Play-Asia says SJWs to blame for DOAX3 not coming west

Doubt that, this situation will probably make them feel worse. Since it's now something removed from the sale and they have to import. Feeling like some pervert subverting the roadblocks the system put in place.
I think they like doing that though? Their wave of new supporters are championing them for being so against the bad guys. They're not exactly cowering and wimpering lmao.

I think the warrior part came from because thats how people envisoned the people see themselves, radicals don't call themselves radicals after all. Kinda like calling someone a "white knight" in a negative way.

But SJWs should be against violence, physical at least, which is inherently associated to martialism.

I'd think SJWs would think of themselves as advocators.

What I find weird about this is that Play-Asia could have come out like the heroes of this scenario of they had played their cards right. Instead of bitching about SJW, they could have been like: "Play-Asia! Your Headquaters for DOAX3!" Or "Get the Game K-T doesn't want you to play here at Play-Asia!" Then have DOAX3 banners and pictures all over thier homepage, maybe even offer a 5-10% off preorder/Black Friday/cyber Monday deal. Bam, they become the heroes we need. They make money, K-T makes money, Sony makes money, gamers in the west who want the game get the game, everyone wins.

Since SJW is a GG-tainted pejorative, is there an acceptable term for the kind of thinking behind the infamous Kotaku article on Dragon's Crown?
'Stupid'? Given how often it's been trotted out now for years I don't think Schrier himself stands by what he originally wrote; the debate afterwards he had here about it was a disaster.

Or you could just call it a 'SJW article' but that doesn't really help anyone wanting to know just what was particularly bad about it beyond being a knee-jerk insult.

I think poorly designed games like Dragon's Crown and Hatred don't deserve to sell well really.
How exactly is Dragon's crown a poorly designed game? Dislike the character designs all you want if they aren't your thing, but the actual GAME part of it is great.

I feel like this has turned out to be some sort of DOAX3 marketing for them now. This could possibly just be generating more sales for them since I'm pretty sure the people who classify themself as SJW don't really have an interest in the game... maybe?

Yeah a great game but the models really detracted from the experience imo.

I dunno what's worse Play Asia catering to their new (?) audience or reading the responses of their audience.

That actually reminds me that if I was someone who was interested in this game (which is perfectly fine obviously), I would be concerned that PlayAsia and the Gamergate people are co-opting the game and turning it into a hill to die on in the name of their ideology. As a consumer, I wouldn't want to be associated with bigots like Breitbart, GG, and all the rest of the reactionary conservatives we see.

This is precisely my feelings on play-asia about this. As someone who is interested in the game, is ordering it (not from play-asia), and doesn't want to be associated with those people.

I don't think much of the fuss here has anything to do with DoAX3 or the content of the game, really, it's that play-asia has aligned themselves with these clowns.

Since apparently you're just a scum sucking sex starved troglodyte if you've ever enjoyed one of these games, I guess I should attempt to explain the appeal to our betters.

They're fun, kitschy trash.

That wasn't so hard after all I guess.

I find pervy stuff that objectifies adult women to be shamelessly entertaining. It's also not all I enjoy, or the only representation of women I find appealing. I won't defend the product as art, I won't pretend these characters are 3 dimensional (so to speak~), I have no excuse for why I find them funny, but it's not explicit raunch either and I wouldn't enjoy it as much if it was actual hardcore porn, which, yes, I could look up at the drop of a hat if I wanted to.

This is closer to one of those cheesy girl calendars you'd find at any mechanic shop than porn. And, even though I'm straight, I'd also get a kick out of a game with a bunch of brainless near-naked dudes running around with bulge physics. I'd totally play that if someone made it. I would also totally play a sexy trash game with better mechanics and characterizations - actually I think I have this year, it was called Onechanbara.

I also have no problem whatsoever with other people having a problem with them because they find them offensive. I actually enjoy listening to other people's opinions on things, why they find something problematic, and I like to broaden my perspective of the world.

I have a certain level of respect for the existence of a niche product that exists solely for indefensible laughs and dubious fetishes, but that doesn't preclude me having far greater respect for the fact that the industry needs vastly improved representations of many marginalized groups. I also recognize that my life would not be negatively affected in any way if these unapologetic Benny Hill games went by the wayside and games with extremely positive representations of women became ubiquitous, but other people's lives might be improved. The kind of warm attachment you can feel for a character just because of how they look and the fact you control them is nothing compared to what you get from a character you actually believe, both from how they are presented and how you interact with them.

And if you just want to just talk about why anyone would play mechanically vapid games with virtually nonexistent plotlines and 1 dimensional jokes where believable characters could exist and whose main focus is largely wacky physics, I suggest you ask the 12 million people who bought Fallout 4.

If anything, X3 could make them ludicrously rich, if they did it right. (not releasing it in the West is not doing it right.)

There's no chance of that, no chance in hell - beat-off sims have been less useful since the internet came into our phones

Not only are they relying on a specific narrative, but they're also retweeting racists and posting Breitbart articles, I'm not sure how clearer this can be.

What narrative? That games being hindered from a western release because of social media is something stupid? That's common sense. Not everyone who disagrees with you is in some weird ass cult.

i just preordered the $300 version of doax3 from PA.
that seems....extreme.

I really don't see this episode having any real long term effect. they'll probably see a sales bump because of this but it's hard to imagine that many people will even know about this let alone care.

Wait a minute.
DOAX2 was released on x360 all over the world and sold like rat shit (it's still shit but so common no one would even bother trying to study it).
I can get that the Japan version was ampered by the dismal performance of the 360, but what's the excuse for the rest of the world?
I mean we're still discussing the sequel to that game no one wanted to play, that barely anyone bought and everyone is joking at how pandering it is, right?

Can anyone post any pics or vids here so I can see what so problematic?

there's two threads about this game on GAF already and almost nobody is complaining about the content of the game. Except to say that their waifu isn't in it. (No Mila? Wryyyyyyyyyyyy?!?!?)

And anime aficionados wonders why they get a bad rep. This is the sort of company that panders and markets to that customer base.

Trust me play-asia is like one step about j-list in terms of shitty companies that anime aficionados avoid ordering from.

How is that common sense? Games like Senran Kagura and Criminal Girls are being released here. If anything, the trend has been an increase in niche Japanese games getting localized. K-T's excuse doesn't make sense at all.

it's shamelessly pandering so no one actually cares. this is all a trumped up controversy to get chumps to spend $300 on an imported collector's edition out of spite.

Why, hello, welcome to the thread. We are not talking about what you think we are talking before reading the actual posts, but thanks for sharing anyway.

I don't think you have a firm grip on common sense if that seems like a logical deduction to you.

Not a weird-ass cult, but probably a weird ass-cult.

There's at least 4 or 5 posts in here that my post is directed towards, I'm not sure what you mean. I've already commented on the actual OP, but I guess since you've read every post you already knew that. But yeah, I should clearly see myself out.

Yeah, this. amiami, 1999 and even god damned proxy services (sometimes) are preferable to Play-Asia prices.

There are actually a few posts in here that amount to "don't get it. Just watch porm lolz". Or calling fans of the games "neckbeards". I'm guessing this is a response to those.

Plus porn is objectification by nature. Outside of illegal shit it makes no sense to get up in arms over something that's supposed to get you off is getting you off through slutty, pandering means.

I hope that's the case. I just see tons of anime avatars re-tweeting and favoring P-A's tweets, so it doesn't generate a very positive representation of the fan base. Then again most those people likely aren't even buying from P-A. They're probably the ones who solely pirate content.

There's nothing that's terribly problematic. There hasn't been any noteworthy derision or planned protests of a localization of the game. Assuming Tecmo does indeed proceed to not bring the game over (which I hardly feel is set in stone), there are basically three possibilities at play here.

1.) And I'll note here that this is the most generous one to attempt to give them some credit: the sales projections don't look all that great. While they might have still taken a swing at it and brought it over anyway hoping that it would at least break even, the current social climate that sometimes spotlights issues some have with the objectification of women in games has given them pause as to whether or not bring the game over is even worth it. It's not going to make a lot of money anyway and might lead to some dialogue they don't have the energy to deal with, so the ultimate decision is just to say "forget it" and not localize it. After all, the audience who really wants it should know that importing is an option anyway.

2.) This is a neutral one: they haven't really made any definitive decision and people that aren't in decision-making positions are simply speaking out of turn.

3.) The cynical option: this is all just a marketing stunt. I'm not saying that this is exactly what's happening on Tecmo's side, but it seems clear that Play-Asia has taken that ball and run with it at least. The reaction starting with just the Niche Gamer article yesterday demonstrates that plenty of people were eager for this moment. You can sense it on the Twitter and other places concerned with social justice concerns. Even the Niche Gamer article itself played up that this was exactly the kind of thing people feared would happen.

You can see the mobilization of that effort. "This is it people! This is not a drill! We knew this day would come! They kept trying to tell us that they weren't trying to take our games away from us but look! It happened! Everyone to your battle stations! Social Justice Warriors have just blocked Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball from releasing in the West!"

Also this.

I'm not sure how we reached point where enjoying T&A games means you're a horrible pervert who sees women as objects (and are also a dateless virgin, which is somehow THE WORST THING a man can be), and are contributing to everything wrong with the video game industry. I'm not sure what world people live in where the same person can't enjoy both Life is Strange and DOAX3, but I for one will not join them there.

So former IGN and GS journalist are pissed at PA for taking a stand.

It's sorta funny.

If you're linking to Breitbart to help make your stand, maybe reconsider whether it's a stand you want to make.

They're getting in bed with Gators and thinking they wont get bitten.

Is there a way to speak out against sex negative feminism without being a Gamergater ally?

Seems unfair and presumptuous to lump P-A in with GG when they haven't voiced support. Sad how entrenched everyone is in this.

Or am I missing something they've said besides those flippant tweets?

No, but who exactly is being a sex negative feminist? Not sure you even know what that means.
