If it shipped 2 million copies in the first month and then managed to sell enough to merit further shipments bumping it up to the 2.6m it was at, then it sold through those copies fairly quickly or retailers wouldn't have ordered anymore.

I don't know why people misinterpret shipped figures so much.

Look at my post again. I'm not misinterpreting anything, they sent out a lot of copies, and they sold a good chunk of it too, but it still took awhile to clear through all the copies floating around. Not to mention the game was multiplatform, which accounted for the increase in copies. Regardless, the game didn't seem to have much legs after that. It was front loaded.

Arbiter's Trinity Smash is a style tank. You'll rack up those SSS's like they were nothing, especially when combined with Round Trip/Kablooey/Demon Dodge (especially the latter). It's also extremely powerful in its own right and can make mince meat out of bosses.

Yea they're ok when combining with your other weapons, it's just that they're kind of not very interesting to use when you fight the red dudes, even if switching between both arbiter and eryx the moveset is kind of lackluster, eryx especially just seems to focus mostly on vertical attacks (uppercut, stomp) and the punches, so I ended up just spamming arbiter's trinity and demon dodges a lot.

Yeah the elemental enemies are just a stupid idea altogether. Completely limits you and it's next to impossible to even remotely look good killing them. Button mashing the same attacks just to get rid of their annoying asses.

I definitely don't want to see elemental enemies used again.

FYI DMC4 was projected by Capcom to ship 1.8 million in FY2007. The game outdid it's projection by a large amount.

Quite the shame too because I find most of the enemies in this game enjoyable to fight against.

All they really had to do to fix the elemental enemies would be to not make them completely invincible to other weapons. If they just took reduced damage from other weapons they wouldn't be such a terrible idea. But the fact that they introduce enemies that reduce your arsenal to 1/4 in a game entirely dedicated to combining a huge set of moves to create stylish combat is honestly mind boggling.

That being said, while they are a pretty stupid idea, they aren't so bad as to reduce my overall enjoyment of the game. But I would love not to see them at all in the next installment

Played it. I liked it more than i thought i would. Things that i do NOT like. Environment is mostly ugly which is odd because NT makes pretty games. Enemy design is bland. Mostly vomit looking and im not one of those 'everthing is brown' dudes. I started on nephilim and died a whopping 2 times in the first 8 missions. Dont care for the weapon system. Using the triggers feels awkward. Art direction is really ugly. Dodging sometimes feels unresponsive, but when you do dodge the invincibility frames are incredibly generous. I do think its worth playing. The whole 'gritty' take on the game falls mostly flat on its face. My biggest problem oddly enough with the game is cosmetic. To reiterate my god the art design is ugly.

Well, Capcom decided to make DmC because they felt this way the game was going to reach a new and wider fanbase thus selling more than a DMC5 would have sold. If DmC will sell more than the previous DMC games it means they got it right.

I don't think this has happened.

There doesn't seem to be any evidence that DmC is keeping pace with DMC4 much less surpassing it.

You can't blame that all on disgruntled fans not buying into the game.

It's all a bit premature but I predict by march 2013 DmC will stand at 1.4 shipped with massive sales everywhere. It will probably hit 2.2 lifetime.

Of course no one should blame the people who don't like the game, there are always people who don't like a game. I just wanted to point out that Capcom predictions were to have great sales with DmC. It's going to be intersting once we get real numbers about DmC sales.

I don't think you can blame anything on disgruntled fans. Clearly that audience wasn't part of Capcpom's projections, otherwise they wouldn't have antagonized fans and instigated the already bad shitstorm.
DMC isn't supposed to sell more than DMC 4 did. DMC 4 already sold much more than what a game like DMC is supposed to anyway.

Good thing DmC isn't a bad game, it can sell well on its own merits even without the full support of the DMC fanbase. If it did end up being terrible, I don't even know what their sales projections would be.
Good for Capcpom, that is. Not good for fans of the old ones that don't want this.

I won't speak for the entire game because I could see the argument about how some locations were bland but I will give credit to DmC for having two of the most clever levels/sections I've seen in recent memory.

For those that have beaten the game, I'm of course referring to
the raptor news section where you jump through the opening video and included Bob boss fight and the trance level.
While not ground breaking in content, the designs were beautiful and clever and I was not disappointed.

Using Amazon as a sales gauge is iffy but DmC is hovering around the 100th spot in the best sellers list. For a game that just came out I think that's pretty bad. I predict 200k~300k for January NPD, if Capcom's lucky.

Had completely written off this game (not being a DMC or really action game fan in general). Once the reviews started pouring in I decided to give it a chance. Thank god I did because this game is great. The art design is superb and limbo allows for such amazing level design (from a visual standpoint). The combat doesn't feel impenetrable to me like past DMC games, it's accessible enough to get you started and slowly introduces more depth as you get new weapons and abilities. I enjoy the combat so much I've immediately jumped into SOS difficulty now , which I've never immediately replayed an action game of this kind ever.

This and Castlevania: LOS are probably my two favourite action games of this gen. Kudos to NT.

This game was absolutely ruined by it's trailers. If they cut a better few videos before release I can't imagine fan reaction would be anywhere near as vitriolic as it is.

Like they should have left the "FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU" exchange out... and maybe the fuck you on the list too. like damn if they cut a version without the words fuck you easy a million seller

4chan is angry about DmC release and is purposely buying extra copies of the HD collection. AKA Operation CUHRAYZEE.

Oddly enough, this is like the smartest thing these haters/boycotters/protesters to DmC can do. Instead of bitching about this game - which only just attracts more attention to the game itself, they should support DMC HD. To tell Capcom that the OG series isn't as 'done' as they thought. Also, boycotting and convincing others not to get this game based off principle as opposed to actual game quality, will negatively effect the sales. Problem is it comes with the umbrella concept of giving the message to Capcom that the DMC brand itself in totality is weaker as a whole than anticipated. Letting DmC perform on it's own merits, while promoting the OG DMC series is probably the best course of action. DmC is still a part of the DMC brand, and if it performs poorly it ultimately weakens the "DMC" brand in whole. Especially to a bunch of Japanese old dudes sitting on the top floor at Capcom who make these decisions that can't even tell the different between white hair and black hair. They'll just think it's further proof of weakening of the DMC brand. DMC could end up like the next Dino Crisis franchise. The unfair thing is, Dino Crisis died out because Dino Crisis 3 sucked, Ninja Theory's DmC, on the other hand, is a great game, it's really just a fun action game.

To be honest, it's not a matter of new DmC versus DMC, it's still about "DMC" altogether. The best thing that could happen is for DmC to sell as much as DMC4. To the number. Because this tells Capcom nothing, it's completely neutral. If DmC sells more than DMC4, this could promote the idea that fans no longer care for the OG series, and perfer the new direction. If DmC sells worse, yes - it makes them think that maybe the vocal minority on the internetsss had more influence, but it also comes with the baggage of weakening the brand image altogether, and the series could end up like Dino Crisis or MegaMan.

I agree, I had written off the game too but stuck it out like I've done with other games. The demo they presented to us had the most juvenile part of the game in it. Honestly, the writing was a much higher class than what they showed us (not excellent on its own right but comparatively). I just don't understand that choice. It's like they wanted to hide the fact that they were going to make a game that wasn't all one-liners and "fuck this, fuck that."

Yeah they advertised Dante very poorly. All the Fuck you scenes are already hyped up in the trailers when there are numerous other elements to Dante not advertised... and there aren't even that many types of scenes in the game. Whoever thought it was a good idea to advertise Dante like that should be fired, it cost them a lot of potential sales. The whole trying to go for "hard edge" might end up biting them in the ass but who knows... maybe people like some smut in their games.

Also I dread discussion of the game's story in any depth other than a superficial one. Game has a ridiculous amount of plot holes if you try to make a second pass at it. I never really looked that deeply in the DMC stories to begin with but others do and they are just ripping the game apart based solely on its plot holes. Not saying DMC games didn't have a ton of plot holes (they did) but for NT to also have as much holes as previous DMC games is not a good look.

I figured it out.

The new Dante is like Corey Haim from "The Lost Boys", mixed with James from "Twin Peaks".

With a heavy sprinkle of badassery.

Funny thing is there were probably more "fucks" said in any one given trailer than there were in the rest of the game.

Alright Godamnit, I'm fucking stuck on Mission 4 when the walls start closing in. You have to make 2 jumps. The second jump is the one I can't get. I run all the way to the edge of the protruding platform, do a double jump and then angel lift, and I fall short of the edge every single time. i can't find any colored points to use Arbiter pull or Osiris Lift to help me get across. And its timed, so I can't sit there and study it to figure out another option.

I've failed this fucking thing at least 20 times and I'm going to take a sledgehammer to this Dual Shock 3, stomp the rest of its guts out and then make the little bits and pieces watch me fuck its mom, right in front of his little plastic broken carcass.

Idk I tend to take stories in games like this in one pass through because they aren't meant to be like mind bending movies were a second pass will have you noticing all the forshadowing but in all honesty, I think only DMC 3 had the scope that this story did and both of them feel like there were plot holes/missing information in many places.

That's exactly what I am saying but this reboot has about as many plot holes as DMC3 probably even more. I really have to wonder if they are saving a lot of that stuff in the sequel and purposely left out stuff for that reason then again some of the dumb stuff can't really be explained in a sequel either.

Dino Crisis being shelved like that is a fucking travesty. Essentially the game had 2 main games, I think at least one spin off game and one terrible game. The first 2 sold extremely well and the 3rd one rightfully sold bad because it was a terrible game. Plus it wasn't even on the console of the first 2 games which further alienated the fanbase.

If at that time they had made a RE4 style Dino Crisis game on the PS2, DC would've still be alive I guarantee it. You can't just make a terrible game and then wonder why people didn't buy it...

I still thank the gaming gods that Capcom had the bright idea to make a good DMC game after DMC2 to revitalize the franchise. That was a truly rare Capcom moment right there.

Finished the game today.... what do I think?

The best DMC game IMO.

Amazing level design, BEAUTIFUL art... very interesting story........ and I just LOVE the ending.

and oh.... the combat are the most fun I had for a long time.

I won't accept another DMC game but from NT, they nailed it so freaking hard <3

I don't feel so well. Can't wait for the 25th.

the elemental enemies are one thing i'm hoping gets modded out of the PC version by anyone capable and willing. such a thick idea that should have cost someone a job. It's like someone asked how they could break the flow of combat and add in a arbitrary "cube goes into square hole" mechanic that does nothing to add depth to combat outside of annoying you.

I finished it! It was great as an overall package. I could see a few things I'd like improved in a sequel and I think 60 fps would be critical to elevating this to the top tier, but it was a pretty fun game.

I also thought the story and characters were pretty good. It really sets up a sequel without being too cliffhangery. And Dante was kind of a fun character in the end. Not emo at all, which is at least something nice.

My only major complaint is that despite people saying they were going to do so much creative stuff with the level design, every level was pretty similar in terms of overall structure and conceit. Oh no I'm being dragged into Limbo x 15. They just stripped out pretty much all non-combat, non-platforming (one puzzle in a late mission). They platforming wasn't too engaging but it was fun to kinda glide through the air.

The bosses sucked except for
Vergil
.

Incoming PC version will be sexy.

None stood out to me, as being particularly bad. Did you install the game?

EDIT: Annoyingly enough, the Face-Off from Digital Foundry doesn't compare installed time with non installed. But they do say it's 5-15 seconds installed.

I've only played the demo at a friends place and the full game for 1h at a demostation so I doubt it was installed. That could explain it, completely forgot that was even a thing.

Friend, I would be flat out hyped for next gen DmC2 on Unreal Engine 4.

Its not out of the realm of possibility. There are real tangible great things this game has done. If NT had just made this game and it had no connection to dmc it would have been much better received. This is their best playing most stable game. As it is though it really shows as a western take on a Japanese game.

I appreciate what they did with Vergil. The game series has always been about how polar opposite the two are while still having that friendly rivalry. IMO they did good by pushing the fact that Dante is a doer and Virgil is a thinker.

I do like that aspect even though it's a bit weird with the hacker stuff, I do appreciate them trying to build a relationship between Dante and Vergil too, something I felt lacking in the series.

It's just that at the end of the game and the past history
(where dante kicks his ass as a kid) made Vergil to be a pretty weak character, which made the final fight anti-climatic because you just don't think the dude is a threat. You.. just kick his ass, lol.

It's a power vs. thought fight, I just think NT did it wrong. Something that could have worked a little better was if the clone actually fought as an independent entity as opposed to just doubling Vergil's attacks most of the fight. Or adding more clones to the mix and making it a brawl as opposed to a duel. I just get the feeling NT got too big for their shoes and thought they could match the epic duel from DMC 3

Exactly and Vergil was the smarter of the two.
Judging by that ending it didn't seem like there was much of a difference in IQ between the two... in fact I would say Vergil made the dumb choice there.

Plus it was Dante who came up with the idea to use Lilith as bait exchange. If Dante is motivated he is just as smart as Vergil but he is rarely as motivated as Vergil.

Man all the bosses were lame and the story was bad bad stuff. Nu Dante was a straight up unlikable cunt and the whole
we killed your baby stuff rubbed me the wrong way
even though it was a demon.

Anyways the gameplay is decent enough which is surprising but my expectations for DmC were rock bottom to begin with.

Depends on what you consider equal. It's a brain vs. brawn issue
please ignore Vergil's utter stupidity at the end

It made sense to me. Dante grew up "killing demons and having sex" while Vergil was hacking computers and dabbling with the black arts.

It would be nice if you could post pictures but I have a few questions:

- what are the refresh rate options? 30 Hz, 60 Hz, (120 Hz,) unlocked, I assume?
- did you notice any stuttering?
- are the HD textures a noticeable upgrade?
- the Steam page mentions "partial controller support". I assume this means it opens a separate menu before it launches into the game. Can you confirm/deny?

- 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, 50, 59, 60 and I'm 99% sure 120hz. Only have a 120hz monitor at the office and friday was a long day so I can't say I'm 100% sure but I think I checked.
- no stuttering whatsoever, been playing on a 590 GTX and a 690 GTX
- Textures are definitely crisper than the console version, haven't seen the PC port without HD textures
- no separate menu, all settings are main menu, the settings are as follows

Gamma
Resolution
Framerate (see above)
Fullscreen
V Sync
Graphics Quality (low med high ultra)
HD Textures (gloriouspcgamingmasterrace.jpeg)
HD Anti Aliasing (doesn't state if it's FXAA or MSAA or w/e

How quickly can you skip the skippable cutscenes, compared to the console demo if you have that reference. How fast are the pre-level loads?
Never played the demo, it skips after 2 - 3 seconds on my rig but I'm playing on an insanely overpowered prebuilt machine that I'm reviewing so your mileage may very
