Overwatch |OT10| That'll do pig, that'll do

For those who feel Roadhog is still off, do you happen to play on console? Because I feel the complete opposite about him after his recent buffs. He can stand his ground much better now, which makes him feel more like a tank than he ever has. Now he's great up front, and outputs a reasonable amount of damage at a distance. When it comes to the hook, it only takes me about two shots up-close to take a 200-health hero down, which I never find difficult to pull off. Especially considering the hook gets them so close to you.

Also, Mei definitely deserves a buff. I've seen a couple of the suggestions from the second-to-last post in the previous page flying around, and I absolutely agree with them. It's just tiny details that could help her out a lot. Her primary needs some love too, through an increase in speed and radius, in my opinion. It's too easy for a Genji and Tracer to escape from it. I feel like tanks already counter her really well, and in a way that makes sense. Feels weird that she has a hard time holding ground against offense classes.

EDIT:
His gun animation wasn't designed to be played at that speed and it looks bizarre
This I feel is absolutely fair, haha. Mechanically I love it, but I'll admit I found it funny when I first noticed the change. One thing that comes to mind is adding some recoil to his weapon. I think that could help the feel of it quite a bit.

Yeah, I'm console, but my larger problem with Roadhog isn't just a balance issue, but a disconect with his visual design. His gun animation wasn't designed to be played at that speed and it looks bizarre while the idea that he is running off while huffing gas works but just feels weird.

I'm not saying you can't balance him. But every time I load him up, he just feels off as a character and I don't want to play him.

Oh my god
I think
I think I am the most demoralized I've ever been in this game.

We had a phenomenal first round on el dorado, totally obliterated the team. Then as soon as we won, one of our team members disappeared. Just absolutely dropped from the game. So we got crushed on the second half and everyone else abandoned for the tie breaker.

I lost 80 SR from that one loss alone
This was coming off of a 4 loss win streak
I got dropped into gold.
I think I am done forever

  • Mei's Blizzard now activates as soon as it touches the ground. (It sometimes gets stuck under the payload and has a huge delay)
  • Cryo-Freeze fully reloads her weapon when activated
  • Cryo-Freeze cooldown now set to 10 seconds when cancelled
  • Ice Wall cooldown now set to 6 seconds when cancelled
  • Blizzard now gives allies within the radius 10 healing per second
  • Blizzard now resets Mei's cooldowns on activation
Her ult is already very strong - I don't think you want to heavy-load it too much.

Ice Wall cooldown could offset the cooldown based on how many seconds it had left, but 6 seconds when canceled just means everyone cancels with ~0.1 seconds left to reduce its cooldown.

Her big problem is just that her right-click is generally bad, and they need to make it stronger or have an additional effect (auto-freeze on hit? KEK).

No, I play on PC. I don't think console is ever a good way to get a feel for how the game plays, because it's really a different world you're playing in.

2 shots on a 200-health hero sounds great, except the most popular damage characters don't stick around for a second shot. Genji has already popped parry and darted off, and Tracer has zipped away. Meanwhile, where is this person's team? A player should be protected when the hook happens, but 2 shots mean there's far more of a window for a Zarya bubble or D.va matrix to save their ass.

It's also important to note that tanks do their job by mitigating team damage, controlling space, and denying ult charge. Shields do not provide ult charge (imagine how bad Reinhardt would be if you could charge your ult by hitting his shield!). Roadhog DOES provide ult charge, so all that damage you are soaking means your team will get wrecked hard through ult combos much more frequently than their team will.

You could probably balance Roadhog by giving him a passive that says a % of his health (first 300 or something) doesn't provide ult charge, but he still wouldn't be fun to play. Who wants to run around firing blanks?

Managed to solo queue back up to 2900s and just played a few games with gaf chums and made it to diamond ^_^ I really didn't expect to make it this far in my second season - especially after losing loads of sr after placements, so pretty pleased.

Hopefully I can climb to masters by next season and even more hopefully I'll have sorted my PC out for the one after that.

Auto freeze would be super broken

Auto freeze would be super broken

That's why I wrote "KEK". :p

Edit: But maybe it could chill based on its damage, or something. It would make her gameplay a lot more interesting if you used a combination of L-click and R-click to freeze people, and you could support the team by slowing far-away targets with your R-click.

And no thoughts on Mei? For me, I would like the following to be added (but not all at once). Maybe 2-3 of these. + the top one since that's a bug fix:
  • Mei's Blizzard now activates as soon as it touches the ground. (It sometimes gets stuck under the payload and has a huge delay)
  • Cryo-Freeze fully reloads her weapon when activated

With regards to her Ultimate, most of the cast can evade & escape it. Soldier: 76, for example, can literally leap jump across the radius of the ult and escape. Unless if you are either stupid or caught off guard, rarely anyone can get caught in Mei's Blizzard.

As for her right click, I don't want it to have it's damage falloff removed, but I can't think of how to improve it without breaking Mei.

You got me really excited for a second...

Personally, his increased fire-rate is what makes the difference for me. Plus, I position most of my hooks so my target and I are away from the crowd. While I've had instances where my prey escapes a death blow on their own, or thanks to their team, it's not often in their favor. Also, the other team is usually a little scratched up as long as you're sticking with yours, so I still catch one-shots regularly.

It's also important to note that tanks do their job by mitigating team damage, controlling space, and denying ult charge.
Lots of good points in this half. I've never really put thought into it, maybe because he's become incredible at contesting. His weapon isn't what it used to be, but it's still fierce in close quarters, which opens up a lot of opportunities on the point to stand ground for your team. That said, although I find him fun in his current iteration, I can't argue against the fact that he isn't truly living up to his tank role. I wouldn't be against the idea near the end, of negating ult feeding to a degree.

I hope I don't sound like I'm trying to invalidate the thought that he is still flawed. Though I've had a different experience, I can see where everyone else is coming from.

Holy crap is there any counter to a good tracer?! I think I'm slowly burning out with this game. Just lost a decent chunk of SR which sucks but i just don't think I'm good enough consistently to push past 2800 or so.

Not really. It's a team effort to call her out and focus her.

I lost about 300 points this week too, at this point I am playing for personal inprovement.

Congrats on the promotion!

And nope. In my head I'll randomly hear Reinhardt's "HAH!" when charging, and the distinct sound of Lucio initiating a wall ride. Get used to it.

Speaking of which, my big brother got me the best shirt in the whole wide world today and immediately elevated my mood of having to go in to work on my off day:

I'm new to this comp thing. But if our team is losing and I have gold everything. I'm doing the most damage, killing the most opposition, and on the point the most, should I give up my Doomfist and switch to a character I can't even play like Mei because it's requested? Am I the asshole here? Because it seems like I'm being far more helpful by playing a character I know. I switched to Mei and didn't accomplish fuck all Not a single kill. We lost but I still finished with golds in everything. I also ended up with POTG as Doomfist. It feels like dudes just imagine that you're playing horribly because they don't like your character or something. But you don't have a consistent feed of my gameplay so how the hell do you know if I'm terrible. I'm only silver ranked for fucks sake.

Its been touched on many times but gold medals are such a dumb stat and a big reason why theres so much toxicity in this game. Yes you might have 3-4 gold medals which means you arent being completely useless but what are the context of those gold medals? Are you getting lots of kills but dieing repeatdely? Is it a payload map and you are never contesting? Do they have a Pharah who is destroying your team and no one wants to counter? Bastion? etc

having gold medals probably means you are doing well individually but its a team game and yes sometimes its OK to switch even if you feel like you are doing well. If its going to help the team, why not

Nah, you're gonna come across a lot of idiots in Comp.

I just played a game where we had an attack sym. Do I complain? No, because an attack sym can conceivably work, especially if they are smart where they place their ult.

This sym is not smart. Despite creating tons of openings as Tracer, people don't capitolize and our Sym first puts a teleport in front of an enemy team (it's destroyed almost instantly) and then accidentally puts a teleport close to our spawn when they meant to put down a shield generator to give us a boost. It was, without hyberbole, the single worst attack phase on Volskaya I've ever played.

We ended up managing a tie, somehow, but you'd be amazed how much confident this sym was even though he shit the bed as badly as I've ever seen a sym do so.

Mei's fine she's just out of meta. My best season in ow was with mei during the triple tank meta. I mean there are still games where I'll carry with mei it's just this meta is awful for her. If they buff her that's fine with me that just means I get to play her more.

The only buff I want for Mei is no delay on the secondary fire.

Would that be too good?

Probably. She doesn't need that many buffs to the gun, because it's actually already really strong. Only thing I want is to make it have less drop off. Not a lot less, or else it might just be busted, but there are times when I feel I deserve a lot more damage for landing it past 20 feet. It gets pretty pitiful.

Mei's already really strong, I Was one of the people on GAF that stated using her in high level games when it got figured out pre Beyblade era. I still think she's about as strong as she was back then, but the game is fundamentally broken around D.va/Winston, and she is ironically not good at dealing with them.

I would like that too. I was checking the values and the falloff starts at 26m apparently, doesn't seem that short surprisingly, I can recall being screwed by that when hitting pharah for example.

In regards to the icicle I have trouble hitting that secondary fire sometimes, might be just a personal thing but it feels easier for me to hit my shots with other projectile heroes. You already have to lead your shots a bit, having to take in account that small delay before firing is annoying. I would take a slighty slower projectile or smaller hitbox over that.

It makes sense that Mei's real problem is the meta. Ice Wall is so good at trapping a character for a free kill, but that doesn't work so well if the meta is characters that can fly, double jump, and climb walls. I found her much more playable when the game was tank-oriented.

Go watch Mei specialists like Esca play her. They hit them consistently, and I've done some wild shit with it myself. It might be a lot easier with a mouse since you can flick the cursor around to correct for the delay.

I saw Seagull playing her a lot in the past, his accuracy was pretty insane even as it is.

My suggestion is more about myself than anything else, atm if there's something that gives me trouble with her sometimes is that. If one day they decide to remove it I will be happy, if not it's fine too. I don't think she's weak or anything like that, but since they are making some non-meta characters better like Junk, Orisa and Hog
lol
I thought that there might a possibility for some unexpected buffs.

yes, considering she out ranges mccree

Barely.

Mei
Damage 22 - 75
Falloff range 26 to 55 meters

McCree
Damage 21 - 70
Falloff range 22 to 45 meters

Also McCree is hitscan and has a much faster fire-rate.

Mei wasn't really "in" meta. Yes, Mei is fine against individual heroes, but she's horrible at dealing with multiple aggressive enemies. Her wall used to be a solid deterrent because Reinhardt was so central to anchoring teams, but given that Winston/D.Va/Genji/Lucio can all effortlessly get over her wall, she can't create favorable match-ups anymore. In all honesty, other heroes can do her job better than she can.

Take Soldier: 76, for example. His left click is far more reliable than Mei's, and while he doesn't have a way to bypass Defense Matrix/Deflect, Mei's left/right click isn't exactly great in a meta dominated by Winston Bubbles being within Genji's dashing distance at any time.

Seriously, Winston's bubble fucks with Mei much harder than most heroes, as it takes forever to break with her right click. The enemy team can use the bubble to easily escape her left click, forcing her to use her right click to try to break it (which takes a long ass time). When there's a Winston bubble ANYWHERE nearby, the match-up turns around completely, as Genji and Tracer can use their mobility to dodge in and out of the barrier, making it impossible for her to land a full duration left click/right click. Without the chance to bypass his deflect, the match-up turns around completely, and it becomes a matter of Mei getting rid of the barrier without dying.

In contrast, Soldier can shred Winston Bubbles, his right click can be used to burst bubbles, burst Tracer/Genji, even help finish off Winston/D.Va at low health. His E ability is much more useful than Ice Block for anything but assuming a competent Tracer, as that player isn't going to blow their Pulse Bomb on Mei knowing she could Ice Block, when she could use it on higher value targets. Soldier can heal while dueling, forcing the enemy team to actually deal with him, as opposed to Mei, who once she ice blocks will become a non-factor unless she breaks it early, sacrificing healing.

Ult vs Ult, neither one really has a huge impact, but at least if you can de-suit D.Va, Soldier's ult becomes a huge threat, whereas Mei's ult is just going to cause all the enemy team to jump away, not even being worthwhile enough to suck up defense Matrix Time.

Then you have Pharah, who laughs at Mei when she waddles in to attempt taking her and Mercy out of the sky, when in fact Mei is utterly useless against Pharmacy. A competent Soldier at least forces them to play differently.

Even if you factor out Soldier, Mei isn't all that great. The time it takes for Mei to left click takes too long, as by the time they're frozen and/or dead (ignoring stuff like getting healed, Mei getting knocked around), a competent team can deal with Mei without breaking a sweat. If they decide to focus Mei, she can always ice block, but if you use the duration of ice block to heal, your team will likely be dead by the time you escape. If you break it early, you have no way to deal with two enemies attacking you at once, you can't switch targets with your left click, and you'd have to get really lucky with right click against Genji/Tracer (if it's Winston/D.Va double teaming you, you're dead and might as well give up).

TL;DR: Mei seems like the perfect anti-dive character. She relies on restricting movement, which seems great, but it's too slow. She's too slow. Her right click is her only real asset, and honestly it's outclassed by most character's abilities. You need to be super consistent to make it comparable, and most of Mei's kit goes to waste.

I had an two epic stalls with mei last night, 5 attackers on the 1st point on Kings Row and our team had pretty much just given up on it, but I snuck into the corner of the point, got a kill, put up a wall, ice blocked, then ulted when the meter was at like 90% to allow my team to get in there, and we didn't lose the point!

Any tips on how to survive dive meta? It's really bumming me out playing solo healer and getting killed by Genji/Tracer/Dva all the time whilst my own Genji/Tracer/Dva let me die in every match.

Ended the night as a 75% winrate Orisa one trick. Its crazy how fast the individual SR contributions kick in. I was stuck 300 rating below and just by switching hero the gains get tilted in my favour. Gonna ride this out and see how far I can get.

propaganda is useless

I've come to really love Sombra after not paying her much attention for a long time. She's such a "different" character to me, which makes her a lot of fun. I think she's going to end up challenging D.Va for the third-most played unless some new character really grabs me between now and then.

With playing games through High Platinum/Low-Mid Diamond, that hasn't been the case. A Soldier: 76 player worth their salt can tear through Winston's bubble barrier like it's nothing.

Any idea on whats in the virtual ticket this year?

Aside from the new two-passenger mounts for World of Warcraft, they haven't revealed anything else for the other games. Which is annoying, as I wasted my time watching that stream and they revealed information that has already been presented.
