Fargo - Season 3 - Brothers, Bridge, and Backstabbing in 2010 Minnesota - Wed on FX

They might as well replace Shea Whigham's character with the stock police captain from the Simpsons "McBain" parodies.

Where exactly does that moron think she got a syringe?

Is that Russian hitman just really pompous? It seemed needlessly ballsy to hang out in the library like that when he could have stolen the file with the cop never being the wiser.

I really enjoyed both the first and second season, how is the 3rd one compared to both? Is it as good? I'm thinking of waiting until all the episodes are out before I start.

All three bad guys just seem insane in their pretentiousness and posturing. A WOLF MASK? Really? Really? Their plans are wretchedly bad too.

Its almost at this point like the three have a running bet on who can get the highest level of wanted stars in GTA Fargo and then escape.

Yeah. Attempting a second assassination immediately after you botch the first one IN FRONT OF A COP is ridiculous. Also, I really liked Sy's "the world" scene. And did I mishear, or did he refer to Ray as a "libtard"?

I don't like it nearly as much. I don't think any of the characters are really all that interesting, they offer very little to "root for" or against. I just have no emotional investment in any of them. I also think the storylines are a little bland compared to season 1 or 2. It's still good compared to most generic TV, but pales greatly in comparison to the first two seasons IMO.

This Sheriff guy is unrealistically dismissive. I get him being a hardass or thinking he's a better cop than Carrie Coon, but it's kinda dumb now, dude is going so far that it's not even entertaining or intriguing, just poorly handled.

[edit]

Like, why would she have a syringe? Who handcuffed her? Who was that guy that just ran by you and then isn't seen again? Why did the video cut off the SECOND that guy walked in? Oh, it's a glitch...

Fuck off.

Season 1 had Bob Odenkirk's character doing something similar but when he noticed things didn't actually make sense, and it couldn't just be handwaved away by saying nothing is happening, since something VERY clearly was happening, he let the investigation happen. Varga could walk into that place, kill Carrie Coon, and he'd still would say nothing is happening just because reasons.

I'm enjoying the show well enough but the sum of its parts isn't really working. Some great acting, directing, writing...all at times. Overall I don't find myself caring all that much.

This is easily my least favorite season, and Shea Whigham's character is total trash, like it's out of control at this point how they can't come up with anything else to slow Gloria down but him being the most insane person alive. Still though, the acting and music and everything else in the production of the show is so high quality that it's one of the few shows I won't miss.

Side note, this is me being weird but it's super strange to me that Goran Bogdan is listed as main cast but Michael Stuhlbarg isn't. How is Sy not a main character lol? I know so trivial but I always pay attention to these things.

That's pretty much where I'm at right now. All of the individual pieces are solid, but so far it hasn't really cohered into anything special (or all that worthwhile) yet.

Yikes. I've actually been digging this season, but this episode didn't ring "true" for me at all. I know that sounds weird given how Fargo usually aims to sprinkle its stories with a hefty helping of the absurd. But we went from 0 to 100 outta nowhere. Just last episode Varga was telling his goons to keep things quiet. So we go from a clandestine setup to frame Nikki to a prisoner transport being run off the road. Now it's a federal investigation coupled with the attempt on her life at the police station.

And Varga opening the Christmas presents like the Grinch...the dude wearing the wolf mask to go after Nikki...It's way too fucking on the nose. Even the cameo on the prison bus seemed incredibly unnecessary.

There's a razor thin line between good ideas and bad ideas. This show has way more good than bad, without question. But it's hopscotching on that line more and more.

Really disliked this episode. The use of dissolves was cheesy and there's only so much disbelief that can be suspended in relation to the logic of the characters.

Too many stupid things happened this episode:

- breaking into the library before the police officer had already left in his car, and then confronting the officer head on in the library

- the army police officer not believing a link between the murders even after the attempted murder and CCTV going down

- Emmit Stussy wearing the shirt with his brother's blood on it

- Emmit Stussy giving away so easily that he already knew his brother was dead

- A second assassination attempt immediately after the first which would have had a very poor percentage of coming off

I'm still enjoying the show, but the plotting is much more contrived than the previous seasons

-He was probably already in the library, didn't break in only after cop left. Probably broke in while the station was closed previously.

-St Cloud police literally have probably never seen an attempt like that, still don't know what was in the syringe, and yeah sometimes electronics do temporarily have issues. It's not weird for them to be confused by a potential elaborate conspiracy.

-Emmit had to leave the scene of the crime immediately to establish an alumni.

-Emmit was over eager in trying to establish that alibi, was clearly somewhat drunk, and likely in a state of shock from just killing his brother.

-Varga knows that Nikki can point a finger at his goons so it's better to just kill her to minimize any possibility of blowback. He also knows that she can point to a feud between emmit and Ray about the stamp, so it would basically make Ray a viable suspect if that whole plot is discovered, which obviously Vargas doesn't want.

The most unrealistic thing is that the prison bus did not have a police cat escort in case something happened to the bus. That oversight was worth it though imo for the action and surprise of the scene, and intrigue if Nikki can get out of it. Imo at least.

Basically nothing you said is actually contrived though. If you don't think cops tend to just stick with a suspect even if there is compelling evidence of another suspect I don't know what to tell you. It's how people get wrongfully convicted all the time.

I've enjoyed this season as its progressed and I know they're kinda part of the fargo fabric by now but I'm getting real tired of the superior who wouldn't listen until it was too late trope, and the seemingly omniscient villains trope. I'll assume that there'll be a twist at the start of next episode, but still.

it's to carrie coons credit that the earnest cop thing doesn't feel tired this time either, can't pick between her and season 2 guy for my favourite.

At least it's still shot so beautifully ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"leftard" I heard.

sy, nikki, gloria are the best characters this year, everyone else is kind of naff now ray is gone. maybe mr. wrench too purely on the virtue of him being from a better season.

So why was the door the policeman just locked unlocked when he went back?

Ah my bad must not have been looking when they showed that. Then yeah he wouldn't have even been able to pick a lock that quickly imo. So yeah that's a bit forced. But it was fairly good scene though, not gonna fuck with this scary mfer and just books lol.

It's getting absurd, easily the weakest character this season. Bob Odenkirk's guy was shown to be a big softie and a god guy at heart (the adoption story), who didn't want to believe someone he knew could commit such horrible crimes. There was an arc there, this guy is just an ass.

As has already been pointed out, it was made clear the Russian did break in. Why, when the hitmen have been so professional up until then, would he intimidate and allow himself to be potentially identified by a cop?

The fact that Emmit did nothing to attempt to save his brother and immediately called Varga seemed to suggest that he had control over his emotions, and was ready to cover up the incident. It must have been expected that he would have to talk to a cop. As soon as one turns up, he becomes an emotional wreck, and immediately incriminates himself with zero pressure; this did not ring true to me.

Someone would have had to have handcuffed Nikki to the rails, and brought a syringe in, and for just the single most important camera to go down at the same time, all circumstantial evidence is pointing to an assassination attempt. It would take a special kind of cognitive dissonance to dismiss this and not to want to open up the investigation.

Hey i asked my brother about this and hes been working at a prison for years. He said prison buses dont have to have a police escort.
