Dani Mathers (former Playboy model) may face jail time for invasion of privacy

She will be, but she isn't a danger to society and this is likely her first offense. Her career has already suffered from this, and it was certainly a revolting thing to do, but locking her up is only good for vindictive schadenfreude at this point.

She took god damn naked pictures of someone and distributed them on the internet. Who gives a fuck if it's a first offense? This isn't benign. That's a serious offense and something everyone knows is not okay.

It's not about being vindictive. It's about making people aware that this is a serious issue. And you are just hand waving it cause she "learned her lesson". Except she vety clearly learned nothing

What the hell at so many people saying "good" and "no sympathy".

It's jail... For... Body shaming. This is some Brave New World utopian/dystopian society shit.
I'm sure you would be perfectly okay with someone taking a candid picture of you naked in a changing room and posting it on Twitter. I don't know how you can possibly defend this.

I have no sympathy for her either.

Not a big fan of people just being able to pay their way out of trouble. A small dose of reality to this person who shows no remorse is okay with me.

I'm not defending her...I know what she did, but 6 months in jail...armed robbery, assault and armed burglary all carry a 1 year sentence. They're not of the same order in my opinion. Just fine the shit out of her, sue her for damages and give her 12 months of humiliating community service.
Just seems a drastic measure to give her a similar punishment as a violent criminal.

If I take photos of your nude mum at a gym and shared them to the web, would you be ok with just a slap on the wrist? Especially when I have the money to just hand wave it all?

Can't see her doing time for this. She'll probably be fined and sentenced to community service.

The positive side of this is the message it sends, and if she does it again, at least it'll be in secret.

Jail time and community service would do her some good.

I'm going to fall on the side of "let's not send her to jail over one very stupid mistake,"

I'm sorry, a stupid mistake? So she accidentally took a picture of someone in the changing room and accidentally didn't delete it immediately but instead accidentally sent it to someone/the whole world? The only "mistake" she made was sending it to everyone instead of just one person, if you believe her bullshit story. The very fact that she did it in the first place though? She broke the law.

She knew exactly what she was doing when she did it, and the potential sentence is based on the fact that she has shown no remorse at all since this happened. She didn't mistake anything she just doesn't give a shit.

Prison eh? Well yeah. However the US has the highest prison population in the world (around 724 out of 100,000) so America is pretty happy to put people away. Only Russia and China come close. But of course with the US it's not simply about crime, as the Netflix film 13th shows so well.
That said there needs to be an effective punishment and maybe no other option would be effective.

I hope someone goes to jail if they secretly take photos of me nude and post them on the internet.

Good I hope she rots in jail. I love how back when it happened she was all like Oh I'm so sorry blah blah blah. Then they tried to argue that well you couldn't identify her anyway so blah why couldn't she do it? Then of course the authorities are like yea we were able to so fuck off with that shit.

If someone secretly took naked photos of your mother and released them on Facebook you are saying there should be no penalty?

That's the problem with most Americans, no jail = no penalty.

What she did was extremely invasive but automatic approval for jail is rather bloodthirsty.

I think she deserves jail time to be honest. Maybe not 6 months, but 3 is good. I'm sure she'd never do something like this again afterwards.

And I'm not one of those people that think jail is always the solution, but in this case, it seems appropriate.

Good, fuck her.

But yes, I agree. She needs to learn that this sort of conduct isn't acceptable. The victim was a senior citizen, who did not deserve to be shamed like this.

A private photo? Basically saying "yeah I'm terrible but didn't want people to know"

Well, I myself don't do this, but let's not act like people are all saints. We all have a shitty side, one way or another. A ton of people, in their 20s especially, are judgemental, superficial assholes, particularly if they're privileged.

Not defending her, just saying it shouldn't be surprising if that is actually the truth.

How about instead of trying to normalize shitty behavior we punish it

If she goes to jail, there'll be plenty of things she won't be able to unsee......

and of course the defense force shows up. Oh, GAF pls...

Should I be in any position to respectfully provide you with sincere advice, I would suggest you read this back to yourself and think about what you are really saying.

On topic though, I agree with previous posters suggesting a healthy amount of community service to attempt to teach this person a lesson. In addition, of course, to a hefty sum of money being paid to the poor lady in the picture.

You are defending her. You attempted to dismiss what she did completely by calling it "just" body shaming.

I don't know if she deserves 6 months in jail or not, but I feel like as a man if I did this I would be doing jail.

I think 1 month plus several months of community service would suffice but I seriously doubt she sees any jail here anyway.

I'm perfectly fine her doing jail time for this. I honestly think she should end up on the sex offender registry. Taking nude photos of people without their consent and then distributing them sounds like it should be enough to get on there if you ask me.

It's me! And it is angry.

You're right and they're not synonyms but you don't "Oh shit, I took a picture of a naked lady and sent it to a friend to make fun of her, my mistake, whoops"

Also saying it was a mistake implies she knows what she did was wrong and she has remorse about it but the entire reason this update even exists is because the court ruled she has shown no remorse since the crime was committed. Seemingly to her it was only a mistake because she got caught.

I've done some shitty things in my life as i'm sure most of us have, but humiliating a senior citizen is definitely something I would never go near, even during my most insensitive teenage years. So ya fuck her.

Thats a fucked up thing to do no doubt and I am by no means defending her, but jail time for this is a bit much. Why not community service in where she can contribute to society and give her a fine. Our tax dollars will now pay for this.

I think this is all dumb.

I think she is dumb.

I think jail time for this is dumb.

I think the amount of money this is costing to go through this process is dumb.

Stop being dumb.

Our tax dollars are meant to pay towards punishing criminals.

Yes. Playboy models get paid $25,000 just for a single photoshoot if they pose naked. She has also acted. Her net worth is $200,000. She ain't hurting for money.

How many more ways are you going to defend this woman?

Saying "She's rich?" is not defending her, it's asking a question. I genuinely didn't know she was wealthy. I thought playboy model was the equivalent of page 3 model. I guess not. If money is not important (although net worth of $200,000 isn't THAT much) then a fine wouldn't be enough.

Fuck body shaming, but jail time? A crap ton of community service and reparations absolutely, but again jail time? I'm struggling to see how the punishment fits.

The fact that so many people downplay taking a photo of another person in a changing room whilst they are naked and then posted it online is shocking.

There's a new fucked-up generation of people raised on the internet who don't understand basic rules of human interaction. There should be a word to describe them, something like 'otaku'.

Curious what the replies in this thread would be if it was a man posting pictures of a nude 16 year old fat kid on social media for everyone to laugh at.

Like, I'm missing which part of this story is warranting all the kid gloves responses. This is straight up a sexual offense and she's lucky she won't be put on an official registry. A few months of jail time is not an outrageous punishment for publicly sharing nude pictures of an unknowing, unwilling party.

Should we have the same "hmm woah now, let's think about this" attitude about revenge porn too?

A conspicuous fine, jail time is ridiculous.
Jail seems fairly conspicuous to me. Now, we can argue about the duration. But the message should be perfectly clear, and jailtime is exactly that. It's also worth noting that the defendant could've shown some remorse, alas.

What, no? People in their 20s should know better. Do that shit in other countries and you will have even worse problems.

She deserves this and I hope she gets prison time so people know that shit doesnt fly.

No not Otaku - morons. That shit wouldnt fly in Japan.

Reread the thread. It's not about bodyshaming. Smh

I know the age old saying that "there is a defense force for everything" but I'm genuinely surprised to see this much defense force for this in here. Some of you need to take a hard look in the mirror.

I'm happy about the news and I hope she gets in some shit for doing something so pointlessly cruel, but I had to laugh at the way this

The LAPD has finally tracked down the woman Playboy Playmate Dani Mathers body shamed and they'll ask prosecutors to nail her.

is written because it is completely a porn synopsis.....
