To be fair, Japanese support needs to be absolutely spectacular to make up for terrible Western support and even more for the insulting 1st party. Which seems unlikely. Also, I could see that there actually might be no announcements to could be significant to us. Something with big popularity in the West surely would have been at E3. I guess something like Fatal Frame or Tales of is the best thing that might be revealed, as it's too Japan-centric for E3 but will eventually come out here too. But then, it might also just be games like these with the green haired pop singer... or some visual novels with lolis and shit.
Old stuff is still running on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. That's a different architecture, probably completely independent from Nintendo Network.
Like the original Xbox Live was completely different from the Xbox Live that launched on the 360 and they ultimately shut down the old Xbox Live in 2010 or so.
I am as impatient as anyone, and if I'm wrong I'll flay myself in this thread repeatedly, but Iwata's statements and simple unassailable logic tells me there is no way in hell Japanese support is 4 games, with the only new game announced in the last year an arcade port. I just do not believe that is possible.
This. I'm pretty negative in general, but it seems absolutely insane to assume that this is the entire Japanese support. If that was the case they might as well call it a day.
I'm of the same opinion. The japanese conference should reveal more launch titles.
Every Wii U game announced before the end of the year is not going to be released before the end of the year.
If you're arguing about Japanese support at launch, there will not be a ton of megaton barn burners. If you're talking about Japanese support in the pipeline, there will (gonna cover my ass here and say probably) be surprises in development.
If I'm reading this correctly, that measn that in your knowledge/opinion Wii U will launch with just those 4 Japanese games that's horrible also compared to the Wii's launch (except maybe for DQX IF it will be released at launch).
Especially if you are talking about the launch window, when you speak about "end of the year", due to the fact that not knowing about post-March 13 titles is the Nintendo way of managing the launch of the system and it's not strictly related to the existence-non existence of the games themselves.
We all know it's Kingdom Hearts 3 Alberto, don't worry.
I don't think that is what he was saying at all.
It's confusing but I didn't think of the "nintendo network" hence the use of "a nintendo network".
But if you're correct, the game would still be up because it's working with the nintendo wifi connection and not anything by tomy or eighting.
I fully expect this to be a Wii U exclusive.
So:
Every Wii U game announced before the end of the year is not going to be released before the end of the year.
I've read it as no of the possible game announced will hit the market within the end of the year.
Is mine poor English problem?
maybe yes! HAHA ;p
What was miyamotos strange tweet?
miyamoto tweet.... wait what?
I believe what he was saying is not every Wii U game announced this year will release this year. He wasn't saying that about every single game.
Let me add this- while it hasn't been confirmed, a Gamestop Italy list had Orochi 3,PES13. and a new DECA sports game listed. That list has proven accurate so far, with F1 Allstars basically confirmed in this forum.
4) Iwata already lied in other occasions, as before E3 about western developed 3DS games incoming
We all know it's Kingdom Hearts 3 Alberto, don't worry.
What are you two talking about?
What tweet? What did he say?
I would like to clarify my position about this topic.
Imho considering Wii U specs more similar to PS3 ones, that should allow multiplatform developments; considering Wii's success (also with its troubles) that testify that you should not underestimate Nintendo especially in Japan (where MS is zero), considering the positioning that the Wii U could receive being a brand new console receiving Dragon Quest main chapter at launch or near, considering the better-then-ever relationships between Nintendo and some software houses (such as Tecmo-Koei, Level5 but also Capcom and Square Enix considering MH and DQ recent iterations), considering that Japanese softco could benefit from an HW not-too-stressed in terms of technology, considering Iwata's tweets and Japanese lack of info about almost everything about Wii U....
I'd expect some sort of japanese support, maybe even better than the western one.
I did a list of possible (imho) games (possible in terms of commercial importance, brand awarness, chances for softco to take advantage of, demographic focus and so on) because I think that that list could happen.
That said, there are a lot of problems or doubts up to now, imho:
1) we still don't know (due to Iwata's tweet) if there will be a proper pre-TGS conference in Japan to present Wii U and its actual launch-window library
2) we know that a lot of Japanese (but western-oriented) PS360 multiplatform titles are not coming to the Wii U (Final Fantasy XIII 3, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero, Resident Evil 6, Lord of Shadows 2 and so on)
3) we didn't hear rumors or hints from nobody (except Capcom that in any case hinted at just ONE game, that could possibly be an HD port of an old game)
4) Iwata already lied in other occasions, as before E3 about western developed 3DS games incoming
5) Wii's troubles in selling properly third party games (I know that there were many reasons for this, but the problem existed in any case)
And ShockingAlberto post is just confirming my phears:
If I'm reading this correctly, that measn that in your knowledge/opinion Wii U will launch with just those 4 Japanese games that's horrible also compared to the Wii's launch (except maybe for DQX IF it will be released at launch).

What's your reasoning on that? I know we got three KH games on DS/3DS, but that doesn't mean much. After all, we got CoM on GBA, but then no KHII on Gamecube/Wii.
I actually think you're crazy
Well, like it or not, Pachter is a very, very well respected source, even if people on GAF laugh at him constantly. There's a reason he's in the position of power he's in. So there's that. Secondly, I have also played the WiiU, and his points are accurate. The Wii Pad feels kinda like a toy (not that it's a bad thing) and it should be multitouch capable. People expect that at this point, especially in an age of iPhone.
I've read the article now, and he was slamming them for sure. However, he was slamming them for completely real, legitimate reasons. He was slamming Nintendo for being Nintendo, and that's fair. Nintendo's E3 conference was disappointing. Saying "...most reveals fell flat. In fairness, top-tier announcements like New Super Mario Bros. U and a Shigeru Miyamoto–introduced Pikmin 3 were nice surprises. Regardless, when Team EGM left the Nokia Theater, the consensus was disappointment." Sounds fair to me. Even if you go back to the E3 press conference thread, people were like "ZOMFG WTF NINTENDO LAND?!!??!" It was a pretty disappointing press conference, and Nintendo hasn't done much to sell the system afterwards. It is harsh, but is in no way shape or form close to an "embittered fanboy blog entry." It reads like someone who was disappointed in the showing, and states that Nintendo still has ground to make up in order to really convince the majority of people that the system is worth buying. I agree with this.

People are so negative about this. Here's the facts, Nintendo owns the Japanese market. There is no way in hell the developers are not going to support the WiiU. If you want to be concerned about Western support, fine. But Japanese support will be there.
Not sure why everyone is so down on NintendLand. Looks like a lot of fun and isn't it from the creator of Animal Crossing? Why would it not be good?
Patcher is in the position he's in now (which is hardly one of respect) because he's an entertaining sound bite for fanboys. He gets articles hits with his ridiculous buffoonery.
I don't think it is quite that simple- much of Nintendo's success with 3rd parties has been on their portables. The Wii was not an overwhelming success for most 3rd parties. Still, I agree generally on your point in that there is no way Japanese support is going to be worse than Western support.
Because I think Nintendo shells out the money to make it an exclusive to their system.

Mmmmmm £199. Would definitely jump on it for that price. But yeah, I'm not being optimistic here. This rumour seems pretty legit, but I've been hurt before. Nintendo's not dumb though, they saw how muddled the 3DS launch was.
Instant buy for me at £199 but we all know no matter how much it is in America it's going to be at least £250 in the UK

I think we've been well over that and most of us have arrived at a similar conclusion once the dust settled. Everyone was down on NintendoLand was simply because of its E3 stage reveal.
I find the comments about japanese publishers not supporting Wii U bizarre.
If japanese devs can support the Xbox 360 which is actually an "unfriendly" brand there, I imagine a more "local" product is guaranteed to get support.
As for Wii, well, that's Wii.
Nintendoland was fun to play from what time I have spent with it.
I expect that the jury is already out for most people, though.
If JP devs/publishers didn't support 360, they'd have gone broke in a second (obviously exaggerated) since the 360 rule(s/d) North America basically. They just couldn't not do it.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Versus XIII re-emerged as a Wii U/PS3 title with extra content on the Wii U version?
Well, that's not going to happen.
Butterfly effect and all that Jazz.
So they don't support 360, do they support Wii more? Do they support PS3 more? Does PS3 get exclusives? So yes obviously exaggerated but it's really hard to say what would have happened. And it would vary between developers. I'm sure SE for example would have been fine if FFXIII remained exclusive. Likewise, if RE5 had been exclusive. I think the smaller ones though fit more into your example of having serious financial issues.
Didn't a video leak of a FF15 trailer just before or after E3 with 'available for PS3 and Wii U' at the end and people speculating that they had changed Vs 13 into FF 15 ?.
I take it FF13 didn't sell at all well on the 360.
NintendoLand is meant to introduce people to Nintendo games they might not have played before in a friendly way, so obviously it won't appeal to every current Nintendo fan. No doubt it's going to be fun though.

According to you only. The game is for the masses as much as any Mario Kart, or NSMB is. In some ways closer to Smash Brothers. For novice and enthusiast. Just them adding Metroid, Game & Watch, F-Zero, and Takamaru is clear indication of them appealing to the old enthusiast Nintendo gamer.
How's that a good thing? Guy has literally copied the same game over ten years 1:1 several times and was completely unable to make something out of the concepts potential. (Well, admittedly the games were slightly different each time, since content was actually removed every game...) Nintendoland looks equally lazy and yet it's supposed to satisfy fans that were looking for full-fledged Nintendo games on their new console. I hope it really isn't a pack-in, just so there's a chance that it doesn't meet sales expectations. Nintendo has apparently forgotten the lesson they've learned in their arrogant-mode Wii Music year and need to come back to reality.
Call me an optimist, but I highly doubt it will be 2014 before we see any of Nintendo's major franchises on the system. The rumor is that Retro has been making whatever they've been making since even before DKC-R's development was completed. While that could certainly be bullshit, I find it hard to believe that they didn't have something else on the back burner during that time. There's no way it would take all of Retro 2+ years to make DKC-R, when it took them less time than that to design Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, a pretty massive game that had to require a lot more resources and careful crafting than DKC-R.
Of course, this is all for not if Retro is working on a new IP, which I doubt. But would be more than happy if they were. But I'd still prefer a Metroid Prime-ish game from them, it being my favorite gaming franchise and all...
You really need to go back and look at the Wii launch.
It took them 9 months after launch for Metroid, 12 months for 3D Mario, 16 months for Smash Bros, 17 months for Mario Kart and 5 years for Zelda...
Did you really expect them to come on stage in June at E3 and say those 5 games were all launch games because if so you need to get a grip of reality.
Those massive IP's will be being kept for strategic times, i.e. the times where at big trade shows they need something big to take the attention from Sony / MS and their new consoles.
I would take a guess that we will get Mario Kart U in the third quarter of 2013 with another two big first party IP's in Winter 2013 (Smash Bros and Starfox / F Zero).
I wouldn't expect a new 3D Mario, Zelda, Metroid and whatever Retro are working on (if it's a new IP) until mid / late 2014 at the earliest.

It's irrelevant if Nintendoland is fun in the big picture. Wii Sports was also fun, but people would have also shit on that one back at its reveal if it had been in the same vein of this year. Nintendo would have shown up with their new console that got nothing but Red Steel and one-year old Xbox ports from 3rd parties, while bringing nothing but Super Paper Mario, Wii Play and Wii Music from the 1st party front until they close off the presentation with 15 minutes of some dude telling you how ingenious the tennis minigame is. But back then they thankfully still knew how to start a new generation. (Hell, a 20 minute 3DS reveal was more exciting than 2 shoddy WiiU E3s)
Unlike the common belief, Nintendo does more than Mario/Zelda/Metroid. What I got from them within the first Wii year was not only these ,,big'' three, but also Excite Truck, Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars 2, proper Warioware. A glimpse of Disaster. Hence I was also eager to try out something like Wii Sports.
All we know about the WiiU is that games of interest to Nintendofans (like me) until next E3 are Pikmin and 2D Mario, which some might be already fed up with (rightfully so). And while Nintendo didn't have everything ready in this ridiculous launch window term for the Wii, we at least knew for certain what we can expect from the console. That's not possible for the WiiU, from what I gathered all that is argued goes practically ,,We know the studios will eventually make something!! I bet the next Direct will have the games, IM SURE!!'' Fuck that, seriously.
Not sure about the 3rd parties, but right now they look terrible for the WiiU and I even remember those slightly better for the Wii. In the timeframe after the final E3 we also already got teasers for No More Heroes etc (could be wrong though). Announcements for the WiiU ever since the ,,re-reveal'' were downloadable titles and shovelware from WB.
