I expect the next console generation to hit in 2020.
2020 would be perfect for the PS5.Since now we have these 'mid gen upgrades' like the Pro and Scorpio, I think it's fair to say that there's no way a new console will be announced soon, right?
Anyway what is your guess? And what do you think will be the specs?
Before the pro I was hoping for a 2018 or 2019 reveal and late 2019/early 2020 for new consoles. Now I don't know anymore. I think we will not have any news regarding the next gen until 2020.
Scorpio has to be Microsoft's PS5 challenger. I can't imagine them dropping it 2 years after release for a new Xbox. That would really piss ppl off.

3 year lifespan for Scorpio? That's even shorter than the original Xbox. Do you think people will be happy with that - especially when Scorpio is supposedly going to be positioned as a premium product with a premium price? 3 years or even 2 if MS wants to be first out the gate is an incredibly short lifespan for a console.I don't agree -- Scorpio is not going to have Zen or HBM2, things PS5 will almost certainly have, in one form or another.
If PS5 launches in 2019, Microsoft will release a new Xbox a year later (thus, 3 years after Scorpio) with something equivalent or slightly more powerful. If PS5 launches in 2020 or 2021 Microsoft will launch a new Xbox at the same time.
Really good point here, this is the main issue I see.Forgetting about specs for a sec, what will be the USP.
4K isn't enough. It has to be 4K plus a graphical leap.
Then also think timeframe. When will 4K TV be not just available but the expected.
What kind of power do we need for 4K Native with a still massive graphical leap?

I thought they were on the "apple approach" of not announcing early. At least that's what they said when xbox announced Scorpio.
Time is going so fast... it felt like the ps360 era took forever but now we're already discussing the PS5. We're all gonna die one day guys, sooner than we think
Would it really matter? By that time MS would supposedly have an instal base to keep giving time until the next system. However, they really jumped the gun early, giving Sony plenty of time to outdo the Scorpio in some way, shape, and form.
Yes it does, lets enjoy our Pro and Switch now right?Time is going so fast... it felt like the ps360 era took forever but now we're already discussing the PS5. We're all gonna die one day guys, sooner than we think
I think predictions for 2021 are short sighted. Who knows where the tech will be by then? By 2021 VR could have cracked the mainstream and 5g networks could provide over the air 4k streaming from cloud servers. The idea of a traditional console could be dead by then.
Hell the way the worlds going we could all be dead by then.

I think when developers drop the Xbox One they'll drop the Scorpio alongside it. Cross gen for the first couple years is going to happen no matter what just like it did this gen. Once they drop the Xbox one the Scorpio install base won't justify the port in relation to what they can do exclusively on the new hw.They wouldn't. They could drop the Xbox One though.
Scorpio is part of the Xbox One family, it's not a successor to Xbox One.
2013 to 2020-2021 is 7 to 8 years total. More than long enough.

PS5 will come when the Playstation brand turns 25
They wouldn't. They could drop the Xbox One though.
I have a feeling as long as Spencer is head of Xbox, that Xbox h/w will never be weaker than Sony's system ever again given in the same refresh cycle
Scorpio IS Xbox One. MS has said so time and time again.
"No one left behind."
The days are gone for 'monumental' upgrades anyway. Don't expect the next systems to do anything hugely different to the current ones, other than add an extra level of graphical polish.
In fact look at a highest end gaming PC of today, there's your PS5 more or less.

Why would they need to release a new console?
Just move to incremental upgrades now that they have moved to x86 architecture and allow people to keep backwards compatibility.
The next one might be called the PS4 Super Pro and then maybe they will just drop numbers like Apple and call each new console the new Playstation.
People said the same thing about PS4 but now we are getting these kind of graphics in a open world game:
Dont underestimate these developers mate.
