Wow, I remember when this campaign first started and so many media and people were proclaiming to be one of the best kickstarters ever (whatever that means).
And to go from that to now, what a turnaround.
The biggest issue has obviously been the lack of good transparency. People appreciate honesty and it sounds like this team just has not delivered on that note. I don't know if its because it is a Japan developer and whomever they got to manage PR really sucks at it or something. Or if it is that Inafune really isn't a good developer or communicator after all.
The thing I look for in kickstarters is if it is a "Labor of Love" for the developers, which usually means they've taken their own time and funds to start something and are clearly very devoted to the goal and have a solid idea of how it should work out. Maybe it is hindsight, but I'm not sure I got that vibe from this campaign.
To me, the Mighty No. 9 kickstarter felt more like capitalizing on consumer dissatisfaction over the handling of Mega Man by Capcom and trying to cash in on the want for such a game. I never got the idea that Inafune was really truly devoted to the project and the fact that they showed nothing in their kickstarter pitch aside from concept art (which they never even matched in-game) was a red flag for me. But it seemed many ignored the lack of a plan by the team.
Well, will be interesting to see what the final outcome of this turns out being.
