Can someone explain to me how this didn't pass when it was such a smaller bill compared to ACA? I mean, it was SO SMALL!

Obama had a lot more goodwill and political capital going into the ACA and pretty much burned all of it getting it through. Trump had nothing.

I see it already.

"Obama hacked freedom caucus, hold ransom for yes vote in leak emails from Wikileaks. Trump is vindicated as evidence on Hilary's role in Bengazhi builds"
Per NYT:

"The Democrats" will happily take credit for handing you a defeat, dude.

I hope this CNN party gets archived and put on the internet somewhere so that I can watch it when I get home.

Man. Wish I could duck out early today.

The main problem, and they will never admit it though....

their starting line was "get rid of any taxes apart of obamacare"

"well we can't cover people"

"Just tell them free market"

I don't get it. Why did Trump think he could ram this through so quickly? Is that how he's used to things working in the business world?

I'm happy, but at the same time this is just going to galvanize the GOP base. When you live in that bubble, it's easy to see this as "increasing evidence" that "socialism" is something you can't "take back" and that once you give handouts people will obstruct everything in order to keep it.

I'm also not entirely sure what this means for the ACA moving forward.

Trump didn't have a choice. Wait any longer and there wouldn't be a chance to pass it through a budget reconciliation process, and the Democrats could filibuster it to death.

The bill had a 17% approval rating, huge amounts of republicans hated it.

Trump, as bad as he is doing is nowhere near that level of disapproval.

Not even Nixon at the height of watergate was that bad.
