Mortal Kombat Character Select Screen Leaked (Spoilers) [Update: Stage Renders]

Quan Chi doesn't look that menacing. He looks spaced out. Kratos looks like Quan Chi killed his daughter or something...well he always look like that.

Whoever said it before is right: they need to get the Mortal Kombat movie theme song in this game. I don't care if they have to bundle it in DLC -- JUST DO IT.

EDIT: Else I may need to just get the 360 version and play it on loop.

Quan Chi never looked menacing to be honest. Just an evil, Machiavellian dude with tattoos and skin discoloration. Baraka scares me though.

I haven't been this excited about MK since Shaolin Monks and before that was MK4 which was a disappointment. I was really hoping that MK go back to 2d after seeing SF4 and I'm glad it did.

Especially when looking in the mirror.

I am pretty sure the PS3 version wil allow you to put custom soundtracks in the game and assign it to where you want it to play :0

True custom soundtrack integration like Wipeout HD and PGR3? Not enough games do this and just opt for the lazy OS-level custom soundtracks from the guide/XMB. That is fucking AWESOME!

EB Games, closest retailer to my job and Scorpion classic get up DLC, uh yeah
Boon said on twitter that the costumes will be available in the Krypt and not as DLC :-D. I'm guessing that they will be unlockable via code, and within the first day, I'm sure the unlock codes for all the costumes will be available online.

The one thing i hated about MVC3 is the lack of stages, only had 9 with 30 something characters? Cmon...and all these leaks are making the wait harder!

That's a really nice group of stages. I find it impressive how much content seems to be packed into the game for day 1. Seems like NRS really went back to the drawing board and focused on quality over quantity as far as some of the other crazy modes and such we've seen in MK games as of recent.

Oh man, I feel like I'm on a playground in the 90's

I didn't mean it as a jab to SF, more like a jab at SF, BB, T6, VF5, BF, and the rest.

DARN, WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EDIT! :(

Weren't there over 40 stages in Smash Bros Br--*gets shot*
Technically, yep:
29 stages + 2 simple/specials (Pictochat/Electroplankton) + 10 from previous games + Customs

Quantity-wise it has more though.

I think _dementia was taking a shot at most other "big" fighters, like Marvel 3 that has like 8 stages.

Does each of them have a stage fatality?
That's a good question. Some of them don't have any obvious fatal hazards, like the Shaolin Temple.

But most of them do have hazards. Check out Khan's badass pet. It'd be cool to see that thing chow down on somebody.

I hope MK9 goes big so Capcom feels compelled to deliver as much content on release

Same here. Capcom, smelling themselves after SF4's success, has done a lot to make themselves too "comfortable". And that could easily set themselves up for the fall (again), if they don't pay attention.

I'll never understand why they feel the need to release multiple versions of the same game. I'd be pissed if I were an SF fan and had to buy the same game over and over. I thought we were done with that shit after the 90's. But anyway, that's for another thread I guess.

I've been in that convention center many times and I think the font of the signs and stuff just gave it away for me, haha.

Just noticed, I think Scorpion is hiding way in the back on that picture.

Man those are terrible costumes. It's like the porn parody of MK. Actually, even the recent porn parodies (Batman, Star Trek) have been better quality than that.

Well, if Boon and dem truly do live up to the promise of a fighting game that can support itself for the rest of the gen (thanks to patch updates and timely DLC updates)? It will be a thing that Capcom will have to recognize a new trend that especially the Western demographic will come to expect, going forward. Capcom may be forced to adapt as such kicking and screaming, but they'll have to recognize. :lol

Any way, I believe the best and easily the most exciting thing about this game, can be boiled down to how a friend of mine put it on SRK: This fighting game is an American-made production. It's being made distinctly for US. It's not a hand-me-down port of a Japanese arcade game, which was originally constructed for a different type of gaming crowd altogether.

And if worse comes to worse, I can be guaranteed that Boon, Sanchez and the rest will actually understand me if I have a problem with their game. :lol

As someone that lives in St. Louis, NRS is actually the closest major developer to my physical location, and I think that counts for something!

All of the design decisions are coming from a midwest perspective :)

Megacon is in Orlando right? Yeah, that carpet screams Florida. Thats where I met my wife :D

Impressed with the backgrounds, they look good and wow, 30 of them! Gotta give them respect there.

The courtyard is awesome! These stages are really cool. God why can't it be 4/19 yet. Time to go play the demo again.
My favorite is the graveyard. It was featured in the Noob reveal video. I don't know what that green column in the background is, but it certainly looks awesome.

Yup, in Orlando. Did you meet her in Orlando or at Megacon? Haha.

Wat. How? How does Mortal Kombat doing well mean that people who are currently buying Capcom fighting games and DLC will stop doing so? Capcom's success is completely independent of Mortal Kombat. The two are not mutally exculsive.

I get the feeling that they're going to be ignoring a lot of the continuity for this game.

New cannon, new story is around the lines of Shaolin Monks in the sense that is a retelling of the original story, rather than a full "what if" situation.

Read some parts of the beginning of the story mode (couldn't resist); and situations of characters were changed; characters that were not in that MKI tournament are now in the tournament, reasons of some of the characters for being there were changed too,...all that on top of the changes that Raiden is trying to make because of his visions.

Yep, the entire premise of the story is that it's a retcon. Don't be surprised to see some unlikely alliances and what not in the story mode.
