"You kill to protect what's yours" is Lucas-level romance writing. And that's where the show has been for a while.

The opening seems less hamfisted in it's dialogue and thus, the writing has improved.

These soap opera moments need more bloody punctuation marks at their end if they're not going to be the main thing, at least. this isn't an hbo show where it's cool that a whole season sticks to one theme so much and it'sdefinitely not cut out for drama either after a first season full of crazy zombie fight seasons every couple eps.
