Just watch the whole damn run. One Piece anime is great most of the time. You can skip the filler if you must, though some of it is quite good, some of it is quite bad as well. Post timeskip the only truly awful non-canon™ material was the film Z tie in stuff, while the film gold tie in event was actually quite pleasant.

The pacing isn't really a problem if you marathon the show as if you skip the openings and recaps most episodes are only 15 minutes long anyways!

I finally powered through Fishman Island. It eclipsed Thriller Bark as the low point for me. Maybe it's just because Sabaody through Marineford were all great. Liking Punk Hazard so far.

Lowest for me was actually an early arc, albeit small by comparison.

Long Ring Long Land Arc. Yeah, it has Afro Luffy, but it was the only time where I felt like there was filler in the manga.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

That was such a fun arc though. Not just because of Afro Luffy either. It had the true soul of the series - silly adventure, pirate shenanigans, awesome character interactions, and then BAM! Aokiji at the end.

Now we move into some transitional episodes showing us what's happening to a few familiar faces around the world.

Wasn't the argument for not animating the cover stories that they would lose viewers when showing episodes without the Straw Hats / Luffy? They have to do it for the main story now anyway...

I guess they frame the upcoming episodes with Luffy etc. on a ship like they did with the Strawhats-episodes during the War. I don't get why they couldn't do that for the cover stories.
They would be further apart from the manga by now and could have shown some canon material that is barely fleshed out in the manga.

btw I find the elephant super intriguing still, now that I know he is a person/character. Same with the sea monsters.
What was his crime that punished him to wander around peacefully forever? Seems to be mostly self-imposed, too. Is he a certain species or someone who was turned into such a creature?

Always loved when she gets a new weapon

Can't wait for the next Arc and also can't wait to find out about certain things that have been teased during the Dressrosa/Zou transition like Burgess invading Baltigo and CP-0's appearance.

The pacing in One Piece is really great.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

Whoa that's not a very popular opinion lol. I have no qualms with the pacing..Well the anime kinda screws it up but in general it's fine

I'm not kidding. Just my opinion.

But I'm also not sure what people are expecting, after all these years. The pacing was always like this and I find it really good. Sure, Dressrosa was maybe a little too long, but it also was amazing.

I've seen way worse paced shows.

Yup.

Another dressrosa lover? You're alright in my book man. Arc gets some unnecessary shit

I also loved Dressrosa and I marathoned it in three parts, dropping it for months and then watching it all.

Week to week though I've actually quite enjoyed Zou, even the little fillery bits.

Having just marathoned it, shit was straight up amazing. You don't notice the pacing issues as near as much when you're not waiting week to week.
Dressrosa is so important to the story going forward. The number of characters introduced the amount of world building all on that single island.

Yea zou was great anime did it justice for all the moments I liked so I have no qualms

I mean, if you're talking about the anime that's straight up bullshit. Near the start the anime was going at around a 2-3 chapter an episode pace, and nowadays it averages less than one chapter per episode. The difference is huge and greatly hurts the material compared to the manga imo

This this so much this.
To give you an idea how bad it is. Dressrosa in the manga was 102 chapters, pretty long and not helped by Oda's hospitalization and mandatory breaks. Dressrosa in the anime was 118 episodes! That is unacceptable! With proper pacing, Dressrosa would be like 50 episodes.

Toei's hesitance to do filler arcs has put them in this position where they need to adapt as little as possible and pad the fuck out of everything. Watch long enough and you see patterns. Good example during Dressrosa is when Bellamy does his Spring Hopper. In the manga, he starts it, punches Luffy, and it cuts away for a few chapters until we see Luffy beat him with a flashback to how it happened. In the anime, EVERY EPISODE has to dedicate like 90 seconds to the same scene every time every time EVERY TIME. Not even as part of the overly long recap. Seriously it takes five and a half minutes every week to start an episode because of the really long intro, the opening spiel, and the really long recap.
I'm not expecting Jojo pacing, but this is why so many people have fallen off the anime and dove into the manga. Toei don't care though, they get ratings, they get merch sales, they get money.

There's a reason things like One Pace exist.

Just need to give her a depressing backstory and then she can join.

Nah, she's fine as she is. I love that she's just a free spirit adventurer looking for fun. She's the save the drama for your mama kind of badass female that One Piece has always lacked. Make her an apprentice ala Buggy/Shanks and let her come on board as the official mink representative.

I am fully aboard the Carrot for Strawhat train.

They don't need it nor is her being a mink make her special.

Nor why does the Straw Hats have to be like Roger crew, they should be their own thing.

Luffy outright says when he meets the minks "It's an island full of Choppers."

Chopper fills the animal quota.

what makes her special is that she's essentially a female East Blue Luffy. That alone makes her worthwhile to have in the crew. I think she'd be a great addition and worthy crewmember given her abilities and free spirit and love of adventure. Fuck animal quotas. She fits the badass physical female quota.

We have Luffy for this, gender doesn't matter.

What's special about her that other crew mates don't share?

Hell her design isn't special it's just...bunny girl.

We have unique members that are reindeer, robots, skeleton and eventual whale shark man that uses sumo tech.

Nami and Robin can be badass when they want to be so that doesn't matter.

I just think it's about time we get a new crew member tbh. It's been a long ass time since Brook. Sure, there's Jinbe, but who knows when he'll actually join. Then there's the alliance, but they all fucked off until it's convenient for them to show up.

So for those who bother watching the filler arcs, do Robin or Nami get any decent fight scenes? I'd watch them for that fact alone since the canon can't bother to deliver on that front.

Well we should have 1 more crew mate after Jinbei (Luffy says he wants 10 friends/crewmates, why would he include himself).

At this point I don't think Oda will just have a crew mate introduce in 1 arc and just join up, nor do I think Wano is a place to have another join due to the fact that arc will be a overly huge with some much going on it will be too much to include a whole new character we are meant to get attached to.

So the person has to be someone who is introduce, has a huge impressions, doesn't join immediately but later does ala Jinebi.

And I'm not talking about Monet because who cares.

I don't think a character needs to be established much before they join. Just look at Robin. She was pretty much unknown until she got her big arc over a hundred episodes later. Then there's Brook, who was practically confirmed the second he showed up.

I disagree. Gender matters a lot. One Piece has always struggled with female characters. Robin/Nami can be badass, but not in the way that Carrot can be. They're specialists. They're magic wizards at this point. And they're mature and cool collected. Carrot is their opposite in every way and that's a great thing. That's what makes her special. Honestly, there aren't any female characters that behave like her in the entirety of One Piece. She's a breath of fresh air among all the princesses and specialty lady fighters in this manga.

But honestly, she just fits the romantic pirate angle I've always loved about One Piece. Remember the opening words of the Opening 3:

The world. What a glorious place. Seek freedom and it will lie stretched out before your eyes. If the endless dream guides your restless spirit, seize it. RAISE your flag and stand tall!

That to me is what makes a strawhat a strawhat. You people can come up with all kinds of crazy stipulations and prerequisites, but any badass female who thinks of encountering a yonkou as "fun" and just wants to be free and explore the unknown is Strawhat quality to me and her interactions with the greater crew as they explore the craziness of the One Piece world is why I think she's the best candidate this far into the story. I want to see her fuck around with the crew and fight and grow into her own character.

I can't remember either of them getting a fight scene in any filler. I vaguely recall Nami briefly engaging with the purple haired woman in the Ice Hunter arc.
The fillers are so short, and if there is some fighting, it mostly involves Luffy.

Carrot is their opposite in every way and that's a great thing. That's what makes her special. Honestly, there aren't any female characters that behave like her in the entirety of One Piece. She's a breath of fresh air among all the princesses and specialty lady fighters in this manga.

Carrot is similar to Marguerite and Camie, especially with the outgoing silly traits that Camie has and the "Action Girl" traits of Marguerite. She's not that special.

Seems like 3 people are mad, because I personally like the pacing. lol

It's sad that people actually focus on that, instead of the actual content of the last episode for example. But I guess many people here read the Manga, so they probably know what happens next and don't want to spoil, rightfully.

Manga readers don't worry about it.

I wonder if they'll do a filler arc next. Probably should

Idk, I feel like they can easily pad out this arc, considering
the amount of battles that are sorted out fairly quickly or summarized, like Luffy's fight against the biscuit soldier. The anime can easily give those moments more detail/padding.

Let me give you some examples from Dressrosa where they fucked up big moments, which only exacerbate the issues with the pacing sometimes.

One: Usopp's snipe against Sugar. They literally stretched out what was a couple pages in the manga into an entire episode. They inserted a completely unnecessary dream sequence where he imagined what would happen if he failed (everybody knows what Sugar does, they only spent 20 episodes on it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) and switched perspectives multiple times only to switch perspective back to Usopp using the exact same animation cut of him pulling the slingshot back. Multiple times.

Two:Luffy dealing the final blow to Doflamingo. They turned it into a power struggle when Luffy breaks right through Doflamingo's defenses like they're nothing.

Toei used to be pretty consistent on "delivering" on the big moments but then they go and do stuff like they did for the aforementioned huge moments in Dressrosa. Stuff like Zunisha wrecking Jack... 2 episodes ago? was really good but at the same time, you had like like 5 minutes of Luffy and Momonosuke screaming "WHOSE VOICE IS THIS" with repeated footage of Jack's boats shooting at Zunisha's leg.

What happens in One Piece isn't usually the problem with most adaptations where things happen in a short amount of time but are "dragged out" in the anime, but the issue is more the way they drag it out feels extremely forced because they add things that didn't exist to scenes in order to make them last longer, versus these people actually recording the lines and speaking to each other takes longer because they have to say the lines. I guess it bothers me more because I have read the manga, but I want it to be better than it is, because it deserves better. (Especially being fans of stuff like JoJo, My Hero Academia, etc. that all got really good adaptations.)

...I really want CyberConnect 2 to do for One Piece what they did for Naruto. The Ultimate Ninja Storm games are the best way to experience Naruto in an animated format. (Screw those motion comic anime cutscenes present in UNS4 though.)

Went throught the trouble to re-animate alabasta scenes once more, they could of took the easy & cheaper route of just using the 2000s old footage or the movie 8 footage.

Lots of the great art this week with mistui yoichi & others.

Loved the recap. Also, looking forward to the World Council/Reverie. Hopefully we get more insight of Mary Joa.

PS: Cobra got old. :O
