No PS3 or 360 comparison. The title of the article is "Next-Gen Face-Off: Thief".I can't open the DF article at work, can someone tell me if it compares the current-gen versions as well ??

They don't cover frame rate, but based on the screens it looks like the only difference is the default gamma curve. The rest looks identical.
No its not. Textures are completely missing and anything is lower res, lower polycount. Its a pretty big difference actually.
I meant between 360/PS3. Not cross-gen.
They've made at the least mentions of current-gen games in their 'next gen' face/offs of cross gen games before too..
edit: Lens of truth seems to have a comparison of the current-gen version up.

Yep, muddy textures and vaseline smear look when compared to current gen/PC. But what the hell is up with IGNs comparison? Did they have the wrong setting for the bone version? Something's up because it has some terrible crushed blacks that we don't see on DF's comparison. I've brought it up before but no one has answered, maybe deserving of a new topic, or maybe not even worth considering IGNs head to heads going forward lol.
No gamma issues in this comparison. What the hell was IGN using?
Me citing Ryse as an example of what he said is just an illustration that obviously 1080p can't be so important, because Ryse at 900p "towers over the rest" of the launch titles.
It doesn't barely edge out to be the best looking game, but it towers over everything else.
inb4 "towers over the rest" doesn't mean what you think it means.
I have no clue how that has any relevancy to me using dark10x's praise for Ryse as evidence that Digital Foundry thinks 900p is a good resolution.
Unfortunately I can't find the article any more where this point was argued.
I'm quite sure that he said KZ looks better than Ryse; like, 99% sure he said it.Funny thing is, I am pretty sure he said on here that he rated KZ as the launch game that most impressed him. Perhaps, he was referring to Xbone only? I am not sure how anyone could say Ryse towers over KZ. Both stand out above the crowd.

I ask because I had eyes-on experience with the PS3 version yesterday, while ugly (probably sub HD) at the least the frame rate seemed a solid 30 during the opening of the game.
I'm amused that the discussions have all but ignored the absolutely intolerable frame pacing issue. It kind of makes the rest of the details seem unimportant.
This is the issue i'm talking about. Sorry for not posting pictures earlier. I have them but cant figure out the app. But it looks exactly like that. Step back a ways from the ground and the textures will blur out. It's extremely noticeable when your looking at a texture under a light. The wood textures seem to be the worst at this.Outlast for PS4 runs at 1080p60fps and uses FXAA. This is an UE3 game and also seems to have a problem with AF:
I think Killzone stands as the most impressive launch game (and still the most impressive game on either platform), but Ryse is close behind. They're both incredible looking games.Funny thing is, I am pretty sure he said on here that he rated KZ as the launch game that most impressed him. Perhaps, he was referring to Xbone only? The article I think I'm talking about was the Leadbetter one where he predicted based on PC components what the upcoming consoles are capable off and he compared various resolutions.I certainly do not believe that 900p is somehow a good solution, but in some situations, it doesn't look half bad. Games with a lot of post processing lacking in loads of thin objects can still look pretty clean. I use 900p on my PC even in some situations and it's really quite acceptable in some cases.
PCGH.de also said that POM is quite costly, performance wise.Oddly enough, since we're talking Thief, I ended up disabling POM on my PC due to weird performance issues in the City areas. It was causing a bit of hitching and, after playing with all of the settings, it turned out that POM was causing it. :\
So PS4:
- Full 1080p
- Trilinear filtering
- Steadier framerate (>24 FPS)
Xbox One:
- 900p
- 16x anisotropic filtering
- drops to 20's
Yet the Xbox One > PS4, huh?
It's DF. Their Xbox bias was present all throughout last generation. Take it with a grain of salt.
Here's some directly captured screens of the current-gen version (PS3). Looks a bit soft, but perfectly serviceable.
720p &... looks like FXAA.
Okay so, I got to the point where I could take a video of the infamous "flag gif" on the PS4.
I used the PS4's upload stuff, hopefully this works for people: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152234721319438
How do you explain all the ps4 recommendations over the past 3 months then? I find it incredibly odd that people ignore the recent past and claim bias when a decision goes against ~their~ console.
Did you play from Prologue to Chapter 4 in one sitting or how long would you estimate you were playing previos to that exact cutscene? That is odd. I still had the textures load in a few seconds for me on that scene. Yours seem to come out without that quick loading. I wonder why that is.

Actually, you can see plenty of texture loading all over the place during the beginning of the scene (especially on the building to the right). Just not on the flag, which starts with full-res texture from the get-go.That is odd. I still had the textures load in a few seconds for me on that scene. Gamer, high fives all round man. I've said this in so many of these threads, was thinking of making a thread about it actually. What has annoyed me the most about this generation so far is the constant comparisons with the PC.
The PC will always win and should never be compared to consoles imo, and previously never were!
Seems to distract a lot of the Xbox One resolution issues away, and there have been numerous articles on the internet doing this.

I'm certainly not going to depend on the devs to get POM and AF working in tandem on the PS4, certainly not with their output so far, but I think they should drop POM on the PS4 since it's more costly and go with 16xAF for a locked 30fps. This should be their focus for a potential patch.
why would you not include PC if the game is also on PC?

Thought this was interesting. From a senior programmer on the PS4 ICE Team.
Edit: Skeff!
It's called selection bias.
It's the rage these days.
why would you not include PC if the game is also on PC? and yes some of us game on PC and consoles and want to see what's different.
someone who plays games on a PC is probably always going to get that version because it's cheaper and better if they have decent hardware.
Sorry man, at least I quoted instead of stealing
Speaking of Bias, how's that single digit frame rate going for you?
It's not a lie if I edit my article over and over again until and include only evidence that confirms my previous bullshit!Hey it's that guy who lied about the PS4 version having a worse frame rate.
I said it happens during the two big set pieces in the game, and it does.
When you parkour on the rooftops and everything around you is crumbling.
That was a rude, uneducated, and very unnecessary comment.
I understand that readers are upset for being steered in the wrong direction. All I can do is promise that in the future I won't make claims without supporting evidence...

Something about Thief is going to blow up the console war once embargo is lifted.
