That way you can party on a board while at the same time be to the extreme in the office.

Wait, slow down... so you said vans WITH the suit? *scribbling down on a notepad*

good thing you made the right choice and got out of the office environment.. you seem to be not cut out for it.

So what if everyone wore pink spandex on fridays? :lol
:lol I'd have the greatest topic ever to be posted on Gaf if one of my co-workers ever did that. He would have to rock a purple fanny pack and a tie die shirt as well. He'd have to.

But I'm sure spandex is against most companie's dress codes for an office environment anyway.

I sound like an elitist because I choose not to observe a new, stupid tradition that presidents and CEOs grudgingly put into place? What competent company boss doesn't want his/her employee to come to work dressed professionally, if not openly at least secretly?

you're a jackass/loser/person others don't want to be around/etc.

Don't dress down. Fuck 'em. Do your own thing and let all these office snobs who bicker about petty shit suck the boss' dick under the table to get their measly two-dollar-an-hour more promotion. You work your mojo with those suits.

I totally wouldn't be surprised if the OP's co-workers were doing some playful hazing and the OP took it as a serious threat.

He's going to be miserable and obsessing about his Redline stapler.

The co-workers were probably kidding around with him since he is new... and judging from the character he's displayed so far, I'd say he's probably over-reacting to their comments.
Looking down on people who dress down on the appropriate day for it...is snobby. Considering yourself above said people because they participate, is pretentious. Thinking that non-participation will get you ahead, is petty.

I see this as stupid on both ends. It's stupid your co-workers care that much, and it's stupid that you care so much to dress professionally.

If your management thinks a clean shirt and nice pants are more important then the work you put out (assuming you don't work with customers) then they're not very smart.

Highly unlikely.

He got called out on not being a team-player. Which is not a good sign if you just started working somewhere.

The fact is, he chose to work there. You don't have to like it, but you have to respect their workplace culture. If everyone else takes Casual Friday seriously, you sure as shit better do the same. He's making waves and pissing people off at a brand new job. Odds are good he's going to get pulled into an office one day real soon and told that "this isn't working out" and he should seek employment elsewhere.

How are they stupid? He's being an asshat. If they were privy to the thoughts he's expressed here he'd be out of a job.

EDIT: Read the thread. The OP is a dick, and you're right, he would be out of a job.

I like how some of you are gleefully predicting I'll lose my job.

All the higher-ups wear suits regardless of what day it is. If my direct manager comes to me again about this dress down bullshit, all I have to do is walk into any one of their offices and explain to them the situation. I'm sure they'll sympathize being professionally dressed, SUCCESSFUL earners.

A wise man once said, "Don't dress where you are, dress where you want to be." That's rare wisdom you won't get everyday on GAF, folks, so remember it, chums.

If you think they're going to invite you anywhere based on what you wear, friend, you have a lot to learn about the working world. Now, I don't think you're going to lose your job over wearing a suit, but you can potentially lose it for being a condescending douchebag to your co-workers.

Also: You get bonus points for being this uppity about wearing nice clothes to the office on principle while posting with a screenname that has "Booger" in it.

:lol

You have a point, but you know what? You are not a higher-up, you are a nobody, a peon paid to do the job that makes them money. And no, they will not sympathize with you for the sole reason you are not being a team player, not following a local office policy, and for the sole fact that you are an uptight guy that is like a porn girl looking to ravage some dick to gain some money. That's the way I see it.

I'd love to hear how you would handle this.

Here is the simple fact. If your co-workers don't like you, you're out of a job. Period. Especially considering you just started work there. And believe me, if they want to fire you it won't have anything (officially) to do with a refusal to dress down on Friday.

You don't have the position or place that your head tells you you do. You are a tooth on a cog who thinks he should be winding the watch.

As many others have said, not being a team player guarantees that you never will be a higher up.

The person you've turned out to be is disgusting.

You have to have good reason to fire somebody and not dressing casually isn't good reason. They have to point out that he's not a team player and ignoring DDF doesn't mean you are not a team player. If the DDF isn't mandatory then he is safe.

And we really don't know anything about OP's job so it might even be that you don't have to be a team player to rose up in the ranks.

Yup. Would never fly in HR. Companies are scared shit of lawsuits. However, OP would have to be completely on point at his job.

I'm saying... do your job better than everyone else, and there is nothing anyone can do. You just have to accept that your co-workers are going to make your job harder for you, and you are going to be in a spiteful/grudge environment.

My company has the clause. It is possible that the supervisor can just say "we don't need you anymore", but he is a new employee and there had to be a reason to hire him in the 1st place. But that rule is not that black and white. There has to be some reason. He has rights!
