White Knight Chronicles Media and Information Thread

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I'm going to be in the states from the 21st to the 5th of January to visit my family. I really want to play this, but not as much as I want to see my family, so I'll hold off on getting it until I return to Japan.

This topic is pretty damn big, so I hope I don't piss off people by asking this;

How's the game shaping up to be gameplaywise? I personally don't find it too appealing graphics/art wise, but I'm sold if it's a really solid jRPG. For those who follow it, does it seem to be a good game?

In terms of gameplay there wasn't much to see. But so far it looks rock solid and also has appealing elements, especially the battle system imo.
For further assessment you should wait for the hands-on by GAF coming "after Christmas".

Its made by Level 5, and no matter how pretty or cool L5 games look in trailers, the actual quality of the game itself is unknown until its actually played.

So we can't really tell you until its out, but I'm hopeful, despite not liking previous L5 console games.

Atleast they are going for something no other JRPG this generation has done so far...online quests!

Well I taught let's put it here, you never know who is interested ^^

Level 5 will exclusively work for Sony if White Knight is a succes (this counts probably only for consols)

And it's still a rumor but I hope it's true :D

There'd have to be a catch for that to be true. There's no way they'd give up the Layton DS cash cow.

That's why I said probably only for home consoles, so they can stay making DS games ^^

And who knows Layton on the PSP?

Well I hope WKC sales will make Level 5 happy though ^^ They can support the ps3 like they did with the ps2.

EDIT: lol @ vgtilt.

When does this release in USA?

I have high hopes since Level 5 Ps2 games were great, DQ 8, Rogue Galaxy, Dark Clouds.

But the visuals could be better. The CG looks like square CG which is great but the game graphics look like hi-res PS2 art. I mean i dont see any normal mapping or anything.

If the game is epic and good like a final fantasy im all over it. I enjoyed Lost Odyssey.

My guess is by spring. They're already working on the localization.

Didn't vgtilt said that Uncharted 2 would be in a snow setting and would be announced at VGA in December...

I would say Q2 Release in NA/EU.
Plus Level 5 has a great relationship with Sony.
Level 5 staying Sony Console exclusive is what me thinkz:D

Unless there is more money to be made by being PS3 exclusive over multiplatform, i doubt it. These aren't companies with honourable principles, unwavering fortitude and loyalty to another company. These are businesses whose aim is to make the fat monies, irregardless of fans and console manufacturers.

lol, well I don't think Level-5 will work with MS again after the True Fantasy Live Online debacle...

Plus, their next game is rumored to be Dark Cloud 3, which is a Sony owned IP anyhow...

Not that I care or even think its true at all, Level 5 has been pretty much exclusive to Sony consoles for a while now. They have bad blood with MS over TFLO and I don't see them developing a game for them.

I don't think its true because I can see them making money on the Wii.

ps: N4G sucks.

Well if Sony is paying for the development of the game I doubt it will be multiplatform. Also Level 5 had a big falling out with Microsoft, so I guess Level 5 will stick with Nintendo and Sony for now.

A little misinterpretation on your side. What he meant is that Lv. 5 will keep developing on more than one platform, but they're also somewhat special since their games are exclusives, instead of "80%-90%" multiplat games.

So they are willing to throw away all they've gained from publishing their own stuff, just because a sony funded game did well? Yeah... no.

White Knight Chronicles -episode 0: Record of Dogma Wars, chapter 1 manga is on WKC's official homepage now

cheers

edit: speculation, but it looks like episode 0 is a true prologue to the game...though...well...it says the game takes place 10,000 years in the future...10,000? man WKC's civilization hasn't really advanced much, it seems lol

going to edit as more info rolls into 2ch...take it how you will.

edit 1:42am - mention of Geonet social networking service tied in with WKC. (actual SNS inside WKC client?)

edit 1:48am - mention of an escort quest...person to be escorted is pretty week but runs on ahead...need to protect him (obviously)

ok...lots of stuff up on various gaming outlets in Japan about the WKC Secret Party

Will post cliffnotes in a bit of the web postings as well as 2ch and some blog comments shortly. For now, it's probably faster, if you want to get the gist of things, to use babelfish.

http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/127/127094/

lol dengeki says 12/25/2009 as release date...supposedly they also had it as dev'd/published by Square Enix earlier in the evening.

Says 720p on the box so not fullHD

Online mode:
Geonet Social Network System
Screenshot function called Crystal Shot
There appears to be an ignore list function
The Knight Robert escort quest is a lvl 41 quest (characters were level 50) but is rather challenging.
The draw distance in online mode is noticeably lower than in offline mode, but not bothersome
Online quests appear to have quite a bitof volume. Robert escort quest is estimated at 45min. Final boss is Gigas + trash mobs
Load time is pretty fast, or atleast, the poster thinks it's pretty fast
1 avatar per data (details very vague)
No voice chat. Dev staff wants to be able to incorporate it in the future but no specific plans
Skills are distributed to weapons and magic. Depending on skill distribution, combo (hitcount?) increases, status increases and what not can be observed.
Equipment has durability...need to repair occaisionally
Even warriors learn some level of healing so not necessary to force one person to a healer role
No transformation in online mode
Quests can be done w/o 4 people. Leader accepts quest, others see that and participate
Quest rewards are distributed similarly to monster hunter

Other comments:
No lag/slowdown even with a large number of enemies
As in the '06 PV, select area -> start quest
Even trash mobs can transform. Depending on enemy, some may transform rather frequently
White knight can equip a sword and shield. There were spaces for 2 other types of unknown equipment.
Shield block can be done at lvl1. Can only block when the option is available? Block time is long.
Equipment changes in movies as well
Additional quests will be distributed via PSN

Announced today at a pre-launch event in Tokyo, the built-in SNS is formally known as "GeoNet." This area of the game has all the features you'd expect of an SNS, including friend lists, a journal with comment functionality, and messaging. The service also keeps track of who's reading your content, so you can see if your journal is popular.

This is just one feature of what should be a feature-rich RPG. Developer Level-5 is even giving the game content off the Blu-ray disc! Today, the White Knight site was updated with a web comic, White Knight Chronicles: Episode 0 Dogma Wars (this is an English translation of the Japanese name, Shirokishi Monogatari: Epsiode 0 Dogma Senki). This comic tells the story of a battle that took place 10,000 years prior to the game. You can see the Japanese version for yourself at the White Knight official site under the "Special" section.

avatar char...
we've known this for a while, but the avatar creation system appears to be pretty damn good. couple of posters over on 2ch are saying it's better than Oblivion's, for reference sake.

i expect to see a lot of lolibait characters in the JPN online world
