on the store page. I can see a ton of refund requests happening because of this. Those minimum requirements have always been a guildline, not an actual "have this or you can't play at all".

Yeah, I can't remember any other game that just flat out said "NO!, you shall not play". I was hoping Ghosts would have a bigger community than Black Ops 2, but there's just no way. I'd expect around 20k at most.

Fuck console developpers. May their shit limits rot in hell.
The race for the worse keeps getting better and better. Regression is the new moto.
The worst part is that Call of Duty was a PC series and IW was a PC developer. It wasn't until CoD3 before it became a console-first series.

By default, CoD4 kicks you from multi-player matches for cheating if you bought the Steam version. You need to go into settings to disable the Steam overlay (which is detected as a cheat).

Valve leaves stuff up to the publishers, but Activision doesn't care about a good user experience and the public keeps rewarding Activision anyways.

The only solution is to stop buying games from publishers who can't release a decent product.

This screenshots looks bad. Do you have your Image Quality set to Native?

I've set it to Extra
Also to prove my point that all levels seem to have the same look, here are four different shots from four different levels.

MW3 was the same with everything grey looking. It's very disappointing because for once they've got the tech and shaders that COD lacked but it's used so badly that it leaves me perplexed as per what was IW thinking when they went "oh yea this looks nice and I'm sure people would be immediately be able to notice all those new effects that we're using in this game". Also the textures, they don't seem to be made keeping the next gen consoles in mind at all. I just hope Treyarch pulls out something better, but knowing Activision I don't have my hopes very high because quite possibly the next COD and probably the one after that as well, will be a cross gen tittle.....gotta capitalize from that PS360 market while they can.

What about all the other stuff people run in the background chewing up RAM? Just having Chrome, Steam, Skype, Spotify and Teamspeak open and and my memory usage is at 5.86GB before I even start a game. If I close off Chrome before I start I end up at 3.27GB.

It kind of sounds like you have a bunch of background processes running. Try viewing "startup" from task manager and see if you have anything extra opening when you start.

Did you try to disable TXAA?, I remember when BLOPS2 launched TXAA was a blurry mess and had the same looks as your screenshots.

I'll try

Oh also changing settings means reloading the entire level all over again, even if it means changing something like AA.

This is true.

The game also doesn't runs all that well. I've got a superclocked 780 and on max settings @1080p 2xTXAA it drops to low 40s whenever I look at an area like this. While something like BF4 MP, I can get a constant 60FPS at maximum settings and 4*MSAA @ 1080p

I mean Black Ops 2 looks miles ahead of this even though it's considerably inferior technically. The campaign is even worse. Also IW has absolutely terrible art, they simply don't know what makes a game looks good because this game lacks colours, every level looks to have the same TOD.
My BO2 pic for comparison:

Wow it does look better.o_O

Wait a second, there's a logic fail here, but I'm not sure if its me or those who said this early on.

How is this "unoptimized"? It's using less than a third of the amount of RAM that was suggested.

EDIT: Also, this is just RAM use. Not performance. Are there even any drivers out there from Nvidia/AMD with support?

It's open already? Still 3 hours here. Almost want to buy it just to throw up some decent screenshots, people are butchering it.

Unless it was something like Direct X incompability i've never heard a game preventing someone from playing it just because it didn't meet min requirements.

I mean there's no reason to prevent people from trying. Esp. if the bottleneck is just RAMs.

Yeah, set it to Native. Extra scales the image and looks awful.

This. Set it to Native and take screencaps again. The game will look so much better.

If you told me that was a screenshot of the X1 version scaled to 1080p I'd believe it. Why is the image so soft?

I thought a couple of the Nvidia ones looked quite good compared to the best I have seen of Blops 2.

The HBAO+ stuff that Nvidia put into Batman Arkham Origins is probably the best AO implementation I have seen yet and Ghosts seems to be shaping up the same way.

Yeah, some of the Nvidia shots look good and people are butchering it with these screenshots that are clearly because of a wrong setup.

Won't bother with MP on PC. IW's games on PC are cheat central with poor support, so I tend to just stick with SP and Bot matches :)

Well the good news is that footsteps actually work correctly and you can tell where people are coming from, unlike in BO2

Is this real? That's pathetic.

So I guess all the people saying that these are fake requirements to make people on the fence give up on trying to upgrade and go with consoles for next-gen were right?

What other reason is there for this? To artificially create an impression that their game is just too cool and 'powerful'?

And saying that they are trying to cover their asses for when a user may be running too many RAM consuming shit in the background makes no sense. If that was the case we should have been seeing fake requirements for years now.

So when cracked versions of the game with real requirements for its last-gen graphics start appearing everywhere, it will be the bad PC-gamers fault, right? And before I'm crucified, I hate piracy and how it has affected PC gaming. But this is ridiculous.
