Pretty good, still trying to figure out a good way to earn money at the moment.

Was doing the early mission to get your first researcher but I didn't have enough money for the bribe so I sent my hacker to hack a nearby ATM to increase my cash flow. Unfortunately he was spotted by security, and I decided to let them lead him away as opposed to trying to get him to run for it. Instead I tailed them with another of my guys and followed them until they took him down a less busy street. Once it was clear got my guy to take out the silenced pistol and put a shot in the back of each guard allowing my hacker to escape without any injury.

Maybe I'm spoiled after Dragonfall's incredible story but I just can't seem to get into this. It looks good and plays well but there's just no "hook" for me. I don't feel motivated to run around just doing stuff.

I'll definitely give it another chance once I have less on my plate though. I backed it and I'm glad it's now a reality and one that is reviewing quite well.

Seems that the chief ways are hacking ATM's and either robbing or hacking banks. Difference between immediate lump sum and long term returns, evidently.

I'll go out on a leg and guess that hacking banks is way better in the long term.

Also didn't burn my creds trying to develop that laser pistol. If i understood game mechanics correctly, wouldn't be a point to it, since stealth shots will always be 1 hit kills.

It's good to see this reviewing so well. The old Syndicate games looked great but I gave the first one a try when it came out on GOG and it was just way too dated for me. Much like the original X-COM, I just couldn't get into it because of that.

I was really hoping this would turn out to be a decent modern alternative.

Man the pathfinding in this is very impressive. I can give my agents a move order halfway across the city and they'll navigate to it no problem.

Just wanted to say this game is fantastic. immediately brought me back to playing syndicate. Love all the built in commandos like stealth segments that get you research and weapon rewards. Brilliantly designed.

Dunno what i'm doing wrong, but is the player supposed to be overleveled in the initial zone? I'm fine, money wise, even though i haven't robbed the bank yet, but due to the way the game seems to assign XP (being in a conflict zone for a very long time with hostility up seems to be the chief way), i'm often running into lvl 3 hacks and lvl 2 hardwires, which constantly put my chance to suceed at 39% or lower.

Seem to be severely constrained in skill points, and this feeling is aggravated by seeing options like ziplines and vents at bases, which i can't use (or have to use at severe risk) because i'm so low level. Thus a considerable degree of luck seems to be involved, regardless of approach.

Also dear god at those research costs.

So has anyone found the GAF logo yet?

Yep, found it last night, pretty neat, had to do a double take :)

I wish the hotkeys were laid out better. Looking at the controls menu they just made a separate entry for every single skill and it feels really sloppy because no one is going to memorize every one of them unless they play this game for a really long time. I'd have liked it better if they used a grid layout where one set row of keys (like qwer for example) is used for each character and you can swap in and out skills there. That way you can just keep your fingers on the same row and move to different characters and still know exactly where the abilities are.

Gonna guess that they went with a "shortcuts should work with the whole group selected" mindset. Kinda makes sense, given how often one has to trigger World View.

Of course one could just as easily argue that WV should have its own separate binding and all the other personal skills should be on QWER or what have you, thus one would go 4>E for infiltrator cloak or 2>W for support heal.

Since this is a Unity game and looks decent does it have the same horrible performance issues as Dreamfall: Chapters? The latter often drops to the high 20s at 1440P with a 980Ti :/

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
I feel like Early Access kills the hype for games. I completely missed that SR is out and I was really looking forward to it.
Same with Trine 3

Framerate drops to the 40s in the city which the effects turned up at 1440P but oh well.

Pathfinding in this game is abysmal. Keep trying to run through security walls, get stuck on cover, run directly into the sight of enemies during stealth and so on.

Car got inside one of the protected sections somehow and didn't know what to do.

Yeah that one is a known issue. In early access we had cars drivable but took them out for the time being as they were notoriously buggy. There's nodes throughout the city where the cars are allowed to drive and where does are so they triggered doors when they got near them. All the interiors of compounds are set to not allow cars to spawn in there but for some reason in a few instances they spawn on the doors themselves and teleport to the nearest node. It's on the list of things to fix in the first batch of updates, hopefully we can fix drivable cars too.

Also if you've having navigation/pathfinding issues let me know exactly what areas (screenshots) they're generally an easy fix, it's just a matter of knowing where they are

Missions that are really deep into enemy territory are great and intense. I just did one where the objective was right close to where we broke in, but it came with escorts. Unfortunately we couldn't go back the way we came and had to fight or sneak through the entire rest of the complex, which is more like an entire neighborhood/district than a complex. It was crazy and I had my team constantly on the run while leapfrogging to maintain some kind of cover fire and keep the escorts safe.

Me too. I refuse to buy Early Access games, because I just don't have time for unfinished games, but by the time it soft launches its already been on sale three times and so forth.

I just add them to my wish list and move on.

Welcome to Unity.... Some things just inexplicably tank performance.

It could be something being spammed to your output.log, it's in the "..._data" folder of your install. If it has a crazy amount of errors or messages in it send it to me and I can pass it on to Mike to take a look at for you

Failed a prototype run and lost it outside of the facility doors. Was a long mission so decided to back off and take a break and close the game after the autosave. When I came back and redid the heist, the prototype was no longer inside (or on the floor where I died), just some money. Not sure if it was intentional and I can find it elsewhere or if I am screwed out of that item now.

Did you try going to the mission log and pinging it?

Douchebag. Yes, me.
After putting in a few more hours, I'm starting to dislike it.

This game is nothing like Syndicate. It's Commandos. And I'm starting to think its a pretty bad Commandos clone as well :(

What's the reasoning for that, because those games are decades old and I honestly can't remember the difference.

Syndicate, contrary to what some people seem to think, is an action game. It's essentially a twin stick shooter where you control 4 dudes at once. There is very little strategy, it's all about fast reflexes and overwhelming firepower.

Commandos is a puzzle game with incredible strict missions that require pinpoint execution with an emphasis on stealth and on each character having a unique set of skills.

Honestly Satellite Reign doesn't really play like either. If anything it's kind of a hybrid of the two. The simple combat of Syndicate, with the character skills of commandos. All this put in a Ubisoft style open world.

yeah usually if I died in Syndicate, it wasn't because something like XCOM where I think, shit I messed up that plan... it was usually more like @#$%! fat fingered my keyboard rushing to target and get away burning car before it explodes :p

Did the original Syndicate have a strong story component?

I forgot that I backed this.

Are there levels where you can load up your dudes with weapons and mow down a heap of enemies? Those are my memories of Syndicate.
Also, is it ever day time?

Syndicate or SR are like a lot like other sandbox or non-linear games like a MMO or a 4X strategy in that... you need to be in the mood to 'create your own story.' Sometimes that's hard when there are a ton of interesting or compelling story games around. I think it's pretty natural to not really feel like creating your own story when you're sort of distracted or curious about other stories.

Personally, I like games like Syndicate, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, WoW, Civilization -AFTER- I've beaten a great story game. Maybe it's Shadowrun Hong Kong or Witcher 3, and when I'm done, I'm sitting there thinking... I really wish I had a sandbox. I have all these ideas where I want to create my own story... build my own kingdom, gang, squad, etc. That's when I boot-up a XCOM or a Ultima Online or an Anno.

When you have some sort of inspiration to create your own story, and then you really get immersed in every little random mission, every little upgrade, etc because you own it more. When you don't need a story because you have already have the creative inspiration for your own story.

That's why games like Syndicate, XCOM, Civ, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, etc IMO, while not always being in the mood for them, and sometimes they have a 'high barrier of entry' in terms of inspiration or motivation -- but I find myself playing them once every year or two without fail because, unlike story games that provide a more immediate sense of satisfaction and interest, they provide you with a sort of sandbox to create your own story when you're in the mood for it.

Commandos were games where you could very well end up using the quickload button almost as much as you'd right click.

Good memories, tho. Lotsa fun levels. Shame Pyro decided to go all "fuk alla dat" and became a mobile dev. Always thought that they'd go on ahead to become what Paradox ended up being.

Anyone managed to assault the Dracogenic Armory? The mission if you purchase the info says you need to find 3 terminals in the area to open the door (it's blocked by a hardwired door with a skill of 3). I can only find 2 terminals in the compound.

I had a guy with hardwire 3 by the time I did that mission, so no idea.

I figured it out I think. I thought the mission was to get 3 of the yellow terminals since a lot of the prep missions have you accessing those but it's probably just 3 of the red lock terminals.

Yup, we certainly are, 5 of us in West End, we've had contractors for concept art, music/audio (Russell Shaw) and additional coding and design etc, about 10 people total if you count people who worked on the game for longer than 2 months.

Awesome. Which coffee place fueled this game? Blackstar? Cheeky Bean?

I haven't played Dragonfall, but I feel the same way. It looks INCREDIBLE, plays really well, but so far it just seems to be a big open world with a bunch of loosely connected missions. I haven't played much so I'm not sure, only a couple of hours, but the characters & story seem pretty much non-existent, and I find it hard to be motivated for a SP game without a good story.

Still, knowing it's developed by a Brisbane studio, I'm happy I purchased it at launch to support them. I'm going to keep playing through and see if it clicks. I absolutely love the art style & graphics so I want to see more of this gorgeous city.

When we first moved to west end the guys were going to blackstar (I'm not a coffee drinker myself, just make an ice coffee at home before heading to work) but they ended up pitching in and buying a coffee maker for the office to both save money and save time they should have been spending working on the game :p
