Well it doesn't seem to be the true center. Probably a dry air pocket in one of the bands. but it is cool looking. I dont think the storm is organized enough to form a true eye.

Just saying, but it looks like that tropical depression and katia are going to collide over Boston or near there.

Who is Brian anyway?
Also, when this hits the Boston area it will be a bunch of rain if it even makes it up that way. More likely it will help push Katia off shore and keep her recurving out to sea.

Brian O. Crazy Mother and his Brother was chasing Irene live in North Carolina
were you here for that it filled many pages of this thread

I love the skies of the South the clouds always look so low to the ground

I would be 100% satisfied is Katia stayed out in the Atlantic period. Hurricanes scare the living hell out of me. Especially since Irene was just a TS when she hit and I lost power for 4 days, almost had a tree come hurling trough my house, and just felt so nerve wracked the whole time.

Hah, you wouldn't have survived how nerve-wrecked Katrina made me.

No I didn't follow the exploits of Brian O.

I agree with the skies. Lots of stratus and it looks pretty cool with all the scud.

From radar it sure seems to have a westward wobble to it. Bands reaching into Texas. Enjoy the rain, guys.

He's about to go on the 18 mile bridge over the biggest (and best) swamp in North America.
Wait, why did he get off at Whiskey Bay?

It does. I think the Atchafalaya bridge is like 3rd or 4th.
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway used to be but it was usurped by a Chinese Bridge this year.

Hes above one of the best fishing spots around here.
The view from that bridge in the morning is absolutely gorgeous by the way.

oh yeah I heard about the China bridge

Brian really knows very little about weather he just love to go out in them
I would fear to fish with gators... I watched this series http://www.history.com/shows/swamp-people
it was amazing

I thought Brian was stupid with Irene... there was a gas station across from Popeye's
and he is out in this with a cold/infection = very stupid

Gators generally wont mess with you if you dont fish near them. My brother actually hooked one on purpose last month and filmed a bit of it. It was awesome. It is incredibly beautiful and tranquil out there in the swamp early morning when the air is still cool.

It must be awesome to grow up near and get use to nature like that... Swamps are beautiful - scares me but still awesome places

can't wait for Brian to try the USF vs ND game again

There's a good reason I love it so much here. But it is definitely something you have to love a lot. But it's not like Lafayette or any nearby towns are IN the swamp. They are on the other side of a levee that borders it. It does make for a really unique place to live though. I wouldn't trade Louisiana for anywhere else in the world.

so this is an eyes little rain without problems so far in LA?

waiting for next update tracks on Katia
at201112_ensmodel.gif
Yeah pretty much a storm has to be Cat 2 at least for people to really freak out about it. Although people WILL take precautions for a Cat 1.

ever since the beginning the track has been curving north without hitting land

but still inching closer... waiting for those purple/pink lines to show up

it it goes up the coast again I don't think people can even take it as a TS or TD after Irene messed up lots of areas up the coast even without wind damage too much water

Louisiana survived a double hit by Rita and Katrina in the same year so I'm certain the northeast will be fine.

We're gonna get a ton of rain up here from Lee too...

Make sure to keep in mind people that the pink line ensemble is only the GFS model runs.

Yeah, so it isn't raining at all right now in New Orleans. Went to the stock to get some stock in food and bottled water. We aren't going to go to the North Shore as it looks as if there are more tornado warnings up there than in Orleans Parish. GF is making gumbo and I get to watch the LSU game tonight so I'm happy.

Oh, Cajun, came down 10 years ago to go to UNO for naval architecture/marine engineering. Met a girl. Damn those southern women!

Just got power back from Irene this morning in Connecticut. Wasn't supposed to come back until Sunday night either, so this was early.

I've been cutting up a big tree that fell into my neighbor's yard all day, now I'm dead tired.

Glad you are enjoying it here.

Lol been here so long that its now split between the Saints and Pats.

Emergency broadcast just came in over the radio saying massive squalls are now moving in and will dump 1 to 2 inches an hour. As a reference, city pumps can handle 1 inch per hour.

TROPICAL STORM KATIA DISCUSSION NUMBER 23
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL122011
500 PM AST SAT SEP 03 2011

DVORAK INTENSITY ESTIMATES HAVE FALLEN THROUGH THE DAY AND ARE NOW
T3.0/4.0 FROM TAFB AND T3.5/3.5 FROM SAB. BASED ON THE STRUCTURE
NOTED IN EARLIER MICROWAVE DATA...IT APPEARS THAT KATIA HAS
WEAKENED SOME AND AGAIN IS A TROPICAL STORM. FLUCTUATIONS IN
INTENSITY BY 5 TO 10 KT ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE NEXT DAY OR SO...BUT
THIS FACT WILL ONLY BE MORE APPARENT THAN USUAL SINCE THE INTENSITY
WOULD BE OSCILLATING AROUND THE 65-KT HURRICANE THRESHOLD.

IT CANNOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH THAT THERE IS CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY
IN THE TRACK FORECAST...WHICH IS EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO THE
EVOLUTION OF TROPICAL STORM LEE AND ITS INTERACTION WITH A MID-
TO UPPER-LEVEL LOW OVER THE EASTERN UNITED STATES. THE MODEL
GUIDANCE IS IN PRETTY GOOD AGREEMENT DURING THE FIRST 36 HOURS OR
SO...BUT THE DIVERGENCE ONLY GROWS FROM THERE. COMPARED TO THE
PREVIOUS FORECAST CYCLE...THE UKMET HAS SHIFTED TO THE NORTH AND
THE GFS HAS SLOWED DOWN...WHICH NORMALLY WOULD HAVE INCREASED
CONFIDENCE IN THE FORECAST. FURTHERMORE...THE ECMWF...WHICH IS
NORMALLY RELIABLE...SWUNG FROM THE NORTH AND EAST SIDE OF THE
GUIDANCE TO THE SOUTH AND WEST SIDE...SHOWING A MORE WESTWARD
MOTION BY DAY 5. THE OFFICIAL TRACK FORECAST HAS BEEN NUDGED A BIT
TO THE WEST TOWARDS THE VARIOUS CONSENSUS MODELS...BUT WE WOULD
RATHER SEE SOME STABILITY IN THE MODELS BEFORE MAKING A LARGER
SHIFT.

NEEDLESS TO SAY...THE INTENSITY FORECAST IS ALSO COMPLEX. KATIA HAS
NOT BEEN STRENGTHENING AS ANTICIPATED...AND UPPER-LEVEL WINDS DO
NOT APPEAR AS THOUGH THEY WILL BE CONDUCIVE FOR SIGNIFICANT
INTENSIFICATION FOR THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HOURS. THE UPPER-LEVEL
ENVIRONMENT AROUND KATIA BECOMES MORE UNCERTAIN AFTER
THAT TIME DEPENDING ON THE POSITIONING OF THE EASTERN U.S.
MID-/UPPER-LEVEL LOW. THE STATISTICAL SHIPS AND LGEM MODELS DO NOT
STRENGTHEN KATIA BEYOND CATEGORY 1 STATUS WHEREAS THE GFDL AND HWRF
STILL SHOW THE STORM REACHING MAJOR HURRICANE STRENGTH. THE
OFFICIAL INTENSITY FORECAST IS STILL NEAR OR JUST ABOVE THE
INTENSITY CONSENSUS...ESPECIALLY AT DAYS 4 AND 5.

FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS

Well you cant go wrong with either lately. Some Ex-Patriot players have said that being on the Saints feels very similar in terms of locker room, coaching, quality of the facilities, etc.

By the way, how is your Fusion doing? Mine is sitting out front, getting a good washing.

Doing great. No dents or dings thus far, though I have a nasty crack in the windshield due to the large amount of dump trucks we have in the area.

About time to hit the dash with some more armor all soon while I still can. Also tempted to get a sun shade as it sits in the sun all day long at work, but it's gone almost a whole summer with no ill effects so we'll see about that one.

Easily the best and my favorite vehicle I've ever driven, and that's saying something since I almost bought a Mustang instead.

Is it just me being hopelessly desperate or are Lee's rain bands inching closer to Houston? I'm in hot-as-fuck Corpus right now so I can't tell. H-Town GAF, report!
Should be raining in the eastern part of the Houston sprawl right now looking at the radar.

Need someone on the ground to confirm.
