Wow EB just really stuck it to the PSP

What, you can't steal something they don't OWN, Hell I managed a a Baseball card store and a Mother came in with this MASSIVE old collection, I said, it would be more convient for her if our shop did a housecall, I bought the collection for like $500 bucks, I sold MANY single cards for that...:)

You're stealing business from the owner. Since EBgames runs the store and has thus paid for the space to sell their goods they have a legal right to protect. A third party like yourself ignoring all of the rules and regulations in place would find himself in trouble real quick.

To give an example I'll draw upon my own personal experience. I was at a local game store one day and a customer came by offering to trade in a system and a few games. I overheard the owner give the value of the stuff and thought I'd try to buy it off of him. I gave him a better offer and he was "No it's alright" and continued looking. Next thing I knew the owner was on me and if it wasn't for the fact that I've done business there for a long time he would have had the cops on me.

Oh and you actually want to work there and attempt that bullshit? You'd be fired/arrested faster than the speed of sound.

My first post was kind of a joke hoping you weren't serious but dude...This is EB...They think new is used and used is only worth $2 off. Do you honestly think some asshat manager wouldn't call the police if you tried to hinder a transaction? I got kicked out of an EB (or was it GameStop?) just for telling a couple guys that the PSP won't actually play DVDs regardless of what the employee was saying. You may not get arrested but you will be escorted out.

I'm guessing this baseball card store didn't have security cameras like Gamestop does. :lol

Ethelred, I know mana knight has some funny quotes and all but it's just downright mean to stalk him searching his post history and bringing it here so that everybody laughs.

It's already done but reconsider what you did and the consequences it can have on other people. Having like 40 guys laughing at him sure isn't fun to him.

If it wasn't for Nintendo we probally wouldn't even HAVE a video game industry thanks to how they revivied the crashed market in the 80's. And if we did have one it probally wouldn't be half as advanced as ours is today with Out Nintendo's inovate drive towards the future.

Having lived through the crash as a gamer, I disagree. If not Nintendo, somebody else qould have come along. Kudos to them for taking the chance first (although they were really the only ones in position to do so), but there was still a game market to be tapped.

And the advanced comment is ludicrous. They was plenty of innovation before Nintendo, and plenty besides Nintendo. And their restrictions of software for the first 5 years of the NES's life did *not* help gaming to be advanced.

The baseball card store was a HS gig, IF I were representing the store, she would have been even more screwed because it was this(rip off) owners policy to ask a seller, what do you want for whatever, and this lady would have sold the whole thing for like $100, as it was, I had to stop looking thru the cards, as every other card was a Mantle, Ted williams, Sandy Kofax etc, and I was starting to sweat, also this OWNER would lie, I never lied, i just simply said the best I could do is $500 and that kids today prefered players like Griffy or Jeter...(because they can't afford the $$$$:) )

I've read many threads in my day. But I can't think of many that have made me laugh as much and as hard as this one.

Thank you, GAF. <3

Yah but how long would it have taken before someone else worked up the guts to enter a market that was for all intents and purposes dead? Even when someone else eventaully did what we would have by today would be completely unreconizable with out Nintendo's presence.

And you're forgetting all the advancements Nintendo brought about in the Snes years to the present. They are the one's most willing to go out a limb and try stuff so crazy everyone thinks it's nuts. Sometimes it fails like the Virtual boy... but when they get it right they revolutionize things.

After all everyone thought they had lost their marbels when they announced the DS and look how wrong we where.

They might not be the only inovateve force in the market but they sure as heck seem to be able to pull it off better then the rest more often then not.

He could have called the cops to take you out of the store, but they wouldn't arrest you. What you did wasn't illegal, and if the store thinks it was, he's a moron.

Same with working at the store and doing this. Would you get fired? Yes. Would they have a civil case? Yes. But illegal, as in getting arrested? No. There's a difference between a crime and a tort.

Well, obviously not good enough. Sony has a lot of money, so why don't they throw more into the PSP? I admit, I don't own a PSP, but as a gamer I'm annoyed by the recent commercials for PSP that show the gaming function to be secondary (or even tertiary) to video and MP3 playback. Those commercials make me believe that the machine is dead as a gaming device.
I'll explain why. The majority of Sony's internal teams, developers they own, or independent 3rd party developers who develop exclusively for Sony, cannot develop more than one game at a time (due to size). If they were to tell half their developers to develop PSP games instead, that would cut Sony's first party games on consoles in half. Also, the console business still is the most important to Sony; therefore, console normally gets priority. But what Sony seems to be doing with PSP is creating brand new teams for PSP development. For an example, former members of NDI are at Ready At Dawn while former members of Insomniac are at High Impact Productions. The new studios are making games for PSP, while NDI and Insomniac can continue to make games for PS2/PS3. They are expanding for PSP development, but without a doubt, it will take time to become as large as their console development.

It's not fake. Yes, EB ads look that shitty. No, you shouldn't take it personally. They do this stuff all the time with every system. They probably don't have many used PSPs, DS Phats, and GBA SPs in inventory after the holidays and want to build up stock again. It's pretty standard procedure. The only reason it's toward the DS Lite is that if you want to build up a stock of used stuff, it's better to offer something that's a hot ticket. All system wars BS aside, DS Lites are in far shorter supply than PSPs at the moment, and thus are more enticing to potential traders.

Same can be said about Sony and how they expanded the market to a wider adult audience. Heck, Sega was taking a similar route, but they stumbled badly after the initial success of the Genesis.

So yes, someone else would've come along, but it's hardly a given that they would have put forth a product as successful as the NES. It would be like claiming that the PS1 was inevitable and could have been made by Microsoft, Sega or someone else. Or suggesting that Bird and Magic didn't matter to the NBA's success because Jordan came afterwards.

Well now that EB has confirmed it I guess I can pack it away with the rest of the old systems.

PSP is teh doooomed!!1

Hey does that mean the few games they have left in store will be going half price?

Well in all fairness it is well documented that chicks are the source of all cooties. Maybe he hasn't been vaccinated yet? Kinda surprising though...Most guys get vaccinated at about 11 or 12.

Geez, Mana Knight needs to be more subtle. That ad is ripe for spin. I'll illustrate....

Code:
Wow, EB must have a hard time moveing DSLs to offer that kind of trade in deal.

It's a pausible conclusion that defies reality.

In all seriousness though, how is that deal suppossed to work with the way DSLs can't be kept in stock, looks more like a trojan horse to get people in the stores with their PSPs.

Give the ill-fated JVC mascot a prize. Should also help them move the pink ones. Dang is it a sad sight when there's only pink ones left.

Well I'd hope not. If you did, I'd have to dub you some kind of superhero or something. Because that is like, super fanboyism...

I'd call you Super Fanboy. You'd have gotten your powers when Nintendo killed the PSP, and you're out for revenge. Like Batman, or something.

Damn, I need to call DC Comics with this shit.

I'm kidding. :)
