Roughly how much do you make per collection from the Media King properties if they're fully upgraded? There's a huge jump in cost from the previous King to this guy, trying to decide if it's worth the time and effort. I bought his most expensive property already but even updating it using Miracle is crazy expensive. The bar barely fills.

Dont use miricle. Just go slower with a cheaper character. It will save you a bunch of money.

Every property upgraded you make roughly 1.5B every cycle (5 minutes?) Media King properties are roughly half of it.

Also do the slot car racing minigame and you will get a free Media King property.

So... i just beat this game. First Yakuza game i've ever beat actually... and wow. For some reason i was always under the impression that Yakuza was somewhat similar to Shenmue? I backed the Shenmue 3 project, figured this might give me a taste of what to expect. Have to admit that this is my third attempt at trying to get into the series... first tried on PS2, dropped it within the first 30 mins. Then i remember buying Yakuza 4 or 5 on PS3 and it just did not click with me again, dropped it after 1.5 hours. This time, I was so god damn determined to beat this game -- all the crazy ass gifs i've seen posted and the fervent community Yakuza has garnered, surely i was missing out on something.

Missing out i was! The first 1-2 hours i have to admit were somewhat brutal... i found the controls rather unresponsive and moving the character around was a challenge (still feel that way). It was also rough to experience the invisible walls in the game when it came to navigating the cities, particularly the alley ways... getting in and out of little Asia, lol, what a god damn challenge that was and continues to be. However, i pressed on, focused on the other aspects the game has to offer. Fortunately, after 2-3 hours of play, it clicked and it felt like i had unearthed the biggest diamond in the rough.

The amount of content packed into this game is absolutely bat shit crazy... i thoroughly enjoyed all the mini games, laughed my ass off at a lot of the sidequest and the god damn story... that ending and FEELS. I really enjoyed how despite being an open world game, the story progressed about as linearly as it could... it made for a very cohesive experience, with unexpected turns that was quite honestly executed very well. I know Naughty Dog coined the term liner wide, but to me this game seems much more representative of what i take that to mean.

Officially on board the Yakuza hype train... so glad i stuck with it.

^ nice post.

I think the Yakuza series generally has a bit of a hard time generating interest, because first impressions generally aren't great. People DO tend to find it somewhat clunky, old fashioned (archaic?), yet its kind of opposite to what fans think, because for fans every game is improved upon the last, so perhaps newcomers think it might not be for them?

It's also difficult for any preview or let's play to convey the emotional resonance of any Yakuza title quickly, especially in an era where people just watch the bits they're interested in. The story arcs also take time to fully experience, even in 0 where they dive straight into the story, it still takes a while for the shit to hit the fan so to speak.

Oh, I think this video conveyed the emotional resonance and depth of the story quite well. Shit, it's the straw that broke the camel's back in convincing me to buy it, as it were.

I guessed it was the Nugget video and I was right!

I remember all the insta-buy posts on GAF when that was posted.

quick question: I started the chapter 6, and I already bought 1 business and have 2 in total. I already collected my money for the first time.
however, it says I can';t collect until a fix a problem. I went to the business and there is no option to resolve the issue. How do you take care of that? thanks

Go to the region where the problem is located, then check your mini-map/map on the pause menu. There should be a small circle or something in that business area where you need to go and beat the shit out of some goons who will be standing around for you to get close.

I did that, and saw no small circle, so I guess it was too early, maybe I should wait more so that pops up

My god every time I see a new heat explosion finisher I am just like what the fuck.

What the fuck Kiryu? I know he had health bar left but I still don't think he was going to get up.

It really is a great balance for how over the top goofy the side missions are and intense the main missions are though.

edit: annnndd just finished chapter 6. Annnndd I continue to be surprised more people aren't talking about this game.

Finished Chapter 14.
Tachibana :(
. It's incredible how the game is able to create very compelling characters for each one of the stories

Probably the scene that hit me the hardest (no pun intended) in any game ever.
Didn't believe Nagoshi would go there, (hit a dude in the face with a hammer), but he did. And I had so many feels in that fight with Kuze, its amazing how every scene gets you amped up for a battle.

Game initially made me think it was a rehash of the first Yakuza, but the more I played the better it got!

Oh yea, that dancing game really ticked me off. Took me a solid hour or so to finally get the rhythm. The first battle is the worst, I don't know why. The others were a lot easier for me.

Btw, am I doing it wrong? I'm on chapter two, all quests finished up to this point and over 8 billion yen...

I expected Tachibana at least met with Makoto once. Dammit Nagoshi :(
Tho, the next battle with Kuze was even more amazing due everything that happened right there u,u

Ultimately a good choice from me by Nagoshi! I'm sure they debated long and hard about giving the player a somewhat bittersweet ending with Tachibana and Makoto,
but the way it panned out it gave the player more drive to see the story through to the end.
I think some fans were disappointed it didn't happen and it was overly cruel so it could have worked either way.

Climax Battles finally complete 😅, I’ve learnt some extra cheesy moves that should come in handy for the Legend playthrough!

But first, some.. calming gambling mini games.

Just finished the game. Wow.
I think a shed a manly tear at the end with Majima and Makoto :'(

The last sections were epic and I think that for me, it's my GOTY. Even more than Persona 5.

I mean,
I loved it. It was just sad for Makoto and Tachina to struggle so much, and just fell short at the end, but I can see why it happened they it did, and how it was necessary for the story.

Finally revisited this after not playing since February. I left off at Chapter 6 or so. Well, the story was so engaging that I ended up finishing it, which resulted in about 15 hours of gameplay over the last two days.

What an incredible game. Its story and characters make you feel all kinds of ways. Even got misty eyed a couple of times.

Really looking forward to Kiwami. I'm hoping the rest get the same treatment, otherwise I'm going to have to boot up some old consoles.

So I've been playing the game in a pretty straightforward manner, primarily hitting up story missions and partaking in side content only if I run right the fuck into it on my way to the next objective. Then something happened around chapter 7, after being absoloutly drained by how good chapter 6 was, I was introduced to Majima's Club management stuff, then about ten hours or so passed, between hitting up the minigame (I've got 2 bosses remaining) and "investing in myself", and taking it to Mr. Shakedown, I've almost maxed out upgrades. Is Kiryu's realestate stuff going to be more time intensive than the Caberet Club? I'm going to try and finish everything before moving on, and then when I get back to Kiryu, doing all of that stuff in one go. There's no minigame there, so I don't see myself getting stuck in timesinks like the makeover screen, developing the most optimal-statistically-yet-aesthetically-appealing hostess.

I feel like the game world has been prodding at me to just kinda stew in it for a while now, ajd it's starting to have effect.

Also, yo that dancing minigame is actually pretty fucking tough.

I didn't really bother after a while with Kiryu's real estate stuff, I think its only if you want the money to go and buy the really expensive abilities.

The mini game kept upping the cost of buying properties (ie properties kept getting more and more expensive), so I didn't feel like I was making all that much if I was investing it back into more properties.

I found myself doing a decent bit of investing with Goro, I'll just see how intensive it is wirh Kiryu, who I haven't seen in like 15 hours, christ.

I've got a 1 Billion yen Mr. Shakedown wandering around with about 5 health bars, an inventory full of Staminan XX's isn't doing it like it used too, anywhere I can buy more potent shit.

Yo, fuck, theres an an unlockable
fourth style!?
at the end of the buisness path, that's rad!

I think I want one of those Yakuza Supporter tags as well.

Just under the image please. Even better if you can cover the yellow ads in the lower left corner with a tiny cutout of Ai:

So basically like this, but actually good and the Yakuza tag under it.

I found myself invested :)P) on the real estate mechanic. I actually beat the game on Saturday and used all Sunday to progress as much as I could; I'm actually with the Media King now and like 3 billion of yens. However, I found that you really require to buy/unlock the Business perks in the Shrine, in order to take full advantage of the mini-game. Otherwise, I don't think you can get much returns from it.

Edit. Also Marina is super cute :3

Real-estate is not really a good/fast way to get money in the game. If you got about 3bn at that point you should try the Mr. Shakedown farming technique with the shrine perk that multiplies the money he holds plus the avarice shirt.

The basic gist of it is you let him steal your money then find him again and beat it out of him with 80% interest. You can do this until you hit the game cap of 10tn yen in about an hour.

I guess Kiryu's 'find Shakedown in the park more frequently' CP perk would help with this, looking for Shakedown as Majima could be a bit time consuming. I still want to get through the buisness path for the rewards and unlocks anyway, I can probably blast through that stuff quicker by throwing more money at it. Then actually make my revenue for abilities off Shakedown.

Yeah I got all the business perks and it was still too slow for my liking. I'd get a payout, and spend most of it on another property, and it was just a rinse repeat thing. I'd do more if I had the time, but I was enjoying the story too much to keep going.

There is an accessory you get from a sidequest that reveals the locations of enemies on the map. You can farm money much easier than real-estate.

Random question. The internet at my home died and I was bored and remembered I have an unopened copy of Yakuza 0. Will I be missing anything significant or run into something not great if I play it unpatched?

You won't get free DLC(its just small usable items) and you'll have a big ass SEGA logo if you record any thing using the record function of the ps4.

Other than that, you're good. You can get the DLC items later on too when your internet gets fixed.

So nothing major. Doesn't affect the actual game almost at all.

The game is already two years old at this point, so it's fairly polished.

There are two issues that were introduced with the localisation and have since been patched though.

1. The game will always crash when you attempt to play a specific game in the casino, can't remember which one it was.

2. One minor character who only speaks chinese had a completly different look and voice in the chinese localisation (They based him on some famous chinese actor.) The western localisation uses his original design and voice from the japanese version, but at some point he suddenly switches to his voice from the chinese version.

The second one happens very late into the game, so unless you're out of internet for life, you should have it patched by then.

And some free DLC item packs and bonus outfits came with a bunch of patches. But the outfits are only usable in post-game mode and I wouldn't grab the extra items right away, so it's not a big deal if you have to wait a bit.

Yeah, grabbed that, it's super handy. Shakedown is fucking tough with Kiryu though, maybe it's just that I have fewer upgrades on him, but I don't have the free heat moves I had with Majima, going into beast mode seems like suicide compared to using Slugger (specifically on Shakedown).

Real estate is going quicker than Caberet, but it's way more passive, and I won't be profiting until I'm done with the entire thing. Guess I'll just have to commit to the grind? once I'm done there it's smooth sailing. The chapters actually go pretty quickly when you focus purely on those missions.

What's up with all this extra stuff on the main menu? I keep getting notified of Climax Battle items. I'm waiting until I'm done with with the story to check it out.

Man, the amount of love and drama a simple Mini-Cars Racing Colosseum can generate is amazing lol Never expected to lost so many hours there completing all the substories

Also, I finally finished the Real Estate storyline, and the ending is kinda disappointing (or at least it felt like that after putting 10hrs into it). I love the final reward and the fight with the 5 Billionaires were fun, but the last one was kinda underwhelming.

The great thing about the mini car racing is that they expand upon those side stories in Kiwami and 6. Its a really nice little touch that solidifies the side stories as some of the best in gaming in my opinion, the pay off in 6 is especially awesome :)
