He's from the Game Boy game Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (translated as The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls), which was only released in Japan.

Here's the trophy of the Sablé Prince. He transforms into a snake or a frog, and unloads multiple attacks on any opponent he catches. Keep attacking your foes when they're trapped in his dust cloud.

WHOA! Sakurai actually put Prince Sable in the game. I'm glad that Sakurai is revisiting to a lot of old franchises. It made me happy :)

Apparently he would trap opponents in dust cloud and changed into frog or snake to attack the opponents.

Seeing some of the stuff out of nowhere that we have, I really wonder how much depth there is to the representation in this game (mainly the trophies and other stuff beyond the playable roster). If we have Rayman, Prince Sable, Dillon, Takamaru, Fat Mac, etc etc etc, who knows how much stuff we might get.

That would be much better treatment that Mike Jones and Star Tropic would ever got from Sakurai. Only one time that they actually got referenced in Smash is Chronicle which is basically a list of games and release dates.

Damn, I'm not even a huge Mega Man fan but that looks unbelievably faithful to the originals. We need a new Mega Man game in that style now.

EDIT: It'd be nuts if during Adventure Mode as Mega Man, one of the potential midgame bosses was Protoman and we didn't find out until launch and someone tried it.

Don't know what the gold thing is called, but it's a boss from Pikmin 3.

The character after that is Mike Jones (though I haven't seen him in that style before. Is that some old official art for Star Tropics or something?). The one after that is Saki from Sin and Punishment (even though you didn't ask about him ;) ).

I'm so glad Capt. Falcon has been confirmed! He has always been my favorite so I would have been bummed to see him miss this entry, though Mac looks like he could be a contender for new favorite alt.

Has there been an announcement of final charater count? I remember early in development many years ago, they said this game would be smaller in scope than Brawl.

I haven't put Rhythm Heaven, Captain Rainbow and Ice Climbers because they haven't shown anything that are playable in a sense, via Assist trophies, move sets, playable characters, items and stages.

We only saw a trophy from Captain Rainbow, and smash enemies from Ice Climbers and Rhythm Heaven.

I should be clarifying what the list is for.

Do you have a source for the smaller scope quote? It will surely have more characters than Brawl. 10 more at least.

I think that N64 Marth actually looks too detailed for Smash 64. It looks closer to Ocarina of Time or some other better looking game. Compare to Link's model in the original SSB, where his hand was just a triangle.

Weren't the models used in the intro sequences a little higher-poly, though?

For example,
AE6gL.gif

you can see his face and hair textures are a lot closer to those used in Ocarina of Time than SSB64 proper.

I could foresee StreetPass explanation would be shown in Smash 3DS Direct.

Yeah, it is perhaps a bit too detailed for Smash 64.

It is pretty interesting nonetheless.
