Follow the Leader only a year later sounds much closer to hip-hop now than 80s hip-hop

Really ahead of it's time

Without a doubt. I actually listened to it first, and it might be a better album, but I prefer paid in full because, like I said, it got me into some more primitive, pioneering music.

Tonight's paper writing playlist (my selections stolen from HRD's list. Hadn't heard the first two, they were GREAT):

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
Dalek - Abandoned Language
Ghostface Killah - Ironman
Kool G Rap - 4, 5, 6
Roc Marciano - Marcberg
Danny Brown - XXX

That reminds me. I downloaded OJ & Kush a while back. Need to give that spin. Remember it being a pain in the ass to find a decent quality link to it.

Kastrioti

Persecution Complex
Check out the artists on my list, here I'll start you off:

Thanks a lot man, will check them all out. Forgot about Wiz K, he belongs in the same category as Curren$y in terms of chilled out, faded hip hop.

Action Bronson is also there. As an Albanian its awesome to see Albanian rapper doing good in a positive way musically. Most American Albanian rap is disgraceful, IMO.

Its a surprise in the fact that the two albums are so different, produced in a small amount of time. Takes talent to flip the switch and do a 180 creatively.

Pretty sure Ezno has never heard Paid in Full
I pretty much had to when so much of the music I like had references to it or samples.

And I LOVE it. It's never made me check out other work from them or Rakim alone though, but I hold it in pretty high regard. I think it's an essential listen to get context on modern rap in terms of influences just as Illmatic is.
