On the episode

It's pretty much a straight rip for of chapter 598, but I still enjoyed it. I'm surprised nobody's making a bigger deal of Zoro making it to Shakky's bar first, since that threw me off the first time.
Well he had to get it right eventually.

he spent the 2 years trying to find it

Opening is ok, nothing great.

I was hoping Brook would be dead somehow during the timeskip.

My God I hate Brook. But looks like that isn't happening according to the opening, lol.
Ah! But he's already dead. Skull jokeee! Yohohoho :lol

Usopp's motorboating of Nami was god like. :p

I agree with others on the OP being meh/okay, and I also feel the episode should have been an hour special or something. More, more, MORE!

One Piece is TOO good and too addictive. :)

Anyway awesome episode. Didn't feel slow and didn't get dragged down anywhere. Also that Nami gif is fucking awesome.

I loved the new designs for the most part, usopp, zoro and luffy look boss, the girls are definitely an upgrade too, sanji and chopper look pretty much the same, still on the fence on brook and franky, need to see more

Can't wait to see them fight

stuck my tongue deep inside Atlus' cookies
As per my post a couple pages back, I decided to start the series over again. Made it to about episode 300 several (~5) years ago but then stopped watching. So on my re-watch I just cleared Arlong, which means I'm getting close to my first Anime filler arc.

My question is... is ANY of the filler worth watching, or should I just skip all of it? I watched it all the first time around, and thought some of it was alright. I have a vague memory of one of the filler arcs actually being super good... almost as good as the main manga arcs. But I don't remember which one.

Add this to the OP please. I just started to get back into One Piece after a 2 year hiatus. It sucks jumping to a episode and then 15 minutes in you realize that you've already seen the episode. Happened to me last night when I jumped into episode 385. I dont remember how many episodes I saw after that 2 years ago.

Man you are all depressing people. Like 20 posts of "opening song is terrible." What do you people want? I thought it was pretty okay! Such criticism, such hate, such downers, the lot of you. Why can't we just love One Piece when it comes to us, why must there be such hurtful analysis.

Personally I think the new eyecatch is great, just because it's new. That's what I was looking forward to the most in this episode, so much has changed and the mechanics of the show would have to change because of it. New op, new eyecatch, changed Roger intro, new appearances for the whole cast, new new new!!!!! After 500 episodes I am fuckin READY. I don't care what is changed, I trust the dude behind it, change away.

I think the timeskip is actually kinda interesting, cause it gives Oda an opportunity to rebalance the crew as a unit. They were built piecemeal over so many years, now after the gap he can think "what aesthetic are we missing, what can be tweaked, how can this crew be more cohesive." The art style has evolved as time has gone on, and the Straw Hats were all so "normal" looking, this was a chance to make them even weirder, like all those rookies. Make Franky huge, give brooke a ridiculous outfit, etc. Bring them up to par with the overall aesthetic as it has evolved. They were some of the last holdovers, really.

I would agree with you, except for that one point. The second generation eyecatches were great because they had character, whereas the new one just has characters. Would it really have been that hard to make a five second clip for each member of the crew? I think not.

It's possible that Toei will have individual eye catchers for later episodes. The opening was pretty good. The episode itself was awesome.

I was considering rewatching the whole series from scratch and then making a top 10 episode guide. This would be my first time going through it again and that would help me knowing what is coming. Would probably take me half a year for 500+ episodes, assuming 3 a day. Already know the ones where Luffy puts the straw hat on Nami's head, and Robin saying she wants to live will be up there =).

The new eyecatcher is cool, but I would have definitely preferred an individual one for each character. Maybe we'll get some eventually.

And I really hope we don't get a roger monologue/recap of the first half of the adventure every episode. This episode felt great without 5 minutes of useless crap at the beginning of it.

Completely agree, new is good.

I think the best thing Oda did with Brook was make him into a super star. I was worried that everytime the Strawhats entered a town people would freak out at Brook. Now people will freak out because they're in the presence of a rockstar. Can't wait to see that later on.

Well the OP isn't half as bad as my kneejerk reaction upon some repeated listenings, still gonna take a bit with some of the character designs for them to grow on me.

Guys, I found One Piece.

Also, people complained about OP 12? It was pretty happy overall but it wasn't bad...

Understatement of the century.

It's not that it's "happy" that I have a problem with. It's that the producer of the song has never seen/read One Piece, and just assumed the song would fit. During the IMPEL DOWN ARC.

Technically it's not filler in a sense, just elaborated on more than in the manga.

You can also refer to the wiki episode guide:
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Episode_Guide
(obviously don't click anywhere else/manga-related as it will have spoilers)

Also inlcudes the OVAs etc. and a color code for each episode (filler etc.)

  • Enel's Great Space Operations (Ch. 428- 474)
  • CP9's Independent Report (Ch. 491-528)

( I hope this doesn't count as spoilers? The anime is already further ahead than these events, it's just that most of the side-stories never made it to the anime)

Though I don't like how it's e.g. just called Post-War arc, as it also contains the Sabo stuff and some more Strawhats stories. See aechris' post above for listing the filler stuff by single episodes.

90% of people hate that OP because it was out of place with the arc. I'm sure most of those people wouldn't really care or have much if an opinion on it if it were used on another arc. It's all just bias.

Side note: after listening to the new one a few more times, its starting to grow on me but I still don't like it that much

Also, who wishes they brought back ENDINGS?

I enjoyed the second ending but Ill take more time for the episode (longer openings even) versus having endings.

Well yeah that's what's bullshit. Instead of a 1 min 30 sec OP and 1 min 30 sec ED, we get a 2 min 30 sec OP and fucking 50 minutes of Gold Roger monologue and last episode recap.

I much prefer that over an ending.

I'm sorry but I think endings are the silliest things ever and a remnant of ancient teachings. It makes no sense in an episodic TV format. The openings at least allow for people to tune in without missing the beginning of the episode.

Endings make a lot more sense as montages at the end of arcs (like the one last episode).

I like the endings the music was good for some of them and seeing the SH in other art work was great .
I think a 2min 30 sec opening feels really draw out to tell the truth .

Still for a show like OP a ending might not be a big deal but if we talking about 12 or 24 eps shows it matters more to me.

Am I crazy or is Oda's drawing style getting worse and worse?

I just looked through the early editions and can clearly see a significant change in his artistic style from then till now... its looking lazy and sterile now, the first 20 books (approximate) were drawn really well.

The only characters I enjoy seeing now are Sakazaki, Borsalino and Kuzan... there are far less unique characters than before... also post timeskip main character versions are looking pretty bland and lost somewhat their unique physical/facial features :/...

With these kind of posts it would really help your case if you actually post comparison pictures so we can know what exactly you mean.

But I really dunno what you mean by less unique characters. What was unique before that isn't now? Or more precisely what's your cutoff chapter? I found most of the characters at Impel Down to be pretty unique. Even the ones in the current arc in the manga seem pretty alright.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Don't forget that Strong World is canon, it takes place before Sabaody. Though the Little East Blue arc is filler, it has no impact on Strong World at all.
