Final Fantasy XI | OT | Vana'diel Forever

Wait so now the updates aren't ending and there will be more story?

I'm confused... Can someone please explain?

Updates were never ending to begin with, just major ones.
Continuation of battle content was clarified finally.
Main storyline is complete.
Sidequests via Records of Eminence will continue.

I got the one off the site. As soon as I hit play on the POL Christmas splash screen it tries to open FFXI and it goes back to POL

Run as admin?

We have reviewed the information you have provided us. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a restorable data for this particular character. Therefore, it cannot be reactivated. We deeply apologize that we are unable to fulfill your request and thank you for your understanding.

Sigh.

This has bugged me forever. What's the music that plays in the launcher when you enter a wrong password? It also plays on the Content ID page.

Roll fresh on sylph. You'll catch up faster than you think.

It's what I did while thinking over if I should have reactivated my old character and indeed, I'm already at level 59 with my Thief (my old one was between 61 and 63, I can't remember exactly).
It's just too bad I'll never get to see my old character ever again.

Something amusing just happened to me. I was doing the Rycharde quest to get the Toraimarai Canal map and he pays for my Mhaura to Selbina boat ride. I could have just teleported but I decided to just go the old, slow fashioned way.
So I went to the ship counter, the NPC let me through because Rycharde already paid for me, I get on the boat, the boat departs... and I find myself back in Mhaura, kicked off the boat because
"You do not possess a boarding permit. You were not permitted to board the ship...".
I guess I'm gonna teleport.

decided to actually really come back in the game after a long LONG time... sadly everyone I know no longer plays (alone on Odin right now). a quick question, I still had not done limit 10 yet. can it be solo as a SMN with the Olde Rarab Tail?

Alter Ego trusts are allowed for that fight, if you don't know anyone on server, then my best bet is probably SP summon alexander and use his power on your trusts and use gessho tank trust, then use old rarab tail when alexander's shield is down

The taru guy hits like a truck, having someone who is ilv119 and let him call trusts would make things more simpler I'd imagine

I know it sounds like alot of preparation, the fight isn't easy for a returning player @lv95
best of luck!

Well, 7 and a half months in and I finally think I see an end to my resub. I'm kind of running out of things to do that aren't daily chores like guild point grind/redemption. I've got ~5 major story content arcs to cover and everything else is old endgame and current endgame, most of which is out of my reach given my playtime + the lack of other players online when I'm online. I'm honestly surprised they haven't announced server merges by now, there are fewer people online now than I've ever seen. I actually caught Voluptuous Vivan up this morning while doing my Teleport-Yhoat quest (lol). That to me is a sign...there's nobody here :(

I'm right there with you. The game is kind of a waste of money for me right now. The only time I ever do anything is on Tuesdays on IHOP event night. The rest of the time, I'm usually idling in Adoulin.

You can get more than one tail and lock him down indefinitely if you can't find assistance.

You may have gotten on the wrong boat. There's 2 with different destinations.

For all you folks looking for things to do, hop on discord more, it's where stuff gets planned outside of ls chat. I've had a ton of rl stuff going on lately and I've been playing catch up for 3 months missed so I have not been very available, but hopefully in the new year that will change. Don't hesitate to try and get things going yourself as well. People will respond to that initiative. You don't need a full party either since you can usually use yoran-oran or apururu to heal and koru moru to buff. Makes it much easier. Also it's the holidays so I wouldn't expect things to be bumping right now.

Regarding tuesdays, we could use more people interested in gearing pld (need more pld options the most), blm, geo, and sch for higher tier content, so if you have room to expand your job spread, please consider expanding into these to make it possible to attempt things.

I've been working heavily on catching up my thf and sch myself.

I bought the game several years ago but I never really played it. There now seem to be many free to play private servers with multiplied EXP out there, so after the Square Enix servers were shut down, I might give it another try.

- The official servers are not shutting down. Xbox and Ps2 support are ending in March. PC support will continue indefinitely.
- XP is already many times what it used to be on the real servers so your reasoning is silly
- You can join us on sylph
- This thread is not for discussing private servers.

I guess I'll try to get the Alter Egos to help, maybe get a few more Olde Rarab Tails too. thanks for the pointers.

Downed the Shadowlord with my faithful trusts and got my Rank 6, managed to do the Level Break quests until level 70 while reaching level 62. A few more ranks and I could say I'm right back at where I was 10 years ago, in such a minuscule fraction of time. Well, I'd also need to get my hands on elemental staves.

It's interesting how I forgot certain things over time. For example, I made Castle Oztroja my home (to hunt for coffers when Kittycat wasn't there). I knew it like the palm of my hands, but I had to go exploring when I set foot in it again.

Now a question: why so many high level monsters were added to low level dungeons? I mean the 80-90 level monsters put right on the path of missions in low level dungeons.

They added those high level mobs a long, long time ago in an effort to provide some alternative leveling locations for players to use. Needless to say, the implementation is not without its flaws...

Well, I'd also need to get my hands on elemental staves.

You can get a Chatoyant Staff, which has all their traits, and uses the old elemental ones as ingredients - even the new Dissidia's Shantotto now uses that.

They were basically alternatives to Abyssea mobs for levelling, for the sake of players that didn't get those expansions.

I really want to play this game...but its so difficult between the square enix account, playonline, steam, and the game itself...wtf I have never seen something so complicated and not well explained.

So I registered the key steam gave me when I purchased the game on the Square Enix account website. The website gave me a playonline username (which is a bunch of character strings wtf)...

Anyway, I make ti all the way to the game client, after the ESRB rating it tells me I have no content ID.

Now I am stuck....

This is really frustrating just to be able to play a game...

It's pretty arcane.

Your POL ID/Username is that alphanumeric jumble that came with your purchase.
The Square Enix Account is a name you give yourself for Square Enix's account system, which is used for XI and XIV, and is also part of your XI login.
Content IDs are basically your subscription, and you need to register your game's reg code, which you unlocked from the square enix storefront when you redeemed your purchase, to your Square Enix account to activate your ingame character slot. If you did this while the game is running, you have to restart the game so it takes.

:( It shows my service account under FFXI (the string of characters) but I do not see where to register a ContentID...

Wonder if anyone has ever thought about modding the FFXIV controller cross hotbar UI and control scheme into XI? (I haven't played since Nov '11 so excuse me if this is already a thing).

I came back to the game with the goal of making pld as a main job, hopefully finish aegis by next week

I thiiiiink this is how to do it:

Click "List Subscriptions" and then you should have your FFXI account listed.
Click the "Options List" button.
Click the "Add new options" button.

Since I've gone through it recently (yes, it's a pain), did you "add new options" from the Service and Options page on the website? You have to do that, basically adding a character slot, to get a content-ID to be able to play. You'll have to register a pay method, though obviously you won't be charged, and you'll be able to pick how many character slots you want. Once you've done that, you'll have your content ID that you can link to your account in the playonline client (although it should do that itself when you'll try to play FF11 once you have the content ID).

Shouldn't the American version of the Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition include the Chocobo Shirt and Destrier Beret? Or is it only the European one?

Thanks guys. Yes, it looks like I had to register a credit card and all that jazz...

Now once I get past the opening cinematic I get error code POL-0515 Connection terminated or not available. :/ It feels like I am destined to not try this out.

I get that error too sometimes if I don't accept quickly at the start and go to the login screen (I have this bad habit of hitting play and minimizing the window while it loads to read stuff). I'd say skip the intro if you've already watched it so you can get to the login screen and hopefully you won't get the error.

You can also set the game to skip the intro altogether from the (separate) configuration utility.

It does indeed.

Looks like the NA SE store didn't give me the codes then. Hopefully I'll manage to get them.

I've heard of that being an issue a couple times when ordering it from the SE store, but you should be able to get them, even if you need to contact SE support to do so.

If you do need to, I recommend their live chat.

I plan starting this one up soon - currently playing FF I, FF VII and FF XIV - but are there anyone else in here who are new to this? And will I have enough time to complete the whole story?

You're looking at 5 or 6 Final Fantasies worth of story content if you do all of the expansions. So maybe 6 times the amount of time it takes to play VII to beat all of the expansions at minimum.

Depends on how aggressively you push through the content and how efficient you are at gearing your character. XI is all about your gear, whether or not you have an interest in endgame. Fortunately the game introduced two new currencies (Sparks and Accolates) that shortcut you to a workable set of gear at almost every level if you do the correct quests and keep your income of Sparks/Accolades steady.

Getting to 99 without an exp campaign up (one is about to end) will take a week-ish, depending on luck/help doing the limit break quests that let you get past 50/55/60/etc.

Once you're 99 with a leveled subjob you can get Rank 10, all the Zilart Missions and all the Chains of Promathia missions done in about a month of fairly casual play.

Treasures of Aht Urghan Missions are gated behind a lot of Midnight JST waits between sections, so that's about two weeks on its own. Plus you're gated on finding equipment/crafting materials that can be scarce on low-pop realms (being in a big linkshell helps here).

Wings of the Goddess Missions can be done in a weekish but it is a slog. Give yourself 2 weeks and space it out. There are a LOT of them and it's a ton of running around, moreso than Zilart.

Seekers of Adoulin missions can take a while. Several missions are gated behind progressing through Coalition Quests, which consume resources that accrue at the rate of 3 per 24 hours. So maybe two weeks to get through the soloable parts, and however long it takes to get help for the fights that are more difficult to solo.

Rhapsodies (the finale mission line) requires significant progress through all of the above to advance to the end, and on its own takes another week-ish to get through the soloable parts, and then you hit Reisenjima and need help for the rest of the missions like any other mortal.

To see all of the major mission content I'd give myself about 3 months, starting from scratch and playing every day. Any less than that and you're going to grind yourself down to a nub with the tedium of the travel time (Wings), badly designed escort missions (CoP) and Midnight JST waits (ToAU).

There is also a ton of story content buried in the questlines, and there are hundreds that provide actual lore. Depends on your commitment to gathering relatively scarce resources that were once plentiful back when this game was much more active. Again, being in a big linkshell with people who can craft what you need is a bonus for getting through the lore in FFXI.

Is Absolute Virtue actually killable now?

Last time I played this at a high level was farming Skadi gear, then most people I played with stopped caring.

Absolute Virtue is pretty easily soloable now.

I need to get allied notes to grab some Trusts they have available for the new year campaign... but I'm confused about how to start doing it.
I've been at a Maw, watched the cutscene, came back, talked to Joachim in Jeuno who sent me to Tahrongi Maw, but that one got me into Abyssea, where I started killing some tough stuff for pitiful exp until a NM appeared from nowhere to kick my ass at 3k a pop (a look at the wikia told me the NM is a non aggro invisible NM that will aggro yellow HP).

Man, that sounds like a ton of work, and I'm not even sure I can complete FF VII within the month. I just want the main storyline. Hmm, I'll try my best. Are there still people in here helping out?
