Gonna spend more on Kickstarting than buying games this year

Let's do this!

edit: or to phrase this another way, Gamers, put your fucking money where your mouth is

Gonna spend more on Kickstarting than buying games this year

I already have. KS is pretty much the reason 2013 will kick ass for games, in general, even despite big budget gaming otherwise deflating rapidly, in terms of interesting and exciting output, leaving the gaming landscape to be pretty stark in terms of contrasts between types of experiences. That's a good thing and can only continue as more people get bored with the AAA schema.

Aura Tactics looks pretty interesting

I certainly thought so. More tactics games certainly isn't a bad thing, and their demo is interesting. (I don't know If I'd call it good, but the ideas are sound.) It's also ending friday, so if you want to jump on it, now's the time.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
If I'd get a few thousands of € each month as wage, I'd kickstart the hell out of every single project listed in the OP. God, I love this trend.

Yeah, the demo is really rough, but I think it's worth a punt.

A great majority of those only pledged so they could troll Bartlett (and boy howdy, are they). You cannot comment on the page unless you donate. They know full well that they are in no danger of actually having to pay anything.

The only reason I have not pledged a dollar is because I'm not that mean.

Oh. Well, I guess I hate some amount of people less.

Good idea for the thread. I'm not really one to help kickstart, but they're slowly winning me over with all the stuff you can get for helping them... and I'm a sucker for limited/collectible stuff.

I was considering backing the Jane Jensen project until I read this on their kickstarter page: "Jane is known for games with complex, dark plotlines ala Dan Brown." Ah, well then, no thanks.

Buy this. You'll change your mind after playing it.

edit: They actually changed that part. It now says:
Jane is known for games with complex, dark plotlines. She created the Gabriel Knight adventure game series at Sierra On-Line and the recent Gray Matter.

Apologies I had some trouble yesterday so I could not update., I added all the kickstart projects listed and made a few recommended changes from gaffers (the links go to kickstart now instead.), also:

iQv5W8KKQeR60.png

Posting in this format would really help the thread:

- Title of the Kickstarter project with link
- Deadline and target
- Short paragraph about the game (you can just copy the first few lines off the kickstart page)
- any pic's/video's would be nice

Example:

Auditorium 2: Duet

Target: $60,000
Deadline: Apr1

Auditorium 2: Duet is a sequel to the amazing Auditorium. Duet has cooperative mode added to it. It also uses Steam to it's fullest, taking advantage of their matchmaking, multiplayer, leaderboard, and achievements framework; and has Mac and PC support.

Great thread! You should also leave a link for kickingitforward.org, since it is a good source to find game projects. There are already 32 projects listed there and it's growing rapidly.

added link.

added link.

You listed Takedown twice.

thanks removed.

Gnilley - The Yelling Game
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/radix/gnilley-the-yelling-game

added.

Takedown is listed twice in your list.

yeah someone said it already.

added link.

Do Kickstarters for game making tools count?
Spriter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/539087245/spriter?ref=live

If it's gaming related, then yes :)

takedown is 2 times on the list

yeah two people already mentioned it....

Is there going to be a section for the unsuccessful projects?

wish I had more space :|

added.

Probably one of the weirdest game presentations on Kickstarter

Yogventures by The Yogscast and Winterkewl Games LLC
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/winterkewlgames/yogventures

(includes lots of cursing and a shout out to Notch)

added.

This isn't a Kickstarter project, but IndieGoGo (which is like a Kickstarter knockoff mostly used by people outside the US).

http://youtu.be/ij4-hhAxC-g

Malevolence - The Sword of Ahkranox

http://www.indiegogo.com/Malevolence

Basically a 3D first person Rogue-like with an infinite world.

Only wanted $8000, probably not going to make it, 9 days left only $1000

added. Also added to other links section for the IndieGoGo site

Devil Gene R, a Visual Novel made in the US of A
http://kck.st/GZ0wDF

Not gaming related.

Yogventures video is fucking brilliant.
May throw them a few bones even though I'd never play it.

I want to donate to The Dead Linger, but I am waiting for a future video that gives me a better idea of what they are trying to do.

EDIT: Actually, after reading their KS page more in-depth, it sounds like Yogsventures is trying to be serious instead of the metacommentary that I thought it was trying to be.

EDIT 2: Dead Linger is gonna be the next to get funded.

EDIT 3:

Ron Paul: Road to REVOLution
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1339254269/ron-paul-road-to-revolution?ref=category

Target: $5,000
Deadline: April 30th

Play as Ron Paul in this 2D sidescroller as you collect coins, delegates, and fight the evil FED!

Yogventures looks good at least the artwork does. Game is in Pre-Alpha so obviously they jus started on making the game. Really hope the graphics nails down the artwork because it looks great. Also that Ron Paul game has already been funded lol

EXPO-Fighter

Target: $18,000
Deadline: May 31

A neogaf inspired fighting game planned to be free to play browser based. Inspired by the silliness of events surrounding E3 you take the role of one of many industry personality inspired characters and do battle to decide the fate of the console wars.

The game format is 2D gameplay with 3D exaggerated graphics style. Support for local and online multiplayer is planned along with a faction based ranking system.

Here's another little project about a pseudo-JRPG, SNES style:

It looks decent, maybe even promising to some extent, but geez, their "harangue" for the need of a game like this puts me off in so many ways...

Our goal with Echoes of Eternia is to reignite the memories and nostalgia that Gamer's have toward retro games. We feel that lately, RPG Video Games have been forgotten and have been too westernized. RPG's have lost their appeal and their heritage. We are looking to change that. We want to prove that RPG's haven't been forgotten and still hold a special place in our memories.

We will accomplish this by making Echoes of Eternia as good as possible and spreading knowledge of it as far as we can. We truly want to revive this genre and show those who have forgotten just what they are missing. We want people to play Echoes of Eternia and for it to remind them of the Golden Days of gaming on the Super Nintendo.

We need Arcanum 2 and Vampire: Bloodlines 2 kickstarters.

If Wasteland and Shadowrun can be kickstarted these should too.

College-Ruled Universe looks really pretty, but it's not going to make the deadline, damn.

Edit: Oh wait, I misread. Yay!

Project lead claims it's his "first video game", scope claims "30+ hours of gameplay", no one listed as a programmer on their team so chances are it's just the head designer, currently in pre-production, "fully voice acted" on a $10,000 budget, "we are trying our hardest to get this game on XBLA" with no mentions of publishers and no one on the team having any experience working with publishers.

*rolleyes*

This is like, the perfect storm of scope creep insanity that wrecks most projects.

Plus they are determined to do all that while being the saviors of the genre, when what they are wanting to do is only contributing to the problem and not a remotely viable solution.

It's the same reason that I can't take the Class of Heroes project all that seriously.

I can't take Pinkerton Road seriously due to its scope, and how they are PRing Jensen(?). I can't take Your World seriously for obvious reasons, and I couldn't take Takedown seriously.

But you know what? That's sort of the beauty of Kickstarter; that longshots can put up a page asking for donations. That people can put their dreams up for crowd-vote.

What happens if they don't get funded? Do people get their money back?

Yeah, I'm willing to let his presentation slide because he seems like he's the type of guy that will learn on the job, but the lack of programmer is concerning.

here another by team notion 2d side scrolling beat up which they claim to play like streets of rage 2 teen age mutant turtles and double dragons.

3,000 for PC and mac the other stuff down the line seem way too much.

I kind of want to back the JRPG thing just to see how bad it'll end up being.

The problem is he's a college undergrad in games design. most likely he's using friends from his course as well to help program, if we ever see the project it's going to very late on arrival and probably underwhelming.

Although I do want to be proven wrong.
