Dreamhack 2011 SC2 Tournament

The Dreamhack summer Starcraft 2 tournament will take place from Saturday 18th of June to Monday 21st of June in Jönköping, Sweden.

A 200 000 SEK total prize pool is up for grabs ($32,000) for the 48 player lineup. The pot is distributed as follows:

● 1st place: 100 000 SEK ($16,000) + Wildcard to DreamHack Winter 2011
● 2nd place: 50 000 SEK ($8,000)+ Wildcard to DreamHack Winter 2011
● 3rd place: 25 000 SEK ($4,000)
● 4th place: 13 000 SEK ($2,100)

Tournament Format:

The 48 man field is split in to 8 groups of 6. Each player will play everyone in his group in a best of 3 (Bo3) match. The top 2 from each group will advance to the Round of 16. The tournament continues from there in a single elimination Bo3 format until the grand finals, which are Bo5.
The map pool is GSTL GSL Terminus SE, GSTL GSL Xel’Naga Caverns, GSTL GSL Crossfire SE, GSTL GSL Tal’Darim Altar LE, GSTL GSL Crevasse, TSL Metalopolis and ESL Shakuras Plateau. Each player gets 1 veto.

Tonight, gonna watch some NASL (unless I read their baffling sched totally wrong) then cheer MMA to victory in the GSL finals super late and then either transition straight to Dreamhack or, if I don't have a nap after work and am too tired to push on, throw down some static D and turtle up for the night.

And... no NASL I guess I was looking at the EU rebroadcast. So epic nap confirmed, I should be able to watch Dreamhack until 5am no problem. ;)

The last Dreamhack was just so pro in every way, I hope they match the great games and great production. :)

LoL is played by teams. $10,000 USD per player for the first place team, I think. (5 players on a team, right?)

Anything but a MC July Bomber podium.

Compared to MLG we've got some more of the European elite here to stop the Koreans from completely dominating the top 3. Happy Dimaga Kas Socke Tarson, we're counting on you.

Missing two of the three rising stars in EU atm (Nerchio and Stephano), and it sucks that some of the invities (Fuitdealer/MKP/Demu) couldn't make it but it's still a great field.

In the current metagame, Zerg is pretty much fine in terms of balance. TvZ has been pretty balanced for a while now and with all those new ZvP builds cropping up (Roach/Ling timing vs early expands, Morrow's Baneling/Zergling/Infestor style etc.) it seems pretty okay right now. Sheth for example also has this really cool style where he builds almost only lings and does a lot of crazy run-bys and counterattacks.

Heh, I was going to make a joke about LoL but realized a) I have never seen a split second of competitive LoL gameplay and b) would probably enjoy it if I did. May watch a bit of the stream, it can't be less interesting than WoW arena shit or CoD.

Who are considering the top top tier Europeans that haven't been involved in recent big tournaments like MLG or TSL? I'm familiar with Kas, Dimaga, Naniwa, Thorazain etc of course, but I'm not familiar with Tarson for instance.

Strong Polish Terran from Millenium, always does well in tournaments and seems to take out a big name on the way.

I mentioned the (in my opinion) most promising EU players who were not in MLG in post #17. There are a couple more who could do well if everything goes their way like SaSe, the ex-WC3 pro who recently won the Road to Korea tournament in the finals against Naniwa, or Mana who just went 5-4 in the NASL division of death.

I'll try to catch some of the matches after GSL tonight if I'm still awake, will hopefully get to watch some of the last matches on Sunday morning/late Saturday night.
