Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward Demo Impressions Thread

Well, easy mode will provide with some fun dialog between characters, but completing hard mode is
also a necessity for getting the gold files, getting the Platinum Trophy in the Vita version, and to unlock something at the end :3

Excellent, Now I'm tempted to play once on Easy, then again on Hard! Oh man... That'll take FOREVER! -_-

Screenshots! Nothing to look at graphically, but whatever. More importantly, the touch screen controls are perfect for point-and-click adventures like this. My only gripe is that writing and drawing memos is bit sloppy on the Vita. It's one of those situations where a stylus on resistive touch screen is better than fingers on a capacitive touch screen. Having a capacitive stylus would help alot.

Yeah I can agree.

Well I'm glad there's a demo out now so that my want for this game can be at least temporarily satiated since I decided to cancel my preorder yesterday after evaluating my purchases for the month. There are just so many other great games releasing this month and I have to admit that I'm still pretty irritated about no preorder watch for Canada for the second time in a row.

It might not be the best place for this, but since I know at least one person from Aksys is monitoring this thread, I'd just like to say that it really sucks that the preorder promotion was US only. It just makes me feel less important to you as a customer and really doesn't push me to be loyal to you when it comes to months like this when there are more games I want than I have cash to spend. Anyway, food for thought for next time since I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

+1. I wanted the bracelet thing, it would have been incentive for me to order and buy at launch. Now I'm just gonna pick it up later, but I also am trying to limit my purchases this month anyways though.

Absolutely loved the demo. One part did bug me though:

When I phoned the answering machine in room 3, the message told me to look at the top left screen of the monitor thing. It went by fairly quickly, so I totally missed the number that was shown. Anyone know what that code was used for? The escape puzzle apparently doesn't even require that code.

It was a number you had to dial in order to get the thing that I think leatherhat is looking for.

I just beat the demo and it was everything I expected it to be, which is awesome. It feels just like a successor to 999 should. The puzzles flowed into one another and I was never stuck for more than a couple of minutes.

Honestly, the only complaint I have is the slight input lag for the controls, but I got over it in a short period of time and adapted to it. The game looks and sounds great as well, and a bunch of the characters look really interesting too. Overall I really liked it and I'm looking forward to the full game.

Fantastic demo! I really loved the puzzle room. The sad thing was that the game practically forced me to receive hints, but I didn't want to! I'll be playing Hard when the game comes out! (In every sense!)

One thing: in the Secret Files unlocked with the pass, I found something that seems to be a typo. My mother language isn't english, so I may be wrong:

It's about the Sigma Cat problem file. Sadly, I closed the game, but the sentence was like that: an experience he had a child. Maybe it was as a child?
Please, forgive me if I'm wrong! :)

Aw yeah. Hard mode, here I come!

On another note,
Alice strikes me as pretty suspicious...I can't wait to learn more about her and how she knows Clover. After first impressions, Sigma, Phi, and the Man in Armor are my favorite characters so far.

Exactly. If you watch the anime trailer
Clover says that she met Alice one year ago in the Nevada desert

*Edit* Nevermind, I just rewatched the True Ending. I completely forgot
that Clover was the one driving the vehicle at the end. Makes sense now.
Been a while since I played it, was a bit fuzzy!

I haven't read up on it, but why didn't they have an early 3DS demo for the game? I have mine preordered for 3DS with the bundle though.

The demo was puuuurfect. I feel like an idiot though because
I got the secret file password before I got the escape code or whatever. I had no clue what the flipped numbers/symbols meant and needed Sigma to spell it out for me.

Second video with escape gameplay is up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiQXtvbd94I
I chopped it up and it skips a bunch throughout my experience, and is 15 mins long.

One of my favorite things about VLR is that it has
a database with all kinds of fun and interesting entries relating to both VLR and 999 :3

I also happen to love databases in video games, i.e. Xenosaga, haha

Me too! I always am sure to read through everything so I can get as much of of the characters and world as possible, EU included :)
I really like the was it's implemented in this game, and it's convenient to get to at all times too, it seems!

You'll have to make sure to secure all the
gold files from all the escape rooms to complete your database and access the more juicier entries ;)

I was really glad you included that
mechanic in this demo because I would've probably passed over it until I stumbled upon it in-game. Are all the entries from the "Silver Files" included in what you find when you find the entries from the"Gold Files", or are they different?

Usually anything that goes in the "SECRET" category will be from gold files, for the most part :) I believe the Silver files have less juicier entries.

Haven't spent much time with it yet, but two things:
1) Writing on the memo is really meant for the stylus. It isn't keeping up with my finger writing characters on the touch screen at all. Also, yeah... menus have some lag associated with them.
2) There is no way to speed up text-scrolling, is there...

Oh, so in the full game, you can totally just swap it from hard to easy if you really wanted to? Can you do this mid-puzzle? Nevermind, read the help section tips on that.

Perhaps I shouldn't have picked the Escape section first, haha. And I'd also like to mention that I'm spending quite a decent amount of time reading the help section. >.>

Edit: Hrm. Perhaps it's better to take screenshots of things you intend to keep in the memo and keep the photo album open to flip through things rather than record it in the memo. Oh, lol... I made a model of one of the chemicals mentioned before. It was pretty great (not really; just big).

Part 1 coming up soon as it's finished uploading. It's of the novel section. I don't usually make videos like these, so hopefully it turned out OK.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, I need this game right NOW!

Demo was okay in general, save for those things I mentioned in my previous post. Nice culture references, though. And I played through the Escape part for the last leg and started taking screenshots of things while having the photo album app open, and it was a much better experience than trying to write on the memo pad.

Another thing, though, is that if you're like me and you generally get nauseous when playing a game with 3D first-person environments, you're going to feel sick sooner or later. I ended up feeling nauseous halfway through and I had to stop playing for a bit and lie down. :|

There's a lot of info in the help section, though. Demo wasn't too hard and it wasn't too easy. The demo hints are just for the demo as the name implies, so the final version on hard mode'll be nice.
